Work experience

Aside from London (where I didn't really talk to anyone but my sister who lives there), I spent 2 weeks traveling solo by train around England, staying in Bath, Shrewsbury, York and Scarborough and visiting some of the surrounding towns and villages. I'm sure it helped that it's a country where I have a good grasp of the local language unlike, say, Italy, where I could barely make myself understood. But I had lots of random friendly conversations with strangers in the UK and no negative experiences at all. Way more friendly than the average German for sure.

Big-city people are generally less friendly, so I do believe you that it's a different matter for London. It's the same for e.g. Tokyo, where people are way more cold than in the rest of Japan. And I guess you get a different perspective as a local than as a visitor. Several people in this thread have mentioned Germany, which does surprise me as a German.

It will have an effect on other countries, but fuck up the US economy the worst. Other countries have the benefit of having 190+ other countries to do trade with. Over the next few years, they will increasingly go for alternatives to whatever they've previously traded with the US. Thanks to the stable genius, the US will permanently be left poorer, while other countries will soon have economic growth again.

Japan, China and the UK were the friendliest I've been so far. I'm German.

Ridiculously fast. More than double than what most people will drive on a highway. Illegal on a highway anywhere but Germany. And even there it would be quite unsafe and thus illegal in most driving conditions.

Recently bought "Drova: Forsaken Kin". Basically a Gothic-like in 2D. Runs and controls great on the Deck.

I don't think that is true. In his final video (Source, trigger warning of course) he mentioned his failing health, chronic pain and a perceived betrayal by the speedrunning community. Not a word about the lawsuits in there.

The article makes it pretty clear. Jobst always implied the lawsuit was over the cheating allegations, which wasn't the case. He claimed in one of his videos that Mitchell drove another Youtuber to suicide by suing him and forcing him to pay a large sum of money. As it turns out, that Youtuber didn't have to pay anything at all. The settlement was just to take his existing videos down and not make any further videos about Mitchell. Honestly seems justified to me and not a good look for Jobst.

Mitchell sucks, but falsely claiming that he drove a person to suicide is a dick move to say the least.

No, it's obviously the Matrix out to get you. /s

You asked a bad faith question, using a derogatory slur no less.

Yeah the democrats have been a disappointment. I'd kinda see that as a reason to protest all the harder though. Using more disruptive measures like general strikes as well. Make them listen. Protest movements have overthrown tyrannical regimes before. Gets harder the more they've consolidated their power though.

Mal schauen. Ich kann schwer einschätzen ob Bardella nicht sogar bessere Chancen hat gewählt zu werden.

So I'm sure some of you have also gotten the spam DMs supposedly from "Nicole, the fediverse chick". She is notorious enough across Lemmy to even have her own community now. I think I've gotten like 6 Nicole DMs. While those may seem amusing on their own, there is the worrying suggestion that they might actually be a deanonymization attack. In light of that possibility, are there any measures the admins here could consider to prevent this kind of attack from happening? Other instances' solutions include for example rehosting external embedded images, filtering out external images from DMs entirely or trying to implement filters for preventing spam DMs from being sent. Especially one of the former two solutions would in my opinion be quite good options to protect the privacy of pawb.social users.

I've started to get into Pixelfed these past 2 weeks but one thing I don't quite understand yet, is what content is getting federated and what isn't. Under "Discover" I can see some trending posts from other instances but most are from the one I'm on and most have barely any interactions in terms of comments etc. I'm a bit surprised, as it's supposedly bigger than Lemmy now but I can see much less content and interactions than on Lemmy. So am I actually getting all the content from instances my instance is federated with, or is it maybe just the specific accounts being followed by members of my instance? And are interactions like hearts getting federated or are they just local?

I feel like the Linux Handhelds made by GPH in the 2000s are a nowadays almost forgotten piece of history, even though they were in some ways the predecessor to today's Steam Deck. So I wanted to create a bit of an appreciation post for this chapter in Linux Gaming history. Did any of you use a GP2X back in the day as well? For me, it wasn't just my introduction to Linux gaming, but also game development, as I programmed my first games for it using GLBasic. It was a fantastic machine for emulation as well, got introduced to many old games from the 80s and 90s through it.

I'm currently waiting for all the components for my PC upgrade to arrive. Got the motherboard today and immediately upon opening, I noticed that the CMOS battery was not in its slot but just kind of next to it loose on top of the board. The slot seems fine, it seems to fit securely in there. No scratches on the board either. But now I'm a bit worried - could the battery have shorted something on the motherboard? It holds a charge after all. What do you think - should I return it for a new one untested or are the chances of the battery harming anything so miniscule that I should just go for it and use it in my build?

I've noticed that Pawb no longer seems to receive any new posts from any feddit.de communities. For example, if I view the "DACH" community through Pawb, the latest post is from 7 days ago, while on feddit itself, there were many posts in the last 7 days. Both instances still seem to be federated and aren't on each other's blocklists. Any idea what is happening here?

Hi everyone! I've noticed for a while now that I can't reply to comments made by kbin accounts using my account here. Not even talking about kbin threads, but for example if I reply to any kbin-made comment over on feddit.de, once I click submit it just keeps spinning without ever posting the reply. I often see users from other lemmy instances replying to them though, so it doesn't seem like a general lemmy problem. Does everyone else here have this problem as well?
