I don't think he knows about second gun, Pip.

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 7 points 1 month ago

Why is the mental image of Pippin shooting Aragorn so fucking funny I'm gonna shit my pants laughing

[–] Danarchy@lemmy.nz 42 points 1 month ago

Ah the old n+1 guns gambit

[–] Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it 37 points 1 month ago (11 children)

This is like the most USA thing i have ever read and- yeah whatever i wonder if this is even real or just a movie trope atp

[–] Gerudo@lemmy.zip 37 points 1 month ago (3 children)

This absolutely is a thing in some gun circles. They will open carry their main weapon, and then ankle holster a small derringer style. And every gun nut will point to stories like this and say SEE IM NOT CRAZY.

[–] ikidd@lemmy.dbzer0.com 25 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You have to admit, he was right.

[–] HCSOThrowaway@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's like carrying a backup fire extinguisher to go with your fire extinguisher.

You'll probably never need one, and while it's not impossible (see: this incident), it's very unlikely that you'll need both.

I'm a one fire extinguisher kind of guy. That makes me far more prepared than 0 but not as insane and impractical as 2.

[–] ikidd@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I mean, you could shoot the fire. Works on hurricanes I hear.

[–] HCSOThrowaway@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Worth a shot!

Thing is if I was this guy I would feel 100% vindicated because of this moment.

I think it would make sense depending on where at in the us you live. If you live in a high crime metropolitan area then I'd say go for it.

If you live in the Styx or in a relatively low crime area its overkill.

On the other hand, sometimes when a criminal sees you have a gun they just shoot you immediately that has happened in my city several times, someone pulls a gun on them but holds it like a limp dick because they are scared and the thing they don't realize is the person robbing them at gun point likely uses that gun every day...

Its nuanced and I really don't know the solution to it at all because if you take them away from everyone those people that use them every day and rob people at gun point will still have them and if you're counting on the police to help you HA good luck. If they even show up you'll be lucky that they don't just shoot everyone.

Especially when responding to a "shots fired" call.

[–] zener_diode@feddit.org 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

If you live in the Styx

The Styx as in ... the mythical river that runs through the underworld? Yeah, I can see that being a low crime area...

(Sorry, european here, if you meant someplace in the US, I've never heard of it)

[–] Zoot@reddthat.com 3 points 1 month ago

Out in the sticks (or styx i suppose) just means outin the middle of nowhere, generally a mile between neighbors. Small town stuff

[–] tmyakal@infosec.pub 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I used to be buddies with a retired NYPD patrolman. He said it was overwhelmingly common to have your service piece in your hip-holster and an unregistered "drop gun" in an ankle-holster. The idea being, if you need to shoot someone, you can cover your ass by dropping the spare on the body and saying they brandished it at you.

He wasn't the type to exaggerate or make shit up, so I tend to believe him on this. Just further proof, though: ACAB.

It's like i always say, the only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with two guns; that's why police always carry a rifle in the car.

[–] First_Thunder@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

But what if bad guy has two guns

[–] Tikiporch@lemmy.world 19 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Super secret third gun, obviously.

[–] Dookieman12@piefed.social 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] Steve@startrek.website 3 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Sure but what if they take your boot gun AND your butt gun? What then??

[–] Tja@programming.dev 2 points 1 month ago

Front gun is it, then.

[–] fleem@piefed.zeromedia.vip 2 points 1 month ago

if they take the butt gun they already fell into my trap

Usually a shotgun sits up front. Maybe a rifle in the boot? I’m no copologist, but they likely don’t have a rifle unless situations warrant. Maybe modern day society warrants it meow.

[–] ElCrusher@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 month ago

I saw a motorcycle cop with an AR-15 style assault rifle locked to the side of his bike, riding down the expressway, on my way home yesterday. The gun was verical near the rear on the rider's right side with the barrel pointed down. No shotgun though.

They have that so they can aim at you when you're running away and they don't have to get their shoes dirty to do it. /s

[–] shininghero@pawb.social 14 points 1 month ago

#JustTexasThings

[–] hemko@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 1 month ago (2 children)

New strategy is to have 3 guns

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 18 points 1 month ago (2 children)

That was the old strategy. We're up to 7 guns now.

[–] DanceMomsSavedMe@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 month ago

You gotta give the kids a gun too, they'll never expect that and they don't ever expect a kid to have a wallet so they won't search them to find it.

I think I cracked the code! /s

Man robbed of three guns at gun point shanks robber with his knife.

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Gun owner: Hey, you can't do that.

Always carry a decoy wallet and a decoy gun. That way you give the decoy wallet and gun, the robber is distracted then you have plenty of time to shoot them with the real gun

Did you know there's an ancient seagrass meadow off Western Australia?

In Shark Bay, a single clone of seagrass called Posidonia australis has been growing uninterrupted for roughly 4,500 years. It sprawls over 180 square kilometres underwater, yet genetically it's just one plant. For context, it started sprouting around when the Great Pyramid was being built, and it's still out there doing its thing.

[–] teslekova@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

I did not know about that, just about the stromatolites. Goddamn, that is awesome.

[–] OS2Warp@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 month ago
[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I always see these two (or ones that look like them, sometimes one of them is old) in movie communities/posters/memes. Were they part of some comedy group, or in a movie together?

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 4 points 1 month ago

Yo dawg, I heard you like guns...

[–] Rubanski@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 month ago
