"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

YouTube’s system for suppressing low-quality AI content mistakenly targeted Kurzgesagt, leaving the channel with its worst-performing upload since 2013.

Youtube has a slop detector and funnels it all to my feed?

I hadn't been on YouTube for a looong time and went to actual YouTube.com and holy shit. Short videos being thrown in your face that have nothing to do with what you searched for...just paid trash from someone who wants you to get mad about their issue.

Youtube is so dead it's incredible. It will have a searchable library like reddit that will remain useful archivally but I can't imagine anyone "discovering" there and not hating it.

To be fair to the AI slop detector, Kurzgesagt is pretty close to slop…

of course in part because AI slop copies their content/style a lot, but imo that's because the content lends itself to that. Cute cartoon to give you pretty colors to look at plus voiceover superficially discussing a topic is right up AI's alley.

not that this is ok of google, and it's yet another in a long series of things that show that youtube does not care about its workforce at all.
