that's a weird metric to look at because drug approval happens only like, 5-15 years after end of preclinical research, sometimes longer
clinical trials also take fuckton of money but this might be also post-2008 cuts that we only see effects of now
It is indeed not the current administration that led to this.
It certainly won't help but that is not the cause, neither is the 2008 one.
China has been advancing in plenty fields for a few decades now.
They have already caught up or surpassed others in plenty fields.
Americans are clinging to their USA nr 1 mantra, but that's delusional.
They refuse to accept to the fact they already have been beaten and there is nothing they can do about it.
Despite banning and sanctions China has a massive lead in nearly all crucial tech fields.
The gap will only become bigger.
The funniest thing is that all the while China is the largest creditor of USA by far, and USA has had foreign investment pouring in overall all those decades.
USA had the money not just to maintain but rapidly advance, and a head start. To bite the dust in this situation is some serious incompetence.
It wouldn't be this bad but they would've lost either way.
China has 4x the population.
They can spend more money from their healthy economy while the US is declining.

It's so weird watching the cognitively impaired elderly because they say 98% random left field nonsense and then the fucking 2% profound revelation statements.
Besides drug approval, which is not a measurement in itself, I can attest to this. A large German pharma, has increased their head count from 7 to 40 within a year. They bought a local pharma for 1 billion US dollar and at the same time closed a US facility. The same goes for many other pharmas. You can say what you want about China, but they are investing heavily in science. Because they believe in science. Unlike the current regime of the US.
Canada is hiring American doctors left right and center.
I still don't really trust China, it's more reliable than the US regime (minus Democratic areas) rn, but still, that's a low bar.
I'm sure they will carry on the world hegemon tradition of being generally contemptible.

Eh, ymmv. Did you know they defunded BioNTech? The developers of what is now the Pfizer Covid vaccine? Covid vaccine research is desperately needed (see vaccine injury) but there is no funding.
Many EU countries are defunding science. Being a researcher is an absolute nightmare. Brussels is receiving tons more applications for funding because researchers aren't getting money from their own government anymore. University departments are being shut down.
People who have been doing scientific and medical research for decades are finding themselves on the streets.
It's so fun looking for work now after a career in vaccine and cancer therapy development.

Yes, but that's entirely missing the point here.
Drug research and development takes decades until final approval. If there is a decrease in the US (or an increase in China), you need to look for cuts (or additional investments) in the early 2000s.
The damage this idiot has done will not be visible for quite some time...
The regime cannot fail, it can only be failed. Those scientists were supposed to do their job of finding evidence for whatever possibly non-metaphorical bug RFK Jr has up his ass on a given day. 🙄
