On the upside, this means any country kidnapping Trump without warning will be an option. Canada, if you're listening...

[–] Rusty@lemmy.ca 20 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Canadians burned the White House 200 years ago, we can do it again.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 13 points 3 days ago

Well, we could burn down what's left of it. Trump has worked hard already to make sure it's a shit show

[–] AreaKode@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It's already in disrepair after the current owner tried some DIY renovations to build a shed out back (a ballroom, I believe he called it).

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Whitehouse is the new less successful groverhaus?

[–] BarrelAgedBoredom@lemmy.zip 6 points 3 days ago

Are we certain trump isn't grover in an elaborate disguise?

[–] TwoBeeSan@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

Good meme sir. As always. The benefit of the world being shit is the shitposting

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 days ago

Yeah, my first thought was, why can't we get anyone to kidnap Trump? (obv. not Melania)

My second thought was, The Ransom of Red Chief.

The First Gulf War was at least a legitimate and internationally sanctioned response to an unprovoked act of aggression by one power upon a sovereign nation.

This is just... unilaterally fucking kidnapping a head of state we aren't at war with because we don't like him?

Fuck, I have about the lowest opinion possible of Maduro, but this wasn't the way to go about things, and God only knows how it's going to end. I hope without massive casualties in Venezuela, but I suspect it will be something to that tune.

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 19 points 3 days ago (2 children)

This one sounds like it's an

unprovoked act of aggression by one power upon a sovereign nation.

[–] HasturInYellow@lemmy.world 15 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Sounds like the sort of thing that calls for a legitimate and internationally sactioned response.

[–] whyNotSquirrel@sh.itjust.works 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

By who and how?

USA's military command seems to follow the order (illegals AND stupid) of this insane person in power, and he's insane enough to order a nuke attack (I'm sure he's dreaming about it)

you cannot expect any other sane country to take a risk of nuclear war. The solution has to come from inside the USA

[–] HasturInYellow@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

There doesn't need to be war. Everyone could just sell their treasury bonds from the USA and watch the dollar fall into dust.

[–] Eat_Your_Paisley@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Government’s are not going to crash the world economy over Maduro

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 6 points 3 days ago

Yeah. Unfortunately, I don't think we're getting an international response of the same magnitude as Saddam got.

[–] infinitesunrise@slrpnk.net 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

False. Oil is like the only thing right now that is actually cheap as fuck.

We are going to war over a need to distract from the Epstein Files.

The entire Venezuela story is just a subsection of the Epstein Files story. You are still watching the Epstein Files story.

[–] Ethalis@jlai.lu 52 points 3 days ago (4 children)

The world's biggest military superpower is now apparently willing to just kidnap anyone they don't like, anywhere in the world, ignoring international law. That's so fucking terrifying that I'm at a loss for words

[–] positiveWHAT@lemmy.world 26 points 3 days ago (2 children)

The fuckers think they have jurisdiction in other countries, but disregard the international court.
Dear citizens of USA, expect more hate your way.

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 10 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Unfortunately, it's going to be up to the rest of the developed world to do something about it. If Trump just gets away with it he's absolutely going to invade another country before the month is over. It might be Canada, or Greenland, but this is going to give him the taste. If expansionism is on the plate, Mango Mussolini is gonna eat till someone kicks him out of the restaurant.

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 7 points 3 days ago

Gluttony was always what shitwit was best at.

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Mexico is next. Once the World Cup is over they will kidnap the president of Mexico and use drugs as an excuse.

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 1 points 3 days ago

Ooh, interesting take. I hadn't considered that one at all. Perhaps a violent unification of the American Supercontinent is what's in the works.

[–] marighost@piefed.social 1 points 3 days ago

Just aim your hate at the regime I DID NOT VOTE FOR. We hate this shit, too.

[–] theunknownmuncher@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago

is now apparently willing

Where have you been? There's a reason US schools do not teach any South American history besides the Maya and Inca

[–] ThunderComplex@lemmy.today 5 points 3 days ago

Ok but Trump said this was in accordance with US law so it’s all good doe /s

[–] IcyToes@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

This isn't the first time US went for regime change. It is just more blatant and direct.

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

Reminds me of Noriega which wasn’t all that long ago. They accused him of drug trafficking too.

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 34 points 3 days ago (10 children)

Explanation: The US has, apparently, kidnapped Nicolas Maduro, the authoritarian leader of Venezuela. We did this, apparently, despite not being at war with Venezuela or having any other justification other than "We don't like him."

There is a slim chance that it ends here, and everything turns out rainbows and butterflies. There is a much, much larger chance that this kicks off a larger war in which many Venezuelan civilians will die because shitwit here wants to play kidnapper, and the whole US system is too broken - or too disinterested - to stop him.

[–] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 24 points 3 days ago (1 children)

What the fuck

What the fuck

What the fuck

[–] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Wait when did this happen? Just now?

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 15 points 3 days ago (1 children)
[–] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago

Fucking hell. One more step to full terrorist superpower.

[–] ji59@hilariouschaos.com 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I honestly don't know, what to think about this. Maduro is a dictator who had driven third of population out. So I have no sympathy for him. But it is clear that Trump administration doesn't give a hoot about the people, Trump is even good friend with El Salvador's dictator. Also, US was many times before successful with overthrowing regimes, but it usually ended in something worse. But in the end, US is the strongest country, so they can do whatever they want. I'm glad I live in a country that is considered an ally and has no oil.

[–] DokPsy@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago

If you haven't been paying attention, the current us gov does not give two shits about who is or isn't an ally and does not care about any previous agreements made

Me on Jan 1: It's a new year. It can't be as bad as 2025. I'm gonna stop drinking, and exercise, lay off the weed, and cook healthy.

USA on January 3: Invades a sovereign nation and kidnaps leader.

Me on January 3: Fuck it. Chugs from a 5th of whiskey while rolling a blunt.

[–] Mrkawfee@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago

The fascist American regime kidnapped the President of Venezulea.

"We can't get Greenland or the EU. Let's go with another Latin American country, that has always worked before."

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Historical context: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_invasion_of_Panama

Say what you will. The US is deposing yet another regime over oil.

But I’m breathing a sigh of relief over what could have been a much larger “just cause” war.

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Don't breathe deep just yet. This isn't necessarily the end of it.

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Yyep. My comment aged like a ripe avocado.

[–] Allonzee@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

As an American, I hope his presidential guard at least killed some of us.

[–] infinitesunrise@slrpnk.net -1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Nope. The US bombed a dozen military installations around Caracas and then flew directly to Maduro with a bunch of helicopters. Screams of a negotiation arranged ahead of his time: I'll make it simple for you to take me if you don't shed Venezuelan blood.
