1. Relevant commentary on your own dull life. Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience. This is our most important rule. Direct questions, random thoughts, comment baiting, advice seeking, many uses of "discuss" rarely comply with this rule.

2. Original, Fresh, Meaningful Content.

3. Avoid repetitive topics.

4. This is not a search engine
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions or identify objects. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.

There are a number of content specific communities with subject matter experts who can help you.

Some other communities to consider before posting:

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.

6. No hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.

7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Some examples: - starting a post with "So" - starting a post with pointless phrases, like "I hope this is allowed" or “this is my first post” Only share good quality, cropped images. Do not share screenshots of images; share the original image.

They just needed a shoulder to crayon.

The green line at the bottom is the border of where they were allowed to draw.

As a 38yr old artist person, I would like to thank you for reminding me of my own father letting me draw all over his arms when I was much younger. I can't speak for your kids, but I remember my gratitude at the time (which I would recognize later) that my dad was letting me do something otherwise not ok for the sake of silliness and love.

Not to get all serious about it. But I hope you do cherish this, in the off chance your kids remember the love!

Edit: "in the off chance" I meant as "I don't know what kids are into these days I feel old!!"

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago

Absolutely I cherish it. I'm very proud that the kid wants to interact with me in this, or any other, way. Please feel free to interpret any of the hearts currently on my arm as being relayed to you!

Hah, awesome! Now go get that made permanent for ultimate dad points.

If you don't get that permanently tattooed on there, you would disappoint the entire internet greatly.

PEER PRESSURE. PEER PRESSURE. PEER PRESSURE. SUCCUMB TO THE PEER PRESSURE!

Photograph it fully first etc, but a clean arm lets them draw another one next weekend.

Honestly, I fell asleep and kind of forgot about this, then woke up and was briefly alarmed about the number of colors visible on my shoulders.

Then I almost immediately remembered letting the kid draw on my arms and smiled.

Dammit, I was coming to the comments to drop that one.

I've seen supposedly professionally done tattoos that are objectively worse

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'll be honest, when I posted this picture of my kid's drawings, I didn't expect so much conversation about tattoos.

If I didn't think it would embarrass them as an adult, I would probably seriously consider it for at least some of the art. The rainbow is my favorite option.

Good on you for not being one of those shitty parents who thinks embarrassing their children is the highest form of entertainment.

That being said, it would be an awesome tattoo...

[–] angrystego@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It's such a beautifully positive picture full of love!

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 14 points 2 months ago (1 children)

How can you tell?

It's the hearts, isn't it? I bet it's the hearts.

Being serious, though, the three people depicted are supposed to be the kid, the mom and me. I love it when they fondly represent the family.

[–] BCsven@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 months ago

Hearts and Rainbows. All signs of happiness and caring happening, besides the "yeah you can draw on my arm" chill vibe

I was just thinking, if my kids did that I would tattoo at least part of it. That would be an amazing tattoo to have.

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

I'm tempted. It would be the first tattoo with any color I got.

Amusingly, one of my other tattoos is of a maze / labyrinth (you can see it in my recent post history) and another drawing the kid did last night was of the path through.

[–] clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 months ago

My kids gave me a sharpie sleeve recently, and I took a bunch of pictures. I'm definitely considering it for my first tattoos.

[–] rarsamx@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Is there something like Reddit "mademesmile" group? This really belongs there.

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

There's at least one "wholesome" community.

Thank you for the kind comment!

[–] SassyRamen@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

That is so sweet!

Unfortunatly for you dad, it's time to frame it!

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

That’s one that some might consider getting one of permanently done in the same spot with a real tattoo.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

that's a pretty tattoo
