"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

Just had YouTube spit an ad to me on mobile for what they called a new Dragon Ball Z game, every single shot was ai and driven by an ai voice. There really is no one approving content anymore.

Why would YT veto someone who threw money at them?

Shitty ads that are nothing like the game (99% of every mobile game ad) annoy immensely.

I'd say leave a polite but accurate review, but on iOS, developers can suppress negative reviews (or delete them).

On android, these games are filled with 5 star bot reviews. Any complaint is met with a default response

This doesn't have anything to do with AI, but I'd really wish YouTube/Google/Facebook wouldn't be full of scam ads. It feels that at least one third of all ads are scam, overpriced dropshippers or gambling.

And then they wonder why people want to block ads.

They really need to be held accountable for the ads they show. If Google shows you an ad and it scams you, Google should be financially on the hook. Scam ads would disappear overnight.

Newpipe is a great YouTube player on Android that doesn't show ads.

I am on iPhone, if you have any suggestions.

Uninstall YouTube. ;) No, I'm serious. I'm on an iPhone 16 Pro Max (well, I'm on my Mac, my iPhone is next to me). I just browse YouTube in Safari on the iPhone. (On the Mac, it's Firefox with uBlock Origin.)

I'm currently using uBlock Lite for ad blocking in Safari, and it works well with YouTube. I don't get ads. I do get them on IMDb, which is annoying. I also have two paid options, Adguard Pro and Wipr 2, but those aren't presently active (since ad blockers can disrupt one another).

Installing ublock now, didn’t even know it was on the app store.
