“If Trump was putting his name behind it, it must be a legitimate investment,” one woman told the news organization.

“This is a woman who spoke to Reuters,” Bash said. “She put $2,000 of her savings into the $TRUMP meme at the end of May. Her $TRUMP holding was worth less than $120, she now thinks it was just a pump-and-dump scheme. The second investor, Matt, a 45-year-old machinist in Indiana, put $40,000 into $TRUMP family tokens … Matt’s shares have dropped 79% in value since he bought them for a loss of about $32,700. He does not blame the Trump family.”

I'm in favor of taxation by stupidity. If only that money wasn't going directly into the pockets of the corrupt instead of paying for healthcare and affordable housing.

Not a Ponzi scam at all lol 😆.

If only Bernie Madoff had thought to run for government...

"If Trump was putting his name behind it, it must be a legitimate investment,” one woman told the news organization.

I was going to write that if it's a Trump deal, then you KNOW it's a scam. And yet here is a woman who STILL believes that the Criminal-In-Chief is totally legit and credible.

How do these people stay on board after EVERYTHING they've seen?

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

Her $TRUMP holding was worth less than $120, she now thinks it was just a pump-and-dump scheme.

She at the very least woke up to reality after losing almost $2000.

This guy however, lost $32,000 and still thinks Trump is great. 🙄

Matt’s shares have dropped 79% in value since he bought them for a loss of about $32,700. He does not blame the Trump family.”

And yeah, as far as I'm concerned every single person who put money into the Trump meme coin deserves losing every penny.

All according to Keikaku meme, but with Trump. 😕

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 hours ago

Fuck all investors and/or stock market players on all sides. There is no such thing as easy money, unless it's at the expense of someone else. Greedy pigs, playing with tokens of questionable value, deserve what they get.

Impudent strumpets!

Didn't it already pump and dump when it was released?

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I also remember reading that trading the coin was disabled for everyone but a select few people. Meaning the coins are actually worth $0 because even if you time it right, you literally cannot send the coin anywhere.

Unless that was about another scam coin they did. Hard to keep track.

Also, Hunter's laptop, guys. It's a really big deal, guys.

[–] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I've heard of that meme coin thing before. Isn't that what happened to that spit girl?

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago) (2 children)

I tried finding the article I remember reading but couldn't find it. Was only finding articles about people getting scammed and then saying it's not Trump's fault. And I had to give up the search before being forced to actually kill myself.

spit girl

I dunno what you're referring to...

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 6 points 3 hours ago

Hawk tuah girl who dragged out her 15 minutes to 6 months. $HAWK founders were charged by SEC for pumping and dumping $490M. Case is still in court. She was originally not in the lawsuit, but then she was investigated, but by 2026 they concluded she was just a paid spokesperson and they dropped her from the suit.

I have zero sympathy for investors looking to make free money. Work for your money.

[–] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago (2 children)

Just another meme coin person. She gave an interview with that channel 5 guy. She mentioned that nobody could really do anything with the coin because it was frozen and either that was illegal or what was occuring while it was frozen.

A speculation only market and these meme coins seem bunk from the word go.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Meme coins are the latest version of "limited edition collectibles," like the Franklin Mint garbage, or Beanie Babies. It's just dressed-up to look like a legitimate investment for MAGA morons.

[–] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

It is very beanie baby coded.

I like that.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 3 hours ago

Yeah, but there are at least ones that a lucky person could time, and sell around the same time as the people who are orchestrating the scam, and make a lot of money.

In this case, I'm pretty sure they couldn't even do that.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 9 points 8 hours ago

Many shitcoins do it multiple times, they just rarely reach their previous high.

[–] whoisearth@lemmy.ca 4 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

OMG is this real? I'm stealing it. It's mine now.

[–] Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world 30 points 11 hours ago

They bought the hats, which turned out to be cheap trash

They bought the gold shoes, which turned out to be junk

The bought the knife which was gas station knife quality

They bought the phone which turned out to be cheap and outdated

They bought the coin which turned out to be a scam

But those gold and silver coins will be...those will be worth the investment

/S

[–] Captain_Patchy@lemmy.world 16 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Anyone stupid enough to buy this memecoin thinking that anyone but trump would make money on it is suffering from the real trump derangement syndrome.

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago (2 children)

Many of my coworkers are trumpers and they love to talk about "trump derangement syndrome". Whenever they bring it up I agree with them and say "yes, trump is highly deranged" and they get all apoplectic. "That's not what it means!"

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 3 points 3 hours ago

I always tell them that the people with Trump Derangement Syndrome are the MAGAs. His disapproval ratings are around 65-75%, those aren't the deranged ones. The deranged ones are those who are still following him after EVERYONE else in the entire world has fully accepted that he is a Traitor, Racist, Pedophile, Mysoginist, Virtuosically Incompetent, band mind-bogglingly Corrupt. None of that is speculation or propaganda, it is simple American History.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 4 hours ago

If you're not angry nearly to be point of derangement by now, then fuck you you're part of the problem

[–] hark@lemmy.world 22 points 11 hours ago

Classic trump and dump.

wtf.

Galatians 6:7-8.

reap what you sow, morons.

[–] Phantaloons@piefed.zip 1 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

-in the context of mocking God, here's the full passage, NIV:

7-8
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.

8-8
Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

8-8 ain't bad, tho.

[–] spinne@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 hours ago

He probably knew what to expect, but thought he had a better "system" that would let him be part of the pump and dump profiteers by getting in and getting out faster than the other schmucks who were being taken for a ride. (If he'd read the terms that locked him into holding it for years before being allowed to sell, he might've figured out that he was about to become a schmuck who'd be taken for a ride.)

Anyway, it's not gambling if you win every time!

I love that he pump and dumped his own supporters. He screwed them on the trump phones too. I think they should keep giving trump their money so they can become penniless and experience Trumps attack on social services and food aid. Chefs kiss.

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago) (2 children)

I had a friend in college back in the '80s who was a born-again Christian and a big Jim and Tammy Faye Baker supporter. After their scams and shenanigans had been publicly exposed. And it wasn't even that he didn't believe the news about them -- he did believe they were scammers and kept sending them most of what little money he had. If you want me to explain that mindset, I absolutely can't. It's something along the lines of "God works through disreputable people sometimes".

For me, what's so mysterious is not that people like this can be cheated out of their money. It's that people like this have any money to begin with.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 1 points 2 hours ago

In his mind, he wasn't giving his money to the scammers, he was giving it to GOD, they were just the conduit.

It sounds like he might have some OCD, or other mental issue, and was locked into this pattern, where his brain felt good when he gave money to God. He has to break that pattern somehow, or substitute a different behavior that has a positive outcome, like exercise.

Unfortunately, whatever he substitutes will probably also become unhealthy, until he deals with whatever is causing this behavior, but at least he won't be giving away all his money to criminals.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 4 hours ago

It's fucking peasant brain. Getting very popular again these days.

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 92 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

How can you lose your savings and thank the man who took it from you?

[–] ZpbkPEcaHhIveqdR@lemmy.world 8 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

It could be that it saves face, admitting they were wrong means admitting a lot of what they believe is also wrong and it can be very difficult to admit to that

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

"you may feel a slight sting. That's pride fucking with you. Fuck pride. Pride only hurts, it never helps. You fight through that shit."
