"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

How are you going to compare humans' usage to the usage of the thing that they are using?

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

I met this psychopathic argument since day 1 of the AI hype...

That is such a casually psychopathic thing to say

Humans exist and have mass and value.

How out of touch can you be?!

Altman creates a lot of hot air and leaves waste on everything he touches

Fuck Sam Altman.

I mean the man is right. I am much more expensive to maintain than the theoretical "Ummdustry-equivalant processor" (UEP). plus I have a lower duty cycle, am less convinient to employ/dismiss and lack scalability. That's why I'm terrified of being replaced (economically) by it.

one thing i wish i had internalized and developed a profound understanding of early on in life is that, from the perspective of our employers, we have no value beyond that which we generate for them, minus what we're costing them. that i ever bought into the "we're family" and "we care about our employees" rhetoric is one of the things i look back on and want to backhand my 20 yr old self

if whatever it is you're bringing to the table can be gotten for cheaper than you're getting paid for it (even if it's garbage AIslop), guess what: you're getting at-will-workplaced
