The incident involving Mooresville Mayor Chris Carney and has outraged — and also amused — people in the town nicknamed Race City USA after its long history with NASCAR.

"The episode occurred in 2024 but is now bubbling up on multiple fronts," The Journal reported. "Three former town employees are suing Mooresville officials, alleging retaliation for their efforts to preserve the footage or investigate. Town commissioners passed a no-confidence vote this month urging Carney to quit. And a judge last week ordered the town to release video of the incident, a move the town forestalled by appealing Wednesday."

I couldn't find the video footage. Can someone link it?

Still pretty racist, I’ve been there plenty of times

[–] nilloc@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Well there was the noose thing in the black guy’s garage that time.

NASCAR not Race City isn’t the relief, but I might have missed the sarcasm too.

I had the same first thought

[–] Beetschnapps@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

Dude needed a pit crew

[–] Armok_the_bunny@lemmy.world 21 points 2 weeks ago

Sounds like it hasn't been released yet on account of that appeal by the town.

Top tier excuse here

"He has publicly apologized for what he called an innocent visit to town hall, spurred by a bad reaction he had to alcohol and medication that eventually made him vomit. He has told people he took off his pants to clean them," according to The Journal.

[–] NoForwadSlashS@piefed.social 25 points 2 weeks ago

Unlucky he didn't just teleport to a Waffle House instead

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 18 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I’m a little curious how he managed to get vomit on his pants and not his suit coat or shirt.

Also it was the middle of the day. What was he doing with alcohol… and how come he didn’t know his medication reacted with alcohol?

[–] Manjushri@piefed.social 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I think the secret clues are in what he's not saying. First, he never said it was a prescribed medicine. My bet, since we already know he was day drinking, is that it was a recreational substance.

Second, he never actually says he got vomit on his pants. He just says that the mix "eventually" made him vomit. It's likely that he was so messed up from his booze and pharmaceutical cocktail that he shit himself and he's leaving that part out.

That or he just ditched his pants to rub one out, which is where I'd put my money.

Right, this clearly is not Mom's spaghetti

[–] bcgm3@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Ohhh, okay, he was just drunk and high, well okay then

Yeah, vomiting out of his dick, maybe.

I mean, I can think of a half a dozen other unimaginable horrors unrelated to the US happening right now, and I don't even try to look these things up.

[–] baines@piefed.social 3 points 2 weeks ago

Honesty this could win the FIFA Bastion of Integrity Medal all things considered.

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 16 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (7 children)

I honestly don't understand why these people can't just wait til they get home, behind closed doors, to do their pervy shit.

What is the appeal of doing this in a public place? It can't be that thrilling that it's worth ruining your whole life over.

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Bruh some people get their best thrills by doing risky sex.

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Oh I know.

I just don't understand THIS level of risk.

"It never goes away," Dingler said. "It's distracting."

If it doesn't go away after 4 hours, consult your physician.

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago

Another Republican gets another mulligan. Must be America.

[–] Sirdubdee@piefed.social 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

They’re in Marnie’s house. The pants will be returned publicly and embarrassingly.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

grange display, soup, or wearing them yourself?

[–] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I never liked putting them in the soup, cause the soup was the best way to get everyone maxed quickly.

[–] Aneb@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

But the shame dialogue is so good. And are the townspeople really worth engaging with in any capacity?

[–] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

I have the Jorts and Jean mod, and so yeah. Yeah they are worth chatting to. And not being friends with everyone would make Jorts sad.

[–] Meron35@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago

Usual suspects

[–] EvergreenGuru@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Lmao 😂 was he with a woman or a man? Or does he just treat town hall as his home when nobody’s looking,

[–] zikzak025@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

With a woman, according to the first sentence of the article.

[–] EvergreenGuru@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I appreciate you answering my question.

[–] mrmisses@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

You were smart to not click the link and read the article, there is a super disturbing picture at the bottom right before the comments and they don't even warn you or sensor it. I threw up in my mouth

[–] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 2 points 2 weeks ago

I willingly choose not to heed your warning. I paid the price.

[–] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 weeks ago

Yikes, it's never the people you want to see pantsless, is it?

How is this shapeless adipose abomination in any position to interfere sexually with anyone?

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (3 children)

So let's just assume his excuse is false and he was actually there having sex with the journalist. Let's be honest, he almost certainly was. If you lose respect for the guy over the act or the lying to excuse it and don't want to vote for him to represent you, I get that. If you're his wife and want a divorce, absolutely. If you're his child or family and embarrassed by his behavior and don't want to be around him, fine.

Short of that, like... who gives a shit? "He's got to pay" "It's an insult to the city." Really? Because he had casual sex with another consenting adult that isn't his subordinate? Because he did that in a (closed) government building? Why does that matter? Why does that need to be punished? Why does he need to lose his career over it? Of all of the less than righteous things someone in a leadership position could do with their power, the thing I care the absolute least about is consenting adult sex in a government building after hours. Hell I'm not even an adventurous person and I've had sex parked in a dark parking lot and in a closed store. Should I "have to pay" for those dalliances, and lose my career over it?

[–] Butterpaderp@lemmy.world 18 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Reading the article, I think it's because the dude tried to use his mayoral power to delete the video. There's two lawsuits about it. That's probably why people still give a shit.

Also it's a small town, not much going on there

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

Ah I didn't see that part. That does move beyond lying to cover up embarrassing sexual event to destruction of public property.

Yeah, if this wasn't an abuse of power, or otherwise using his position, it's just sex.

Yeah, fucking in the office is pretty stupid, but I don't think anyone should be fired just for that. Demoted, maybe. Given a stern warning, absolutely (and eventually shit canned for repeats, but only because sex is messy and that's shared space). But being punished for having sex? Fuck that, it's stupid, and the idea can fuck right off

[–] dantheclamman@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (5 children)

Yes, if I had sex at my workplace and got caught literally in public with my pants down, I'd expect (and deserve) to be fired. Come on. It is such a low bar to clear. Society has basic expectations
