Lets say you wanted to reach North Sentinel Island undetected by them, and then try to somehow integrate into their community. How would you go about it? Be creative.

Lets assume diseases and immunity aren't an issue here. Everyone is biologically safe in this hypothetical.

Not trying to do anything of the sort. Just a thought I had while pooping at work.

You could sneak onto the island somehow, that shouldn't be much of a problem.

But integrating with their society? They will out you in literally seconds, the first time you spoke. If they didn't recognize you as an outsider on sight, they'd recognize from your voice, accent, speech, pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, syntax, etc. that you were a phony before you finished your first sentence.

Eventually your body will decompose and feed nutrients into their eco system. Can't be more integrated than that.

Took the "be creative" assignment seriously. Appreciate that lol

[–] roofuskit@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

I didn't have a lot of options since they kill all outsiders.

[–] deegeese@sopuli.xyz 38 points 1 day ago

The society is small enough that everyone knows everyone and a new stranger will be noticed immediately even if they spoke the language perfectly.

I'd leave people alone.

I seriously don't get why people can't leave others alone.

My biggest pet peeve is people bothering me when I just want to do my thing and they get all butt hurt that I won't give them attention or acknowledge their stupid concerns about my attire or book or my car being covered in pollen. Get a fucking life and focus on your own shit.

[–] MousePotatoDoesStuff@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Good point.

That said, about your car that's covered in pollen...

Is it clutch or automatic?

Have you seen that Honda guy that swapped an electric motor into an AE86 and stuck a manual transmission in clutch and all?

It's just a thought experiment, no-one's actually getting invaded. Don't go looking for excuses to be recreationally angry.

[–] Crystalbound@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago

The population of the whole island is about a hundred people—their basic concept of “humanity” is probably limited to people they’ve seen grow up from birth. (Which would explain why they attack outsiders on sight.)

In theory you might be able to pass yourself off as some kind of supernatural figure, but not without knowing anything about their belief system first.

[–] groet@feddit.org 1 points 15 hours ago

Yea that was my idea as well. Basically live on the island undetected for 10 years while leaving helpful things in the Forrest. Wait till they start telling myths about a helpful spirit. And only then can you actually meet them.

You would need to know their beliefs, traditions, and what they would consider helpful things. Like repairing a broken and discarded spear, or animal traps in the same style they make them ...

In theory you might be able to pass yourself off as some kind of supernatural figure, but not without knowing anything about their belief system first.

  1. Be the same skin tone as them, and have the same features, you'll likely have to go full Tropic Thunder.

  2. Learn their language and cultural norms over decades of observation

  3. Somehow convince a community of under 200 people that you've been there the whole time and they just never noticed you.

It sounds crazy, but there was a bit on an early Zac Creger show called "Wrecked" where they'd add characters after the first season and the explanation was they'd been on the island the whole time and no one paid attention to them.

Hilarious show

Characters on the show (and the audience) are at least familiar with the concept of “stranger”. On NSI, the inhabitants can list every single known human in their universe—convincing them there’s a human they never noticed would be like convincing you there’s a natural number between 6 and 7 you never noticed before.

Being Sam Reich. Noted.

[–] driving_crooner@lemmy.eco.br 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

My bet would be on being strait on the island and let them find me while unconscious. I believe helping others is a humans instinct and that would trigger on them. if that happens they would help me recover and take care of me bonding on the process.

[–] groet@feddit.org 2 points 15 hours ago

They would not find an unconscious "human" they want to help, they would find an unholy deamon come to destroy them who is vulnerable in that moment.

Every human not from their island is evil and wants to enslave them. They believe that, because every human that ever came to their island wanted to enslave them. And they remember.

[–] lonefighter@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

I would be afraid you would wake up as they were digging your grave or preparing your funeral pyre

[–] PonyOfWar@pawb.social 5 points 1 day ago

Have advanced plastic surgery to become an identical doppelganger of a specific North-Sentinelese. Abduct the original person, then show up on the island pretending to have suffered a traumatic head injury, so you can't talk or understand them.

[–] Iconoclast@feddit.uk 4 points 1 day ago

I'd bring weed and snacks.

[–] Astronut@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Well even if I tried it and made friends with the sonsabitches my blackface paint job would wash off the first rain and give me away! I ain’t chancing it.

[–] Iconoclast@feddit.uk 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'd rather get canceled by the online mob than north sentinel tribe.
