Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

I thought it was weird they were implying femboys can't be straight, so I went to investigate. What they mean is that men who identify as heterosexual are finding themselves attracted to femboys and intentionally seeking pornography featuring them.

https://archive.ph/Ok7z0

I'm more confident than ever in my hypothesis that bi/pan is secretly the most common sexuality.

[–] Atlusb@lemmy.world 51 points 2 weeks ago

So the headlines could read

" _stright_men are in femboys according to recent survey"

[–] melmi@lemmy.blahaj.zone 33 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I think it's a bit of a double entendre, because it's also referencing this specific part of the report:

As the stock of “femboys” rose, the fate of porn featuring “straight” guy porn has fallen. Searches for “straight” on PornhubGay tumbled nine spots to 19th place, just above “cruising” and two spots below “cute femboy.” (Notably, “straight guys first time” is still in the 6th spot, though it was knocked out of the top five.)

So "straight" guys are "out" as a gay porn category and femboys are "in".

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Oh no, so the gays are turning straighter??

/s

[–] JennyLaFae@lemmy.blahaj.zone 23 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Iirc only about 10% on either end are fully gay or straight, with the other 80% having various shades of m-spec sexualities.

Then you add kink/shame/taboo to the mix.

And we also consider that many of these people are Pavlov training themselves to be aroused by their own pheromones in their goon caves in the absence of the complete sensory experience of sex.

[–] Clearwater@lemmy.world 16 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

So I don't think that's what the article was going for (see melmi@lemmy.blahaj.zone 's reply), but also yes.

I consider myself straight and for the most part normal for a 20-something guy.

So far, I've only ever dated women, however I certainly consider some femboys to be very cute and I wouldn't inherently be opposed to dating one. While I'm not attracted to penises, and I'm certainly not attracted to masculine men, some femboys are absolutely "feminine enough" that I do find them attractive.

I’m more confident than ever that bi/pan is secretly the most common sexuality.

In many ancient societies, being bi was the norm. Like it was actually considered close minded to be straight or gay.

Obviously this isn’t proof but I have it memorized so I’m gonna spout it off anyway, there’s a scene in doctor who where a lesbian companion gets hit on by a Roman centurion, he tells her “oh. Well I’m just normal. You know, guys and girls. But that’s okay [other centurion] is like that too.”

Meanwhile my taste In women: muscle mommies.

Please explain.

[–] Xenny@lemmy.world 92 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I think humanity just gets bored and wants what isn't immediately in front of us. We're bored of muscly men and tiny women so we want some tiny men and muscly women now. Makes sense to me.

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 25 points 2 weeks ago

There's a reason the calf used to be seen as one of the most attractive parts of a person. Women wore long dresses and Men wore long pants.

[–] eyes@lemmy.world 30 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Femboys can enjoy muscle mommies.

republican states are banning pornhub

the demographic down bad enough in these states to bypass the bans have a type

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

You mean the same demographic that is responsible for an explosion of Grindr activity at any and every major Republic public event?

Thats not like, a joke... its quite literally measurable data.

[–] thefluffiest@feddit.nl 6 points 2 weeks ago

You’re just avant-garde

It's the usual bisexual dilemma: "Look how smoll he is! And look how tall she is!"

[–] AltheaHunter@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 weeks ago

Muscle mommies are hot, what else is there to explain?

Finally, the world begins to heal

[–] mika_mika@lemmy.world 42 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I'm a fluid non-binary individual and all I can do is laugh at how absolute gendered folks handle explaining the near circle venn diagram that is femboys/transfems when it comes to sexual attraction. 🤭

[–] BanMe@lemmy.world 45 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (4 children)

I'm mentoring a femboy in our queer nonprofit, he came to our board retreat and got adorably flustered trying to explain to the group "why wouldn't you want to look like what you're attracted to?"

I've offered to build him a Linux box but he says "not yet."

[–] verdare@piefed.blahaj.zone 25 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I’ve offered to build him a Linux box but he says “not yet”

One of us. One of us…

“why wouldn’t you want to look like what you’re attracted to?”

be the woman you want to see in the world

[–] InevitableWaffles@midwest.social 9 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Are you going to offer the kneehigh socks or let them pick when you bring the Linux box over? 🤣

So the person in that photo got an OnlyFans or?..

[–] JayDee@lemmy.sdf.org 17 points 2 weeks ago

Nonono I'm pretty sure that's the article author, Matthew Rodriguez. /s

but maybe.

[–] dejected_warp_core@lemmy.world 22 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Not that I disagree, or even have the data to see what's really going on here, but... okay, look. Men have a place in porn. That said, IMO, nothing kills the vibe faster than some dude with the build and charisma of a wet potato sack. Aesthetics reign supreme here and yeah, pretty guys are out there crushing it.

Okay so I've been thinking of being more feminine myself. I've started painting my nails and Im really feeling that direction. But I don't want to attract strait men (ew gross). How to be fem boy but attract female or other fem boy?

[–] djsoren19@lemmy.blahaj.zone 31 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

This may shock you, but women are into femboys.

[–] IndieSpren@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 2 weeks ago

can confirm

more women want to date me now because i present as a femboy. it's hilarious, but understandable. they feel safer around me generally and appreciate makeup/style choices and my higher attention on emotions which i learned through the queer community.

[–] WoodScientist@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

I mean, it's a pretty effective filter. Someone who paints their nails and wears women's clothes from time to time is at the very least unlikely to be some misogynistic asshole. I'm sure there are some exceptions, but as a general rule, it's a good simple filter.

[–] scoobford@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

My best advice is not to worry about it. Everyone likes femboys, so you just decline any invitations you receive from men in the same way you would decline unwanted advances from a woman/enby/etc. you find unattractive.

I think the opposite is tomboys and it's the older word that femboy is based on? But don't quote me on that until I've checked en etymylogicimist.

Edit: ok, can't find any sources to back this up, but tomboy is older and in a similar semantic space, so I'm still willing to claim that it was at least the inspiration for the shape of the word.

[–] scoobford@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If femboy is feminine boy, then it should be masc girl. Which lesbians call them mascs a lot so...I guess they are?

My kingdom for a dominant femboy. I need a body that can rock booty shorts and pigtails, with the personality of Magneto.
