As dark as it is many scientists have really thought about that.
i know of at least one academic who runs an only fans with her husband for basically this reason
Not gonna lie, every day after work as I sit in traffic I think about joining the handlers out tge window
It won't pay enough to cover your bills, but as supplemental income it could work.
Sadly if I got a single $20 bill in an hour on the road I would be quite ahead over an hour of work

This is pretty much how I left academia lol, took me 10 years to build a lab and get a tenure (european citizenship, with social benefits and stuff), regret nothing.
Wait did you quit after 10 years or did you quit and then restart
I did quit after getting PhD, which simplifies changing citizenships and getting some kind of funding a lot. Now I'm trying to figure out whether PhDs are like knights - would anyone recognize PhDs if I find a committee of 3 to grant them (I already have 2)?
I know several doctors who are going to laugh, then cry, then consider when I show them this.
