Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

We know. We know because we are down here living it. Not up there faking and not up there reporting it.

It was actually clear right then and there that the numbers were no longer reliable, when Trump fired the head of the statistics agency because he didn't like the job market figures, right?

[–] ABetterTomorrow@sh.itjust.works 17 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

Been jobless since June, having a masters doesn’t help. 200+ applications and only 12 declines.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

which field? tech? some people havnt been getting job for 1-3years, masters reduces your job field by alot.

[–] ABetterTomorrow@sh.itjust.works 1 points 14 minutes ago

IT. I don’t see how a masters would reduce your chances…

IT, I’ve been at director level for six years.

[–] Itdidnttrickledown@lemmy.world 1 points 11 minutes ago

I don't need a director. I just need a guy who can hum a few tunes other than vendor jockey.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 24 points 12 hours ago

Not at all surprising.

These assholes sit there and lie through their teeth, constantly, about "Biden's economy". No surprise they'd like about the situation under the donnie dumbfuck regime.

Remember, this will cause the stock market to go up because we're ruled by psychos.

[–] Blibittyblah@futurology.today 29 points 16 hours ago (3 children)

Do not talk about killing them. You’ll be banned.

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 22 points 16 hours ago

Definitely don't acquire any firearms.

[–] P1nkman@lemmy.world 16 points 15 hours ago

We should NOT have another Luigi!

[–] Pratai@piefed.ca 3 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (1 children)

You can barely even disagree with non-voters on most of the main .world communities or you’ll be banned.

[–] Blibittyblah@futurology.today 10 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

I’ve seen you get banned in the same thread as me. 🤜🤛

[–] Pratai@piefed.ca 5 points 14 hours ago

Yeah. .world’s politics community has gone to shit. They’re too afraid to upset .ml so they won’t do what’s necessary to shut down these non-voting trumpets.

No, it will cause it to go up because of the Federal Reserve mandate. The Fed has to weigh inflation against employment. If employment numbers are bad, the Fed cuts rates which makes it:

  1. More cheap for companies to borrow
  2. Less attractive for investors to hold bonds
[–] kalman@dboft.com 1 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago) (1 children)

Maybe in 2010 but I could argue that's now how it works today.

[–] iopq@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

How does it work today?

[–] fullsquare@awful.systems 7 points 13 hours ago (3 children)

no way lol, if anything there's another hike incoming

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct 14 (Reuters) - The Federal Reserve will probably need to increase short-term interest rates further to ‌rein in too-high inflation, San Francisco Federal Reserve President Mary Daly said on Wednesday, but she signaled there is no need to do so at the US central bank's October 27-28 meeting.

[–] iopq@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

So there was a planned hike, but due to the revision there isn't going to be one. So how is that not good news for the stock market? It was bracing for the hike

[–] jacksilver@lemmy.world 5 points 10 hours ago

You can tell the Fed doesn't know what to do given they keep pretending inflation is tied to economic activity and not trade wars and actual wars.

In a normal world the Fed would be calling on the President or Congress to enact policy to curb inflation since its a type of inflation the Fed has no control over, but no one seems to want to call Trump on all the damage he's been doing.

[–] jj4211@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago

Right that it still tilts that direction, but it is true that they will lower rates to try to improve employment if employment looks bad, as a general point of strategy. Currently inflation is so bad that even this bad news doesn't really move the needle in this case.

[–] jaykrown@lemmy.world 7 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

The stock market won't mean much.

[–] SinningStromgald@lemmy.world 4 points 16 hours ago

It means everything to those with money and the temporarily embarrassed millionaires.

[–] pmk@piefed.ca 2 points 15 hours ago

Unless a rate hike is deemed necessary despite a weak job market due to the bond yields... JPow always mentioned the dual mandate, but I wonder which of them is more important right now.

[–] chahn.chris@piefed.social 16 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

If the dems actually get some oversight I wonder if we will find out how revised this economy actually needs to be from the BLS manipulations.

Maybe we’ve been in a heavy recession since the start of this year? Longer?

[–] CheeseNoodle@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago) (1 children)

Not to beat a dead horse but isn't AI a huge chunk of the US economy right now? The same AI that needs to make more money than exists on earth to justify its expenditures? My bet would be longer and the balance sheet looks worse than any of us can imagine.

[–] chahn.chris@piefed.social 1 points 49 minutes ago

It’s possible! I’d love to see the actual data if it even still exists!

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 25 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Weaker than who thought? Uninformed people?

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 20 points 16 hours ago

Weaker than they wanted us to think.

[–] sin_free_for_00_days@sopuli.xyz 4 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I've never understood why they even release those numbers when they do. They always get revised. Always. And with this administration, you can't even trust the revisions.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 4 hours ago

bad job employments are usually very hazardous to incumbent politicians, and the associated party. thats why its always cooking the books.
