Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Thanks, Obama

My dentist is deeply concerned about me not flossing regularly too. Same result.

[–] socialmedia@lemmy.world 65 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (3 children)

Deeply concerned. This turdbucket administration just crashed the global economy. Disappearing students was last week.

[–] socialmedia@lemmy.world 52 points 10 months ago (2 children)

When pressed for comment, trump pardoned a crypto company, hyped his 5 million dollar card with his face on it which bypasses the visa process, and gave every chemical company permission to continue poisoning everyone.

Trump is taking anyone's money he can and destroying America as quickly as possible in a way that only benefits Russia.

Fuck your concern. I'm OUTRAGED. People need to fucking find a way to fix this.

Probably American citizens

[–] Nay@feddit.nl 6 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Exactly American citizens. Sadly, too many of us are accustomed to "someone else" doing the hard work.

[–] otp@sh.itjust.works 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Well, as a Canadian, I kindly ask that y'all get your act together and figure it out! Haha

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

I wouldnt feel very safe right now if I was Canadian.

[–] desktop_user@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 10 months ago

hopefully either congresspeople or people with better aim.

[–] militaryintelligence@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

I'm with you. I am a radical

[–] morrowind@lemmy.ml 3 points 10 months ago

It's still happening, don't forget about it.

There's a major protest tomorrow. We'll see what happens

[–] fmstrat@lemmy.nowsci.com 2 points 10 months ago

"I don’t think what we just witnessed in terms of economic policy and tariffs is going to be good for America, but that’s a specific policy," Obama said in his remarks at Hamilton College in New York. "I’m more deeply concerned with a federal government that threatens universities if they don’t give up students who are exercising their right to free speech," he said.

[–] originalucifer@moist.catsweat.com 30 points 10 months ago (1 children)

obama can go fuck himself. hes one of the bullets that killed the progressive movement bernie had going that would have prevented a trump presidency.

hes a conservative that can fuck right off, you useless piece of shit.

[–] forrgott@lemm.ee 13 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I hate that there has not been a president in my lifetime who didn't commit multiple crimes against humanity; fuck Russia, Zionists infiltrated our government and did a silent coup before I was even born. Trump is as evil as they come, and yet is the logical outcome of the depravity that is rampant throughout our government.

[–] gramie@lemmy.ca 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I'm not sure there has been a president in anyone's lifetime we didn't commit multiple crimes against humanity. Roosevelt had the Japanese internment camps. Kennedy had the Bay of Pigs. Maybe Jimmy Carter was the only one.

[–] forrgott@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago

Oof. That hurts in my bones, but thank you for the candid response.

[–] NeilBru@lemmy.world 26 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

"Deeply concerned." How reassuring.

I still don't want to think he's a bad person, but for me, why he is a bad person is because zero "too-big-to-fail" CEOs went to jail during the immediate aftermath of the '08 crisis.

He could've nationalized the banks that were underwater. Even temporarily. The DoJ had ample evidence, precedent, and prosecutorial room to make heads roll. He was the one person who had power to do so. "Yes, we can!" became "No, I won't."

He's not the only one in my lifetime to screw the American people, but as a young 25-year-old man, his betrayal stung the most in the wreckage of 2008 into '09. I voted for him. I thought I genuinely liked him.

When it came down to it, he's actually like all the rest. Socialize the losses; privatize the gains.

Eat the billionaires. Sic semper tyrannis.

I liked Obama, but he (like every president) is a bad person. You cannot be a good person and be president (except for maybe Carter, but he's something else), because every president is a war criminal to some extent. Obama expanded and normalized the drone bombing of brown people and tons of other awful shit.

[–] PalmTreeIsBestTree@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

We didn’t deserve Jimmy Carter, but I am glad we had him at all.

[–] KillingTimeItself@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 10 months ago

well carter was hated, i think what you're looking for is "you can't be a well liked president, and a good person at the same time"

I think FDR might be the only exception.

[–] cabron_offsets@lemmy.world 22 points 10 months ago (1 children)

He should be calling for torches and pitchforks.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 18 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

Time for the Democrats to seriously consider furrowing a brow or two.

[–] Vari@lemm.ee 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)
[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Gonna need some funds for that.

[–] Vari@lemm.ee 2 points 10 months ago

Hmm. Better hold a meeting to determine whether or not we have the funds for this meeting. Then we can hold a meeting on whether or not to furrow our brow(s) in the face of facism.

[–] stormdahl@lemmy.world 17 points 10 months ago

Feeling "deeply concerned" seems like the extent of what the opposition in the US are capable of right now. Such a bummer to see this as a European, whatever happens in the US affects us as well, yet we have no voting rights.

[–] TheThrillOfTime@lemmy.ml 14 points 10 months ago (5 children)

Why wasn't he deeply concerned when Biden was having cops beat students?

[–] courageousstep@lemm.ee 29 points 10 months ago

I work at a university and learned yesterday that the current administration has removed the legal status of at least three of our international students…without notifying the university or the student. Just up and deleted their visas.

The government made innocent, law-abiding college students illegal for no fucking reason and didn’t tell anyone. Why do that unless you’re planning to raid their home, kidnap 18-22 year olds, and spread terror?

They are doing this all across the country. I read a Higher Ed article about it. I’m sure no university has been left untouched. Thousands of innocent people threatened with ICE raids for no goddamned reason.

Deporting “illegals” my ass. This has never been about deporting undocumented people.

I can’t say if this is objectively better or worse than what Biden did, but I do know that this is outright evil.

[–] pennomi@lemmy.world 12 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Because the markets were up, obviously

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

When you get down to it, a good chunk of American "freedom" is just another word for greed. Its woven into the fabric of what it means to be American.

(to be clear, I am American)

[–] ultranaut@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago

Maybe because Biden did not do what Trump is doing? They are very different contexts so the level of concern is going to be different.

[–] eugenevdebs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 10 months ago

Nor when Occupy Wall Street had its protestors arrested and beaten and pepper sprayed.

[–] cabron_offsets@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Ooh nice false equivalency.

[–] TheThrillOfTime@lemmy.ml 2 points 10 months ago

Americans are like abused children who get beat by both parents but they prefer Mom because she hits them less.

[–] spooky2092@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 10 months ago

I hope he's sending thoughts and prayers.

[–] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 12 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Meanwhile Obama was prosecuting journalists and whistleblowers left and right.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 8 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Yeah. To the exact extent and for the same reasons.

BOTH SIDES, GUYS! I'M SO EDGY!

[–] pjwestin@lemmy.world 18 points 10 months ago (7 children)

Nothing happens overnight, and it's not being edgy to point out how we got here. Bush got us accustomed to an unending wat on, "terrorism," Obama used drones to target terrorists in any nation without national approval, and now Trump will deport protesters for aiding terrorism and bomb Yemen over signal.

Bush attacked the Press for, "giving aid and comfort," to our enemies, Obama prosecuted leakers and publishers under the Espionage Act, and now Trump will openly bully publications he doesn't like with frivolous lawsuits and threats of prosecution. History didn't start in January.

Next week Obama will be escalating his concerns by slapping the podium while talking.

[–] barneypiccolo@lemm.ee 0 points 10 months ago

Obama capitulated to the Republican Proto-Nazis every time. He is NOT the person to lead us out of the darkness. If he led a coup, he'd put MAGA Nazis in his cabinet, just to prove there's no hard feelings.

Then they'd kick him in the nuts over and over, and he'd say Thank You.
