Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

A democracy officially becomes a dictatorship when the executive starts disobeying the legislative branch.

The US is on the knife's edge, and starting to fall on the wrong side of history.

And the price of eggs still hasn't come down...

[–] admin@sh.itjust.works 32 points 10 months ago (1 children)

But hey the Gulf of Mexico is now American.

[–] Treble@lemmy.blahaj.zone 26 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Visited the gulf earlier this year, literally reeks of death- has never recovered from BP's monumental 'oopsie' deepwater horizon in 2010. For this reason alone, I think the rebrand kinda fits.

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Then it should have been renamed "Gulf of British Petroleum."

[–] admin@sh.itjust.works 4 points 10 months ago

Gulf of Pemex

[–] InverseParallax@lemmy.world 21 points 10 months ago (3 children)

But wait, rednecks can beat brown people without repercussions right?

Becauae honestly, that's all that matters in the end.

aaaahhhhh man

[–] Mirshe@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Honestly I welcome the extermination. It might be better this way.

[–] Daggity@lemm.ee 74 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I feel like people who are targeted by the ice gestapo and bystanders need to understand that this the kidnapping is likely a death sentence and respond accordingly.

[–] pleasegoaway@lemm.ee 50 points 10 months ago

If you’re about to be kidnapped and sent to your death, might as well attack your abductors.

You’re gonna die either way.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 64 points 10 months ago (4 children)

Send the Marshalls to arrest trump. Or lose all your beloved power, SJC.

[–] SinningStromgald@lemmy.world 32 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Haven't you heard? Presidents are immune to the law. The Supreme Court said so. And since the DOJ is run by Trump sycophants any arrest order for someone in the administration will be ignored. Just like getting this guy from El Salvador will be.

The Supreme Court had a chance to rein in a possible second Trump term when they took the presidential immunity case and they fucked themselves for a couple dollars instead. Now we all reap the horrors they have sowed.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 9 points 10 months ago (1 children)

It’s not guaranteed. The Marshalls ARE the enforcement mechanism for the courts. So the court needs to issue the order, and then the Marshalls have a decision to make.

[–] NotMyOldRedditName@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago (4 children)

If the court deputizes someone since a DOJ Marshall won't follow orders, is that new deputy under the DOJ or under the court?

[–] RymrgandsDaughter@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Court they'd only deputize someone they trusted anyway

You do not understand the GOP base (ie southerners).

It doesn't matter if their family is taken, tortured and killed.

The only thing that matters is that brown people know, beyond any doubt, that they are beneath the lowest inbred redneck.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (2 children)

Trump's base is not "southerners." Trump won a whole bunch of midwestern and mountain states too, and even in the south Harris only lost by single-digit percentages.

Trying to scapegoat the south while ignoring the fascists in your own state is both bigoted and unhelpful. Do better.

[–] InverseParallax@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (4 children)

He won them.

He didn't get a ludicrous landslide of violent ... who only voted for him out of the desperate hope of getting their Jim crow back, like they've been begging for for decades and actually switched parties for the only time since the founding for.

I know my states, I'm not white and lived in the Midwest, the south, and other places.

They are not the same, they fought a war for slavery and never forgot it for 1 second.

The tragedy is their filth is spreading.

I lived in beautiful Midwestern town. Then nafta came, all the southerners who lost their textile jobs swarmed north, bringing their crime and their drugs. My town was utterly destroyed by them.

But please, go tell jews 'hey, you shouldn't be so hard on literal nazis, be better!'

And before you say another word, Hitler literally wrote in mein kampf how the south was the model Germany needed to follow, even though at their worst they weren't even close to as evil, while black GIs came home from liberating Europe, to be lynched for being uppity.

Our mistake was not giving every slave holder to their slaves, then walking away. We have been paying for that mistake for 160 years. We need a new and brutal reconstruction to finish the job.

You arrest the head of the DoJ. And any agents trying to protect him by the sheriff of whatever town they are in.

You go first, we'll follow your lead.

[–] warbond@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

You're right, it will require somebody with a lot of conviction to take such a drastic, life-altering action. It's much easier to say "just do it" than it is to say, "follow me."

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 3 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Look, I posted "somebody should do something" on a low population social media app. If that's not resisting I don't know what is!

[–] SoftestSapphic@lemmy.world 35 points 10 months ago

If you see ICE doing a kidnapping you can legally hit them with your car.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 32 points 10 months ago (1 children)

brazenly

Why is the press continuously using wording that makes this pig sound like an anti hero of some sorts?

Call him for what he is now, a dictator

The way i’m reading this - Trump is unable to do so because the US is now weak and feeble.

Clinton, Obama, Biden, maintained our geopolitical strength and would have exercised it.

(this ignores the fact that none of the prior presidents were nazis)

[–] gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world 20 points 10 months ago

Nope, that's the nonsense argument the administration is trying to push in court right now, but they're lying like usual. The US could get this man back from El Salvador with a phone call but they're choosing not to do so, continuing a long tradition of giving nonwhite people crappier legal process and fewer substantive rights that goes back continuously through several presidents. It would be great if the US was weak and feeble and unable to do things like carry out the murder of our own citizens overseas via drone strike like we did in 2011 or provide an endless stream of weapons to Israel to support the genocide they've been carrying out since 2023, but unfortunately America still has one of the most lethal fighting forces in the world.

Lock him up!

[–] Today@lemmy.world 15 points 10 months ago (2 children)

I don't understand this at all. This has been days and days and days. Why isn't there a plane in E.S. with people banging on the prison door to get this guy?

[–] Grimy@lemmy.world 23 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

Because he is dead. They put him in gen pop 3 weeks ago.

The courts already knew about him and had previously refused to deport him because he was a target for gang violence.

[–] Today@lemmy.world 11 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Yeah, we all know he's dead, but where's the push to go there and make them acknowledge it? Half of Congress is ok just pretending that he's ok and waiting for... for what?

[–] SuperCub@sh.itjust.works 5 points 10 months ago

This is the real problem. The Democratic party should whole heartedly be calling for his return, but they fucking suck.

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 2 points 10 months ago

That half of Congress isn't waiting for anything. They don't care.

[–] smol_beans@lemmy.world 12 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Because the people who run those planes don't care what happens to non-white people

[–] InverseParallax@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Because the entire republican base care very much what happens to non-white people, they need to be taught a lesson to never 'get uppity' in front of their betters again.

Betters in this case being the product of centuries of sibling rape, with a literacy rate on par with pre-school ers.
