Trump said he could stop war in 24 hours, but team appears daunted by negotiation with ‘a lot of detail attached to it’

Diplomacy, it turns out, is hard. The 24 hours that Donald Trump promised he would need to halt the fighting in Ukraine have long since passed. And the administration has done little of the hard diplomatic work that was required to secure landmark deals like the Dayton agreement or the Camp David accords in the past.

Rubio clearly wished to vent frustration on Friday, a day after Trump had said in the White House that he was waiting for Russia’s response to the proposed framework for a peace deal and expected to have it this week. The White House appears to be increasingly frustrated with Moscow, something that both European and Ukrainian officials had hoped would take place.

There was always an expertise gap in the difficult negotiations over a ceasefire to the Russian war in Ukraine. Now the administration appears to have a patience gap and has signaled it is ready to walk away. Ukraine does not have that option.

“Now, I have to tell you, it’s an unbelievably complex subject,” he added. “Nobody knew ~~health care~~ peace deals could be so complicated.”

To be fair, he said the same thing when someone asked him what he thought of Sesame Street.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 week ago

Thank you for the morning lol

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 week ago

Trump fucking HATES Sesame Street because of the tiny little reference they made, like 4 decades ago...

Trump was never a master negotiator, he always was a bully. He gets what he wants through intimidation. His prior diplomatic victories were gained partly based on the work of career diplomats who paved agreements that not even he could fuck up. But all the competent people have been DOGEd away, so now it's just Trump and Elon and a bunch of sycophants who think diplomacy is throwing tantrums when the other side says "no".

[–] [email protected] 40 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It's true. Every action taken by him and his underlings have one thing in common.. They're all 8 year olds who don't understand the word, 'No'. A group of the most stunted individuals in the country who truly believe that if they just raise their voice enough, people will agree.

What's sad is how many think this is wisdom. I want off this rock.

The silver lining is that HitlerPig has has given the Gift of Competence to his enemies.

We haven't heard much at all from past presidents, past Generals, past Cabinet members, etc., but I have a very hard time believing that these guys are just sitting on their verandas, sipping drinks, and ignoring the gleeful destruction of the nation that they had dedicated their entire lives to.

More likely, they are in touch with each other, and are crafting some sort of plan/ response for when the quickly growing protests inevitably turn violent.

Fascist governments never end quietly, its always violent. None of those arrogant MAGA Nazi fucks are going to die in their sleep in their old age. Most are going to die from a bullet or a rope - if they're lucky.

Bro really thought, after everyone else involved since 2014, he could just get in the room and say:

  • "Hey, c'mon. Let's just stop this. Killing is bad, peace is good. I also want Ukraine to give up all the taken territory and I want 50% of Ukraine's minerals in perpetuity, in exchange for nothing.

  • "And then everyone clapped, and the war ended for good, just like that, with everyone happy. Zelensky hugged Putin, both kissed Trump's ring, and they shared some champagne overlooking the beautiful US Gaza Trumpland sunset, surrounded by AI bearded ladies".

  • The End.

Children raised on silver spoons often expect others to simply obey them, no questions asked.

Slow clap. He really managed to come in when Ukraine had the upper hand with allied help, weakened their efforts by humiliating, extorting and cutting off aid and intel, as well as making them lose their bargaining chip in Kursk, and now they just say "this is too much after all" and bail out.

Just to show up again at the end to claim victory after Europe and any other allies have seen this through. Mark my words.

Of course there are fucking details attached! Ukraine is quite attached to its territory and survival, Greenland is attached to Denmark, healthcare and social security, Canada and Mexico are attached to the idea of not having an asshole neighbour. It's like every situation has reasons under it, what a surprise!

Trump is a little boy who starts screaming when something doesnt go his way until everyone agrees just to make him shut up or he gets smacked by his dad. He thinks everyone is like that, even whole countries. He thinks Ukraine and Russia just had some cute little tantrums and hes the dad that smacks then into submission. Surprisingly thats not how it works.

"We abandon this task, not because it is easy; but because it is hard."

"lack of patience" is an extremely charitable take. They are lazy. They seek power for its privileges, not its responsibilities.

“Trump team reveals lack of expertise”

NO

SHIT

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

The weirdest thing is that people expected a buch of real-estate guys to somehow be good at international diplomacy.

I don't expect my butcher to also be good at cutting my hair!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I still get triggered when I hear people say they figured he would be better for the economy “since he was a business man.” Way too many people buy into the “rich therefore smart” myth.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

Yes and even if he would be smart, I know really smart people that would probably suck at running the economy. Having 0 experience doing something makes you a n00b by default.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

Someone made a comment awhile back, if international diplomacy was as easy as real estate then we would have had much less wars. It is hard, it requires specific skills, it requires years of trust building and give and take. All these idiots get is short timed wins that end up costing more in the long run.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 1 week ago

There's nothing in it for Trump. If he can't personally profit, it's a low-priority issue not worth spending effort on.

From the guy who said to drink bleach and wanted to nuke a hurricane I'm shocked /s

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

You're shocked and or shockeds?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago

Missed a space.
/s stands for "I'm being sarcastic."
Shocked can be used as a substitute for "surprised"
So I'm actually not suprised, English is crazy!

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

They never wanted peace. Trump has never tried to get a real peace deal. Putin wants Trump to deliver Ukraine's capitulation, and Trump, so far, has failed to come up with the goods, because Zelenskyy is 100 times the man Trump is, and refuses to grovel.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Is anyone surprised?

I'm at the point where serious media should just put all the lies and empty promises of this regime in a single section, titled 'From Trump world'. And use the serious sections to dissect the lies and analyse (IN SIMPLE TERMS) what's really going on.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

Especially the media from outside us

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Blast him as a failure that can't even negotiate a single peace agreement. His ego will love that; it'll definitely just allow him to move on and not stew over it for years to come.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago

I guess he meant he'll stop trying in 24 hours. Not that he ever started.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago

Amazing that they are frustrated with Moscow - they opened the negotiations with Putins maximum demands...

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

God the Trump admin is such a hot HOT mess... What did they expect? That Russia would just cave? They are so terrifyingly stupid, it genuinely makes me worried and we are only three months into his term...

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They thought Ukraine would just cave.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

Well that too. Like a country fighting for its survival and sovereignty would just give up because Trump said they should... They fought with nobody helping them in the beginning and they will keep fighting until there is no one left to fight. American help and intelligence is helpful but not decisive in whether they keep fighting. I just wish Trump would spend at least 5 minutes listening to an expert on the issue, is that too much to ask?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

The only reason Shitler wanted this deal to work was for a Nobel prize. I guess the juice isn't worth the squeeze. Still, it's small comfort knowing Obama having one while he doesn't eats him up inside

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

Waiting for a Trump quote along the lines of "negotiating peace between 2 countries is complicated.... Who knew?" like the healthcare line from his last term.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

They are MEDIOCRE

This is the Dunning-Kruger Government in action!... enjoy

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

"Expertise - and Patience - "

...i think the word they're looking for is competence...
