My town had a "Video Tonight" and we were allowed one rental per week, leading to the following regular exchange:

"Want to go to Video Tonight?"

"No, I'd rather wait until tomorrow."

It's still so interesting noticing comments from you, as I used to be frustrated by the bubble letters in your name. Since my client started suppressing that, I find you often contribute to conversations and I appreciate it.

I tried to express this once before, but at that point my client was still somewhat immature and randomly put my comment in a different, irrelevant thread.

Anyway, thanks for being a classic and long lasting part of lemmy and for showing up in my thread! I'm glad it provided you with some enlightenment.

I took my young kid to a recent library event - the first time I've been to a library in several years, to be honest - and overheard the organizer (or leader or whatever) of the event saying "that's why we're here: to give people somewhere safe they can have entertainment for free."

I didn't have much in the way of an opinion on that person prior to that, positive or negative, but I respected the hell out of them after hearing them say that.

Not a fan of lojban?

From now on, I shall only refer to them as kentauru.

This is an entirely new one for me. Thanks!

I am now questioning every word I've ever pronounced, but I think "shawarma" has a softer "sh" whereas my apparently incorrect pronunciation of centaur has a harder "ch," like "change."

Perhaps you should consult Tony Stark to satisfy your centaur shawarma cravings. If anyone could make it happen, it's probably him.

Well, apparently my answer ("sen-chwar") is also very incorrect. Someone else in this thread also answered "sen-a-tar." I would argue both beat yours for incorrectness, as they don't fit the spelling.

I thought mine was based on something French, based on almost nothing, but another person in the thread has corrected that theory.

Rude.

But I'm glad I could add some levity to your day! I can often make my wife chortle, but when I can make her laugh incredibly hard it's a good day.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 17 hours ago

Well, it seems not a single other person agrees with me on my choice of pronunciation, but it's nice to not be the only one whose answer isn't based on the spelling!

Thank you for the answer.

Heh, thanks, that's a very supportive answer.

I said in another comment, but I was indeed an avid reader and have definitely had that experience with other words (my dad once teased me for my pronunciation of "unequivocally," for example, and no I won't provide my incorrect effort here). However, I'm pretty sure I got this particular pronunciation from my mom, though I can't say why I think that. If I'm correct, I wonder why she thought it was pronounced this way; she also read a lot, so perhaps your theory is correct but generationally shifted.

You're not wrong.

My wife pronounces it three different ways, each of which she can support. I pronounce it one, but other than that it's the way I've heard it I can't support my pronunciation even after some searches. What's yours and why?

Last week, I made a post about a demon in my backyard at 4am.

For anyone curious, this is how it disguises its form during daylight. Pretty convincing and a lot less unsettling.

Jokes aside, I remember the PoM song being titled "She Fucking Hates Me," but according to Wikipedia it wasn't part of the title, just the lyrics.

I guess it actually was more mild than I remembered.

edit: Add a word.

My 5-year-old has set up a selection of large rocks on the railing of my back porch, which my kitchen faces.

In the kitchen, there is a small TV with a red status LED, which due to the window construction reflects twice.

As I naively walked into my kitchen, the only person in my house awake in the early morning, the rocks and lights lined up in an alarming way. I got quite a start.

(I know the picture isn't great quality ... I think the phone camera didn't want to focus on reflections. Also I zoomed in to hide my kitchen clutter.)

edit: Clarifications.

Do you want to live in the city or country? Either way, why? Is there a specific place you'd like to live?

edit: It's not a great picture, but I was trying to remove anything that could be used to doxx.

The cat pictured is Ripley. Don't tell her I told you.

Maze hurt her ear! (lemmy.world)

According to the vet, she probably scratched her ear and nicked a blood vessel, causing a hematoma. They drained her ear, but it seems to be (fortunately slowly) refilling. We're planning to schedule another appointment for Monday, when they said they could basically sew her ear together to prevent it from happening again. I would have guessed they would go for cauterization, but apparently not.

edit; She's also quite underweight (apparently she's six pounds). I thought that was because she's getting old (she's approaching fifteen years) but the vet says she just needs to eat more. We got her some wet food to entice her appetite.

He's a good boy, though.

Either it was a local thing (I originally got the picture at Good Will) or my search skills are lacking. My wife loved it so I wish I could get her a reproduction.

Earlier today, I basically passed out. (I've had guests for most of the past week and have had very inadequate sleep.) Before I fell asleep, I texted a friend about a YouTube video that might interest them (Legal Eagle suing Honey). Then I fell asleep.

While I was sleeping, the friend responded with their insights about the case. I have no memory of it, but apparently the attached picture is how I responded to their comments on a video about a legal case. For some reason, that friend did not respond.

edit: Just refining the wording.

I'm not even sure how many chickens I can fit on my current hard drive, but it's probably more than the number of persons I can fit.
