And then netflix will cancel it when it takes some time to become popular and instead produce more reality competitions edited to maximize drama at the cost of a coherent understanding of how the competition is going. And even for action shots, it's like they are editing to show off how many angles they are shooting rather than selecting the best shots to show out of all the angles they have.

Your personality is so much an amalgamation of the last 100 long form media you've consumed. Make good choices, an English teacher that actually cared once told me books are important for what they make you think, not what they say. I still reread some of my old series like I'm visiting friends and refreshing core memories.
We choose who we are to a degree, are you a wizard cop that upholds the status quo (including slavery and racism) or a rebel with friends everywhere? Is winter coming or are you coming to the hanging tree?
What ideas and ideals have you internalized intentionally or unintentionally? How do you think the world works or who we're supposed to be been influenced by the movies you've seen, the news you read and watch?

This has already happened. The Walking Dead was a massive phenomenon. It just atrophied due to neglect.

I think, as the gap between people with lots of money and ordinary people grows bigger, things get more extreme. It was complicated to publish something in Gutenberg's time, it was complicated in 19th century, and it is complicated now, but that are very different kinds of complicated. I would guess, that there was an optimal time with least friction, and I think we're past that time.
Of course, I never tried that or researched, maybe the internet gives reach that is so wide that if something gets popular it will be noticed and get funding

This isn't a hot take. It's about as "predictive" as saying eventually there will be another sports star or viral website. The question is when it will happen, not if.
Harry Potter is the one that comes to mind. Also Game of Thrones if you’d like. Both really blew up, have spin offs and staying power. Harry Potter has toys, video games, and amusement parks.

I never downvote if somebody is adding to the conversation, but I suspect people start to act shitty because JK Rowling raises their hackles.
To extend the "that will never work" part, for "Game of Thrones" author George R R Martin once said,

Game of Thrones basically already fits. The main book series might not finish, and the main TV show disappointed people, but the world GRRM built is spawning all sorts of spinoff stories. Who's to say what happens after he eventually dies and loses control over the franchise?

Dungeon Crawler Carl tv series kinda has that potential, but it's being produced by Peacock so probably not.
Image Comics will be sometime soon. Youngblood, Spawn, they're all so amazing, I like them all so much more than marvel characters and I'm a big marvel fan. They tried spawn back in the day but I think they botched the movie pretty hard and the HBO animated series just didn't do the og content justice.
Edit: Also, DRAGONLANCE by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. Can't believe Amazon picked up Wheel of Time instead of Dragonlance. For those of you unfamiliar with the series, it's a high fantasy classic dungeon and dragons story. Some call it "The DnD bible". There's a core 6 books and then 190 additional novels - I remember going into book stores and there being an entire wall of these guys. With such a huge cult following I really can't understand why this hasn't been picked up.
A lot of these replies show how confident people are in being out of touch. Out here acting like nothing good is getting made while only paying attention to the big franchise flicks with big advertising budget lol

To answer the question in the OP: Yeah man, no duh. Things aren't popular forever and something always replaced it. There's dozens of franchiseable IPs out there right now.
I think this post just ignores a lot of things out there.
The book Jurassic Park was released in 1990, and the film released in 1993. Since then we've had a handful of films and other spin-offs, all within the last 50 years.
The book The Hunger Games was released in 2008, and the film released in 2012. Since then we've had a handful of films and I would bet many more to come.
What about the Pokemon media franchise? Originally released in 1996 and is one of the largest franchises with video games, TV shows, movies and everything else.
The Skibidi Toilet Cinematic Universe. 87 movies. Each more popular than the last.
