Every day I am forced to confront that the the Democratic Party won the White House and Congress in 2020 and instead of doing the smart thing and ending the filibuster, packing the court, and going scorched Earth on the GOP which, mind you, had just tried to overthrow the election, they kicked back and proceeded to do absolutely nothing of note except cut a blank check for the most televised genocide of the last 30 years.
A disciplined party could have un-fucked everything trump did in the span of a few month, but they chose not to. They chose not to, and now we're all paying for it.
The purpose of a system is what it does.
And yet every election, I'm told that I have to vote for them, because they are gonna fly in and save the day. I'm sure that'll happen any day now... Yup, any day now.....
No, no, they're not gonna fly in and save anything. They've basically dropped even implying they're going to do that. Now the party line is "vote for us! We'll do nothing for 4 years! That's better than actively doing bad things. Remember to vote for us again in 4 years. Or bad things!"
And the most fucked up part is that nothing for 4 years is better than active bad things. We need actual 3rd party candidates and socialists doing some real fucking organizing at the local and state levels and building a coalition. We're never going to get a viable candidate from a viable party that isn't complete dogshit in a national election if there isn't a huge movement behind them, and we're not going to get that if we don't stop pretending like it can start at the presidential level.
That said, in a solid red or blue state, get the greens or whoever over the threshold so they get federal funding. But swing state voters have a much harder choice before them.
Whole system is fucked.

Effectively, yeah. Even when they do actually do something 'good' it's only to bring things 5 degrees to the left of where Republicans moved it, which is 30 degrees to the right of where it used to be. Ratchet effect in full force. I'm not arguing for the lesser of two evils, I'm arguing for non-evil to get better at building a base outside of the main two parties. Get to a point where people actually have some local and state reps in the green party, or a labor party or whatever, and they might actually vote for them in a national election. But it'll never happen until they've actually had a chance to see those parties doing something instead of just (with the biggest fucking air quotes imaginable) """spoiling"""" the general
Voting takes less than one day. It doesn't meaningfully reduce your ability to do activism, while wasting breath on how voting doesn't matter plays into the narrative that centrists are taught to follow so they don't take you seriously, which does meaningfully reduce the effectiveness of your activism.
Every leftist who doesn't vote should be held accountable for making the country they live in so much worse than it would have been if they did vote. Not voting for Harris in a swing state is about as bad as beating up a homeless person, in terms of how much harm it has caused to homeless people.
Spend 1460 days building the new world in the shell of the old, and 1 day voting so that when they try to stop you they do so with cops rather than with the army.
You know that there are elections every year? If you are going to say that elections are the solution, you should probably advocate that people vote in more than just presidential ones.
Also very funny to say not voting for Harris is the same as beating up a homeless person as harrassing homless people was half of her job as a DA in California.
How long does voting take you that voting in all elections in 4 years takes more than a day? I figured about 1½ hours per election on average would be reasonable to pick, travel, and maybe stand in line.
And yes, of course Democrats beat up homeless people. Those people will get harmed no matter who you vote for. The question is how much harm you can prevent by voting for the lesser evil as a sidequest to dismantling the system that gives people like the Democrats power.

Does it? Tell that to the people that the "lesser evil" mass deported. Tell that to the people that died from treable diseases, because they couldn't afford healthcare. Tell that to the innocent people that the "lesser evil" blew up.
The last few times time we had "lesser evil", they spent their entire time building the infrastructure that "more evil" is currently using.
I've also noticed that every time the "lesser evil" gets voted in, it just reafirms the voters' belief that the "lesser evil" isn't going to fix anything. So those voters often end up wanting to throw the entire system away, thus giving us Trump.

And if no one voted for the "greater evil" the Democrats would have even more power and would have killed even more people
if no one voted for the "greater evil" than we would no longer need the democrats. Which is my point, we need the democrats until we can educate enough people about the "greater evil" If we didn't have the democrats, more people would be dead, and any chance of bringing change would be gone. You could be pushing for positive change instead you are crying because things are not already perfect
Why do we need the Democrats for that? What we need is an actual opposition party, not a pretend-opposition party.
Citation needed. Why would the killing stop? The Democrats kill innocent people all the time. Harris literally ran on keeping america a "deadly force".
What do you think the point of the Democratic party is? Their entire goal is to prevent change from happening, by pretending to fight against it.
I am pushing for positive change. I want a party that actually fights, which is demonstrably not the Democrats.
If you think my problem is that the Democrats "aren't perfect", then I think you don't understand my problem at all. I think blowing up innocent people, putting people in cages, electing rapists, supporting genocide, screwing over the working class is a bit different than "aren't perfect".
we need democrats because it has been shown over and over that introducing a third party simply splits the vote. unless the republicans also have a split at the same time a third party would have no chance of winning and we would just be giving the victory to the fascists.
I didn't say the killings would stop, they would be lessened, it would be best to stop them all together, but by not doing anything you are simply letting more killings happen.
Democrats are stagnation, but Republicans are regression. Letting the republicans win because the democrats aren't doing enough is simply changing things for the worse rather than not changing things at all. If you want positive change and if you want the party to fight than you need to set an example.
We get nowhere by splitting the party, that is what I am trying to say, we need to bring others in. You cannot do that by attacking people who are trying to prevent the worst from happening while yourself refusing to help because the alternative is still bad. The Democrats have issues, so it is our duty to do one of three things.
Fighting your allies only leads to the enemy winning, change cannot come from dividing the people who want change
