Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Just remember - we'll get out of this the same way we got out of it the last time.

We'll do it just as soon as enough folks realize last time wasn't resolved peacefully.

Ask McKinley how tariffs, imperialism, and abiding insurrection worked out for him.

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

you mean we'll have an economic collapse followed by a world war?

[–] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 13 points 4 days ago

You are acting as if you are not already having that.

The saddest thing, and excuse me if I’m sounding blunt or flippant. But as I shake my head, what low levels of ok’ness so many American people have been conditioned & duped into believing that “as long as I’m not bothered” then it’s all good mentality. Given the current & recent optics, gas prices are getting some a little worked up about stuff. But sadly I digress.

I think that might be the human condition in general, and why huge problems like climate change and economic collapse keep happening (almost) everywhere.

America has the problem all conqueror cultures have - they exist only as long as there are things to conquer.

The history of itself that America tells itself is a long series of self-serving revisionist narratives about how we're justified in our unjustifiable actions. White Americans tell themselves its totally okay to appropriate from other cultures what is lacking in their own. Whiteness is not a cultural identity and that inherent hollowness produces what we see around us. There is no community of whites like there is community within the cultures the white identity seeks to oppress (while admiring and stealing from). If left unchecked, white supremacist identity seeks to stamp out the oppressed they've exploited (then tell themselves all of that stolen culture was rightfully theirs all along).

The whole "bootstraps" culture is a community-destroying myth that Americans have perpetrated upon themselves solely to keep rich pedophiles in power.

they don't know it's happening.

and they have no ability to do anything about it. how exactly is your average working person going to change gas prices? best they can do is try to drive less.

When they talk about the 50s, they mean 1850s.

[–] Aneb@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

More like 1776

We've got some new options in loosely regulated pharmaceutical beverages. It's no cocaine, but I do really love THC infused tea, hop the wave makes some great shit.

[–] homes@piefed.world 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Then there’s all of those gas station pills

[–] Akasazh@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago (2 children)

What's that?

They only pill-like thing at gas stations I know are m&ms

[–] MedicPigBabySaver@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Look for the show by John Oliver..Last Week Tonight... He did a whole show about them recently.

TL;DW... they're bad!

[–] radiofreebc@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago (5 children)

Dude...have you had a Monster? Those things are basically liquid cocaine.

[–] thurstylark@lemmy.today 18 points 5 days ago (2 children)

*laughs in adhd*

Yeah, I like to have one every once in a while so I can take a nap.

[–] radiofreebc@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

Well, as someone who also had adhd (and has snarfed my fair share of rails), coke has the same effect. I could do a fat line and then go straight to sleep.

[–] thurstylark@lemmy.today 1 points 4 days ago

There's a reason Adderall is the way that it is ;)

[–] Breezy@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Does getting tired from energy drinks mean adhd? I have the same reaction with coffee unless i drink enough to have my legs shaking like im juiced up on meth.

[–] thurstylark@lemmy.today 3 points 4 days ago

Idk if it's indicative of ADHD, but i know that many neurodivergent people report a unique, or even paradoxical relationship with stimulants (myself included, obviously).

However, standard disclaimers apply: this is anecdotal evidence, I'm not a doctor, and definitely not your doctor. Check with them, there are usually quick easy screeners available to see if further evaluation is recommended.

[–] zeroConnection@programming.dev 6 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (2 children)

Dude, have you had cocaine?

If you think that is like liquid cocaine... Oh boy you have no idea what you're missing out.

[–] radiofreebc@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

I've had plenty. Always made me sleepy.

I don’t want fake American cocaine. I want real cocaine.

[–] radiofreebc@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Well, go to South America then, because the shit Americans are doing is basically baby laxative.

[–] meowmeow@quokk.au 4 points 5 days ago

It is pretty shitty ;)

[–] SpruceBringsteen@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I'd say worse. I've had drinks with coca and it's much more mellow than a Monster.

[–] radiofreebc@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

I've done lines in Latin America, and Monsters were way more fucked than anything i snorted there.

[–] Billy_fuccboi@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

Oh my sweet summer child...

[–] meowmeow@quokk.au 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Run for office, you’ll get my vote.

Best I can do is fake shrooms at the gas station

[–] WhatThaFudge@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago
[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 1 points 4 days ago

going back? we have been there for awhile now.

[–] CannedYeet@lemmy.world -5 points 3 days ago

This is sensationalism. Are people actually getting sick or hurt? One or two deaths is really not worth worrying about in the scheme of things. I'm more worried when over regulation means we can't have drugs or new drugs are delayed. It's just harder to point out the deaths from the lack of a drug than from the presence of something bad.
