I love my offbranded Bell subsidiary substitute! It gives me the illusion of choice so I can feel like I am not funding Bell while still using the internet.
In all seriousness, where are we on other options? PublicMobile got bought out by Telus. Any non big telecom options for phone and internet?
I have TekSavvy internet (unless you're in their small fiber network, yes you're still using Bell/Rogers/Cogeco/Telus local lines) and my cell phone is with Fizz (flanker brand of VideoTron, which also owns Freedom, which is all owned by Quebecor).
The reality is that infrastructure is expensive to build, and the low cost resellers aren't going to be able to build their own (at least not in most places) while maintaining lower prices and some sort of a profit margin.
TekSavvy is not a reseller. They only use incumbent last-mile infrastructure. Once it's out of your neighborhood, it's their infrastructure.
I did too, but Teksavvy is trying to sell themselves off or whatever, so I moved to Park Power. Local reseller utility company (idk, their reach. Edmonton area at least. Power, gas, internet) that donates part of my monthly bill to CKUA radio. Among other options, but I like my CKUA donor supported radio.
Resellers may be some smoke and mirrors, but Teksavvy had unlimited bandwidth for 5 bux extra and wouldn't blacklist you for piracy.
However, Park Power doesn't charge extra to remove bandwidth caps. They straight up don't have any, and are pro consumer in regards to piracy.
TekSavvy and other TPIA (Third-Party Internet Access) providers are not a reseller, presumably including Park Power. They only use incumbent last-mile infrastructure. Once it's out of your neighborhood, it's their infrastructure.
TekSavvy has expressed interest in selling (it's owned by Marc Gaudrault and was previously co-owned with his brother, Rocky), but has not been sold yet.
Thanks for the correction.
Yeah I typically jump ship with any company I pay monthly as soon as they announce any potentially negative shakeups. Did the same with Public Mobile who said they were likely going to shut down under Telus, then didn't lol.
There are a few, but they're rare. I also have no idea if they're any good.

Move to Saskatchewan, sure you can see the middle of no where from here but you have real telecommunication competition with Sasktel.
