I'm right handed, but I keep my phone in my left pocket since I like to be able to pull out my phone to check the map or msgs while using my primary hand for another activity.

When texting, I usually use both hands but certainly can type with just my left hand.

Where do you keep your phone & why?

Nice try, pickpocket on the metro

For me it was always clear to have my wallet in my right pocket and my phone in the left one. I never questioned this until now..

[–] Kidplayer_666@lemm.ee 5 points 1 week ago

Same to me lol

[–] ApplyingAutomation@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I didn't mention this in the post ~ but I keep both my phone & wallet in my left pocket (I have a slim wallet though).

The right pocket is for keychain, pocket knife, loose coins, etc. Generally "unsorted" things.

Phone right front. Wallet right back.

Keys left front. You can't keep a phone and keys in the same pocket. Especially not with the size of modern phones.

Consistency means I always know if I've forgotten my phone keys/wallet. There's never searching or wondering where they've gone.

[–] ApplyingAutomation@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago (4 children)

My parents taught me to never keep my wallet in my back pocket due to the risk of causing back problems.

[–] Kbobabob@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I use a really thin non-folding wallet. Sometimes it's in the back and sometimes I put it in the front pocket for more security.

I've seen some of the 4 inch thick wallets that people sit on. No idea how or why.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Well, lookee here at Mr. Moneybags who actually has enough bills for that to be a concern! \s

I use a very thin bifold wallet like this (stock photo; not my ID):

Mine is currently 13.6 mm thick, folded with all my cards and stuff in it. (I happen to have a set of Vernier calipers sitting on my desk in front of me so I went ahead and measured, LOL.)

Spot on. This is EXACTLY my answer. Same logic behind it and everything.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Left, because my keys are in my right pocket and I don’t want to scratch the phone

[–] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Same. Left pocket is phone, and phone alone.

Right pocket is everything else.

[–] Mothra@mander.xyz 12 points 1 week ago

Right handed, right pocket 95% of the time. Occasionally I catch myself using the left pocket if for whatever reason storing it in the right requires an awkward movement.

[–] SippyCup@feddit.nl 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Right handed, left pocket.

When I was deciding what went where, I drove a car with actual locks and cell phones were really only for calls, you didn't spend all day looking at it. So my keys spent more time in my hands than my phone did.

Now it's a habit and I can't change it.

[–] LilB0kChoy@lemm.ee 4 points 1 week ago

Samesies. My keys always went in my right pocket so when cellphones came along that went to the left front pocket to protect it from my keys.

[–] miss_demeanour@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I use whichever pocket is handy, and I can be seen checking all my pockets every 45 seconds to remind me which pocket my phone is in, lest I need it.
Rinse and repeat.

[–] Toneswirly@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

Right handed, left pocket.

[–] ytsedude@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Car keys in right pocket. Phone in left. I think it's because cell phones weren't very common when I started driving, haha. So my keys beat my phone to the right pocket by about 2 years or so.

Wallet and Keys in left pocket, phone and everything else in right.

I never use the back pocket.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Pocket? I keep everything in a cross body bag.

[–] ApplyingAutomation@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Hmm, what size bag do you use?

This is the way. I've used a purse for years and it is so much better.

I’m the same, right handed but phone in left and use phone with left hand.

[–] supermurs@kbin.earth 6 points 1 week ago

I keep my phone in my right pocket and keys in the left pocket. I started this habit in high school in 1998 when I got my first phone and just have carried the habit along, it is the most convenient for me.

[–] PillowTalk420@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Left. Because my keys, cigarettes, and lighter are in the right and there's no more room for the phone.

[–] Jayb151@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Left handed, right pocket. Nothing else goes in that pocket.

[–] vvilld@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 week ago

Back left pocket

Left handed, left pocket, nothing else in that pocket. Sometimes left coat or jacket pocket but prefer pants.

[–] MTK@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Between my butt cheeks as it helps me stay fit by clenching my butt all day.

Also, in my roght pocket as I'm right handed and use my phone a lot.

No preferred pocket for anything. I put my phone in any pocket is easily reached with the hand is holding the phone at that moment.

Sometimes is the front pocket, sometimes is the back pocket, the pocket of the hoodie, inner pocket of the jacket, a bag, breast pocket of a shirt if it is big enough.

[–] Sixtyforce@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

I'm too inconsistent to even know what pocket it is the majority of the time.

[–] roofuskit@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Right handed, phone front left, keys front right, wallet back right. It's a perfect system. Not sure about other countries but in the US the key start is always on the right side of the steering column and I unlock doors with my right hand.

[–] Libb@jlai.lu 3 points 1 week ago

None. It's in my messenger bag, or sometimes in a small belt bag of some sort. Why? Because I don't need constantly access my phone as I seldom use it ;)

Thinking about it, I tend to keep nothing in my pockets.

[–] FeatherConstrictor@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Huh, I just considered I don't have a typical pocket I put my phone in. I'm right handed and I think I tend to put my phone in my left pocket more? Maybe? But I just took it out of my right pocket so I'm not sure.

[–] roofuskit@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Gotta ask, are you the type of person that regularly misplaces things?

[–] FeatherConstrictor@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] roofuskit@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

I see you. My best friend is the type of person who never knows where his things are, and part of that is he doesn't have a set system for where things go. My wife is the same way, but until the patriarchy puts more pockets in women's clothes she gets a pass on that one.

Right handed. My wallet is in my left pocket, since anything that I need to do with it will involve holding it with my left and doing the thing with my right.

Both my phones (home and work) are in my right, since I can carry out basic functions on them one handed.

[–] planish@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

Nice try, phone thieves.

[–] FistingEnthusiast@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Right

I'm a fan of keyless entry systems in my house, and nobody really uses cash here, so I can go out with nothing more than a phone

Right, plus car keys.

Earbud case and home keys on the left.

Whichever pocket doesn't conain the keys.

And the keys go in whichever pocket doesn't contain my phone.

Left handed, right pocket if I use pockets. One hand to hold and unlock, the other to primarily use the screen, left index, right thumb. Back in the day when my phone was smaller than my hand I would have it in my left, and use two thumbs if typing.
