I don't think I've ever eaten cake with a spoon before, sooo... I'm gonna go fork, myself.

[–] Bonesince1997@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

Save the spoon for your significant other.

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 18 points 1 month ago (5 children)

Who the fuck eats cake with a spoon??

[–] jol@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

You sound like a lovely person open to other cultures and perspectives.

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 5 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I don’t care what someone does, but if I’m serving cake, it’s coming with a fork. Just like if I’m serving soup, it’s coming with a spoon.

[–] sukhmel@programming.dev 17 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I half expected ‘Just like if I’m serving soup, it’s coming with a fork. I just hate spoons’

I'm not above using whatever is available, but the correct answer is fork.

[–] Sunsofold@lemmings.world 15 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (1 children)

Yes. Eating it with a knife is just too dangerous and uncomfortable.

[–] draco_aeneus@mander.xyz 7 points 4 weeks ago

You're just skipping over the obvious choice of chopsticks, I see.

[–] PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S@lemmy.sdf.org 13 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Fork for real cake, spoon for ice cream cake.

Here in Denmark, it's almost unheard of to use anything but a teaspoon, but personally I prefer a fork.

Depends on the cake. For most cake, either will do, but I prefer a fork. For tres leches ice cream cake, or similar cakes, spoon.

[–] schnurrito@discuss.tchncs.de 9 points 4 weeks ago

A fork works better for most cakes, but it may depend on the exact consistency.

I don't have a preference, but the rest of my family has very strong preferences. My mom was convinced for the longest time that I was eating with the "wrong" one (I can't remember what the "right" one is for her), so she'd always get me the "wrong" one, which is also what my sister likes. I just went along because I genuinely don't care. Then my mom got very upset one day when I was using the "right" one, cause she was insistent that I always liked the other one. Nah, I just like cake.

[–] lordnikon@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Chopsticks I eat it slower and thus enjoy it more

Is there ice cream on it or in it? Spoon. Otherwise, fork.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 6 points 4 weeks ago

I don't. Preferences set one up for disappointment. I simply use what is offered or whichever has more clean.

Forks for ice cream fresh from the freezer though, they break into it better

[–] Bazell@lemmy.zip 6 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (1 children)

It depends on cake's texture. Some cakes are way to soft to eat them with fork.

I would eat soup with fork if could.

A little spoon ("tea spoon")

[–] undefined@lemmy.hogru.ch 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Fork. I hate when the spoon can’t be easily cleaned by the mouth which tends to be the case when it comes to cake. Yuck

It depends on the cake. If there's ice cream, whipped cream, or some other sort of sauce then I'd prefer a spoon.

If it's just cake, I don't super care.

I use a mini-fork (dessert fork?)

[–] RisingSwell@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 month ago

Spoon normally, any cake I stab with a fork falls off so I might as well use a spoon.

[–] Theatomictruth@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I almost never use a fork for anything, spoon for sure. 95% of foods I eat with spoon, chopsticks, or hand.

[–] BillyClark@piefed.social 4 points 4 weeks ago

I knew a guy like that. We went to a restaurant together and he ordered a salad, and started eating it with a spoon.

Normally, when a person does something unusual, I don't say anything, but I was surprised. It had never even occurred to me that a salad with broad leaves could be eaten with a spoon.

So slightly taken aback, I said to him, "Why aren't you eating a salad with a fork?" And he replied, "I am accustomed to eating with a spoon."

Why not combine both, spork, best of both world.

Spoon, so I can completely clean my plate. Also prevents crumbs from falling.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 4 points 4 weeks ago

This question is why some overly clever and yet still useless fellow invented the spork.

Though, the answer for me is simple. Is Icencream involved? Spoon. No ice cream? Fork.

[–] jol@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Mostly with my hands, otherwise with a fork.

Neither. What’s wrong your fingers, not bourgeois enough for you?

[–] Patrikvo@lemmy.zip 5 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

For starters, we don't know what and whose orifices those have been in.

[–] Codpiece@feddit.uk 8 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

Well I do, they’re my fingers. And I washed them.

I’m not taking the gamble of using other peoples fingers.
