For a change this isn't even degenerative AI that's fucking up people's lives. Straight up facial recognition paired with rising fascism gives an innocent man, one the system acknowledges is innocent, a criminal record.

Because of AI.

Note how both the cop and the mall cop assume AI is magic and thus ignore the myriad of countering pieces of evidence.

Cops love technology like this. They can push responsibility to a piece of software and can just go “but the ai says so, I’m just following orders” and even the chief can go “it’s not their fault they got the wrong person, it’s the fault of the ai” and then continue using the faulty software.
