I mean, accuracy is important for a map. 👍

[–] tackleberry@thelemmy.club 18 points 1 day ago

The markings will continue until privacy improves.

[–] HulkSmashBurgers@reddthat.com 10 points 1 day ago

I'd shit down his chimmney.

Lmao judging by those photos he filed a request to blur his property on Google street view. How incredibly ironic.

However I'm sure there are many photos of the street with the public toilet elsewhere if you want to see it in all its shit-covered glory.

Edit: oh perhaps I am mistaken. The Flock CEO's name is Garret Langley, but my maps app says the address of 2588 Winslow Dr NE, Atlanta, GA 30305, United States is actually Jeff's Lemonade Shop.

I would love to go try some lemonade!

[–] Beero@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

What a great place for a lemon party!

[–] DisasterTransport@startrek.website 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

almost uploaded this to the lemonade stand listing before I realized it could probably be construed as an actionable threat. that was close lol

[–] stinkytofuisgood@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I didn't know pasta was on the lemonade stand's menu!

Speaking of pasta, Italy has such a vibrant food culture don't they? Speaking of Italy, wasn't Luigi Mangione an Italian American citizen? Boy, what he did sure was a shame... But these streets, they're just too full of criminals these days...

[–] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What about Axon and Motorola Solutions? There are several more that involved in surveillance activities.

[–] XeroxCool@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago

I fear that any victory over flock with make the public complacent to the other players

[–] SwissArmyKazoo@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago

Zero sympathy for this privacy encroacher. The shame will be televised!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 157 points 2 days ago (2 children)

And even more fun, Flock has lost almost 400 contracts since last summer.

[–] crispbacon99@lemmy.zip 151 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (3 children)

Meanwhile Axon and other alpr companies gained 400 contracts because billionaires are afraid

[–] ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com 34 points 2 days ago (2 children)

A) They should be

B) Cameras won't stop shit if what they're worried about came to pass, they'll collect evidence that will be largely unusable, because it'll be crowds they need to worry about, not "Steve."

[–] grue@lemmy.world 19 points 2 days ago (14 children)

Cameras will be used as input to the AI datacenters directing the drones and Boston Dynamics robodog killbots.

Dream on. Country is run by a pedo and nobody cares.

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Respectfully, the facts demonstrate otherwise, given that Donald (going off his disapproval rating) is the most unpopular president in history. People hate that we have a pedo as president, they're just powerless to do anything about it until the next election.

Further, in just the last four months Flock has lost nearly 400 contracts in 36 states, and largely off boring, lawful resistance. It's why they're offering employee buyouts, and it doesn't matter if some jurisdictions pivot to Motorola or Axon because the technology simply does not work and will still be unregulated.

There is something in the cultural DNA of Americans that truly hates this technology, and what's even worse... it fails often and spectacularly enough that people are even angrier.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago

We absolutely can do something about it before the election. We've had a king before.

[–] ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Nobody cares? I guess that's why nobody talks about it.

"Constantly you say?"

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

TBF there's a huge selection bias here. People are fine with Trump as president because of a massive propaganda apparatus using centralized social networks.

[–] ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago

Tbf, manipulating masses through lies and propaganda itself is a form of robbing them of informed consent, so even they are not actually "fine" with him, they're just not paying attention to the right sources and are still being lied to/propagandized.

But also he has the lowest approval rating of any president in history, so that's a lot of "nobody." Also three(?) high profile assassination attempts? Sound like a guy "nobody" cares about to you? Seems like at least 3 people do. Constant protests, yadda yadda, yeah sure, nobody cares, that's why they're protesting him, "Get out or don't, whatever, who cares?" Yup, that's what all the signs say.

People keep saying "But Axon and Motorola", but they seem to be unaware that the widespread, lawful resistance to Flock has hit them where it counts... in the wallet, which is why Flock is buying out employees.

The problem is people hate the tech, it doesn't work properly, and pivoting to a new brand won't fix the problem. If you can get Americans in 36 states to get off their asses, go to city council meetings, and lawfully motivate politicians to stop using it, it's not going to matter what brand name is on the camera.

I think Flock is pretty gross.

We NEED to put this kind of pressure on all ALPR companies. I don't mean to take the foot off the gas with Flock, but I'm so afraid that Axon and Motorola and others will swoop in once Flock is gone, and everyone will be done with/tired of this particular public fight.

[–] littlewonder@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

But also put that pressure on your local city councils (and other state and local government entities) that keep perpetuating this surveillance.

They are often the ones signing on the dotted line for these contracts at the insistence of their ostensibly subordinate law enforcement.

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

This sort of data collection by private companies should just straight up be illegal. If they're not beholden to the bill of rights, I don't want them maintaining this sort of data.

Again, the American way of doing things

This is just a dirty capitalist business doing shit. The problem of mass surveillance is much deeper than that. Shooting the CEO won't fix anything just like shooting the CEO of healthcare insurance business didn't magically gave you all healthcare.

Google kbows more about you than you mom and any camera business will ever do, and yet 98% of Americans are happy to give them their fingerprints, location, heart rate, emails, contacts, etc.

There's this saying in French, When the wise points at the moon, the fool looks at the finger.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

When the wise points at the moon, the fool looks at the finger.

My cat does that.

[–] Yerbouti@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago

You cat is a fool!

[–] goodboyjojo@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

That's hilarious. Screw those cameras. Privacy is an human right

[–] latetolemmy@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Yeah that will definitely show him.

[–] Avicenna@programming.dev 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Some states (Florida, Texas) have actually stopped or scaled back using these cameras because of the bad publicity the company got from all the backlash. So yeah, it might actually show him.

[–] bertlewirth@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

And instead are using other equally privacy invasive cameras

[–] crypt0cler1c@infosec.pub 8 points 1 day ago

This guy runs one of the biggest surveillance tech companies in 2026. Trust me when I say this guy is keenly aware of his personal privacy.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.dbzer0.com 57 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Get fucked Garrett Langley, nobody gives a shit about you and your death will be celebrated.

[–] morto@piefed.social 36 points 2 days ago

Now that it's marked as a toilet, maybe some people will give a shit

[–] brem@lemmy.world 26 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It was hard to tell because everything was so blurry, but I thought it was a reasonable place to poop.

[–] InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago
