Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

A British woman who was shot dead by her father while visiting his home in Texas had argued with him about US President Donald Trump earlier that day, an inquest has heard.

Lucy Harrison, from Warrington in Cheshire, was shot in the chest on 10 January 2025 in Prosper, near Dallas.

Police in the town investigated the 23-year-old's death as possible manslaughter but no criminal case was brought against Kris Harrison after a grand jury in Collin County declined to indict him.

An inquest into Lucy Harrison's death opened earlier at Cheshire Coroner's Court, where her boyfriend Sam Littler described the "big argument" about Trump, who was preparing to be inaugurated for his second term of office.

The article gets way worse, "Littler said on the morning of 10 January his partner had asked her father during the Trump row:

"How would you feel if I was the girl in that situation and I'd been sexually assaulted?"

Kris Harrison had replied that he had two other daughters who lived with him so it would not upset him that much. "

Holy fucking shit.

This is how I know he murdered his own daughter.

[–] not_that_guy05@lemmy.world 24 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah I was about to post the same shit. That is disgusting that is his fuckin daughter for fuck sake.

Texas should be nuked without question. That state is not worth saving after they said they wouldn't indicate him.

Fuckin magats are willing to let their children get raped for the pedo god king trump.

[–] user224@lemmy.sdf.org 24 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (2 children)

I've been thinking about that for a few minutes now. Does it mean he considers them property which loose value by being raped?

That reply just doesn't make sense to me.

[–] faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 33 points 3 weeks ago

I chose to be homeless at 19 because I was terrified my stepdad would find out I'd been raped and kill me for not being a virgin any more.

Dude admitted he was an alcoholic who had already had a bottle of wine before the shooting, and they couldn't get a manslaughter charge to at least go to trial? Being drunk and accidentally killing someone is manslaughter.

This country is so fucked up.

[–] foodandart@lemmy.zip 57 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

In religiously paternalistic Texas, killing one’s own children is a God-given biblical right.

[–] Vupware@lemmy.zip 30 points 3 weeks ago

Unless they’re unborn! There is nothing more sacred than an unborn baby. Born babies can get discarded, though.

[–] WesternInfidels@feddit.online 14 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I have heard it said that the prosecution has enormous power over what grand juries get to hear, to such an extent that grand jury results are mostly just a way of formalizing what the prosecutor has already decided. If the state wants an indictment, the state pretty much always gets one.

Man shoots daughter dead and everyone's just okay with it because she didn't like Trump?! The fuck is going on down there? How have you existed as a country this long?!

[–] lechekaflan@lemmy.world 44 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Man shoots daughter dead and everyone’s just okay with it because she didn’t like Trump?!

It's like South Asian "honor" murders where women are killed for even the most trivial matters.

[–] GalacticGrapefruit@lemmy.world 29 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Literally, these are honor killings. Full stop. Take a look at the gender makeup of these anti-ICE protests and then take a look at the ICE goons.

It's patriarchy, and people fighting patriarchy. It's always been about white guys feeling terrified of their power eroding, and since white patriarchy has no coherent acceptable response other than rage, their first resort is everyone else's last resort.

PSA: Avoid Texas, it's never safe. It's like Florida.

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 18 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (2 children)

It really depends on the part. Austin and San Antonio are very art-focused, moderate/liberal cities in some of the most beautiful areas of the country, but everywhere in America has rural populations of utterly deranged hog-people.

A place like Dallas you aren't as likely to get shot, but you are more likely to face weird, old-money racism and discrimination.

The problem with texas is it has some of the most vast areas of rural population, as the entire state is just this flat sprawl of land with isolated communities full of poor drug addicts who just stare at the flatness of it all before going insane.

I know two very excellent people from Texas. They both had the sense to move abroad. I keep ripping on them because "You forgot about the Alamo, didn't you?!"

WHAT THE FUCK! THE GRANDJURY REFUSE TO INDICT? This total bullshit hang that motherfucking dad from a fucking tree.

[–] NewSocialWhoDis@lemmy.zip 56 points 3 weeks ago (5 children)

After they have witnesses of him telling her he didn't care if she got raped!

Texas, I swear to God. I am from there, all of my family is there. My daughters adore their cousins and beg to move there. Absolutely not.

My MAGA Dad raised his hand like he was going to hit me at Christmas during a political discussion. I was shocked. He is old and feeble, so I told him I would hit him back.

  • Accidentally took the daughter in the downstairs bedroom.
  • Accidentally produced a gun.
  • Accidentally loaded it.
  • Accidentally pointed it at the daughter.
  • ~~Accidentally flicked the safety off.~~ Apparently it was a Glock
  • Accidentally pulled the trigger.

...

Color me suspicious but even if all that was just a series of unlucky coincidences, that man should be kept away from all guns for the rest of his life. At the very minimum.

So they’re doing honor killings now?

[–] No_Eponym@lemmy.ca 27 points 3 weeks ago

Y'all Qaeda and the most excellent Yee-hawd.

[–] stressballs@lemmy.zip 54 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Have you ever noticed how the right always says the "left went too far" and somehow manages to push their argument by pointing to a single tweet or headline? Why doesnt that work against them too?

[–] 4am@lemmy.zip 47 points 3 weeks ago

They don’t give a shit about words or truth, they just yell and invent when they don’t get their way until everyone does what they want because they are the smart ones who know better, which is why they need to kill everyone who doesn’t agree with them and say it’s because that’s what we want

[–] pivot_root@lemmy.world 20 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Because they don't care about evidence or facts unless it fits into their narrative.

You can point to posts advocating for violence or censorship coming from their ilk and they'll just attribute it back to the other side because "we wouldn't need to if they didn't do it to us first." It's just the abuser justification, "look at what you made me do".

Or they will just outright deny reality, dismissing opposing evidence as conspiracies, exaggerated, or misunderstood. Did Elon really do a Nazi salute? "No, no. He was just sending his heart out to Americans!"

And when there's overwhelming evidence that they can't do mental gymnastics around? They shut down the conversation. They stop talking about it. They ignore it. They bury it. Out of sight, out of mind.

When someone is indoctrinated into that way of thinking and makes their politics a part of their personality, you are not going to beat them at their own game. Their sense of identity is tied to their beliefs and their ego will not let them accept anything that goes against those beliefs. They need to be deprogrammed.
