Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Sure. The same as America.
Sounds reasonable to me.
The Russia, Israel and China are all doing their genocides on a scale far bigger than what USA is currently doing.
Therefore, be careful not to make it look like "these don't need to excluded because USA isn't". Perfect is the enemy of good!
But otherwise I do agree: USA has no place in any international sports events as long as its behaving like the ass it's been for at least the past 50 years.
I'm sure Cuba thinks the blockade on it is totally fine and doesn't constitute a similar crime like Israel withholding aid to Palestinians. Or attacking a sovereign state and kidnapping it's leader. Or attacking a sovereign state and killing multitudes of civilians. And that's just the past year.
I agree Russia, China, Israel bad - but to think the US isn't so fucking far up there with them, not just now but historically, is really not giving enough "credit" where it's due.
Is your counter-argument seriously "I'll now compare Palestine to Cuba"
1- I'm not comparing, there's no comparison of a decades long genocide. I'm drawing a parallel that blockading of civilian used goods for an entire population is inherently evil/bad. It didn't all of a sudden become evil post-2023.
2- it's not a "counter-argument". Someone made an opinion statement, not an argument, and I am making the argument.
A trade embargo is not the same as a blockade.
Cuba maintains trade relations with 160 different countries. The US doesn’t prevent them from trading with other countries and doesn’t block ships to and from Cuba. They just block US companies from trading with Cuban businesses.
Nope, it's a blockade - the US seizes vessels that try to trade with Cuba. That's why it's been such big news. Have you been living under a rock?

American Exceptionalism strikes again.
You've got Americans blowing up hospitals and daycares in Iran, shooting up fishing boats off the coast of Venezuela, sieging Cuba to the point of mass starvation, and facilitating genocides from Libya to Afghanistan. But the pre-programmed western response is "I think the other countries are worse!" That's all that matters. You heard the other guys were worse.
I don't know if it's American Exceptionalism in this case so much as a failure to adjust to current year. That argument could have been made with obama-era Amereica but not today.
Barack Obama Is A War Criminal
...
...
So much of what Obama presided over was an extension of the Bush, Clinton, and Reagan policies which were themselves extensions of our wars in Vietnam and Korea. What separates Obama from Trump largely boils down to volume. But the policies were no different than Putin's illegal actions in Crimea and Chechnya. Or Netanyahu's engineered famine in Gaza and the West Bank.
yeah, what a lot of statesians fail to gather is that regardless of how our internal politics change depending on which party is in power, our international politics are generally consistent.
60%+ of Americans opposed aid to Israel during the height of their genocide, and I think 55%+? oppose the war with Iran.
It's not a true democracy (or a true republic). It's an oligarchy with a democratic theater routine which is adequately convincing to distract the majority of the undereducated public.

As I said, Americans blowing up hospitals and daycares in Iran, shooting up fishing boats off the coast of Venezuela, sieging Cuba to the point of mass starvation, and facilitating genocides from Libya to Afghanistan are such horrific things that because of them USA should be excluded from international sports events.
Facts don't care about your "I think"s. Your "I think" is an opinion. Facts are not the same as opinions. Destroying 1000 daycares is worse than destroying 100 daycares. Organizing a human safari on Kherson streets killing hundreds upon hundreds of families doing their everyday errands is worse than shooting up tens and tens of fishing boats. Etc.
Opinions the heuristics one uses when exposed to incomplete data.
Throwing out a bigger number based on the allegations of serial liars is fact-based. And continuing to trust the allegations of an organization that would flatten 100 daycares on a whim is an error in judgement.
What has USA alleged about any daycares being destroyed anywhere?
Like, off the top of my head? Officials made up a story about Iraqi soldiers murdering Kuwaiti infants in hospital NICUs to sell the 1991 Operation Desert Storm.
Okay? But in Iran USA really did that kind of shit. Or at least there have been horrendous attacks against schools.
Yup.
So we can do genocide as long as it's only a little genocide?
That wasn't a defense of the US. It was pointing out that while the US is bad, others are worse. They even closed out saying they agree US shouldn't be allowed in internationally competition. Nobody should be genociding, some are genociding harder than others, all should be banned.
How exactly is China worse than USA? Otherwise I agree.
It wasn't my claim, but I would imagine OP maybe referring to the active Uyghur and Turkic Muslim genocide. The US government and by proxy the military commit numerous atrocities. The most recent action in Iran being extremely relevant. As bad as those acts are, imo they still fall short of what Russia, Israel, and China are doing. Again, not a defense of the US, just my opinion on how those 4 nations stack up. And to reiterate, all should be banned from international events like the Olympics.
You know the Ukraine war is a US/NATO proxy war to destabilize Russia, right? You know Israel would not exist in its current state without billions of dollars and years of support from the US govt, right? Every conflict on this planet is because of the US and its desperate, bloodthirsty need to ensure every sovereign nation on the globe is in alignment with “US interests” aka upholding US hegemony and the US military industrial complex. Read “Killing Hope” by William Blum if you’re interested in learning more.
The Palestinian genocide is 100% facilitated by the governments of both the US and Israel, and also by most of the governments of Europe and the Middle East and Australia and Canada. But mainly the US and its proxy in the ME Israel!
Y’all need to learn the definition of genocide because Russia and China are certainly doing nothing of the sort. There’s a difference between war and genocide, in the case of Russia (which by all estimates has lost a hell of a lot more lives than Ukraine), and there’s a difference between cracking down on foreign-armed separatist terrorists and genocide, in the case of China. It could even be argued that Ukraine was committing genocide against ethnic Russians in the Donbas prior to 2022 as there is ample evidence.
Lastly, all of this is not a matter of “your opinion”. It’s a matter of reality and the degree to which we are able and willing to see that reality by finding accurate information outside of the overwhelming propaganda machine of Western mainstream media.
It actually is my opinion. You typed a bunch of stuff, and I'm sure you make some fine points, but at the end of the day, it's all opinion for how a person ranks bad to more bad. I feel what Israel, Russia, and China are doing is worse than the US. You feel that perhaps that's not true. We have different opinions, which is fine.
Well one of our opinions is based on reality and one is based on vibes. Seems kinda childish to base your whole political ideology on vibes that are informed by snippets of billionaire-funded mainstream media propaganda. It’s doing more harm than good.
I think Israel committing genocide is worse than the US supporting it. Both bad, one is literally pulling the trigger. I think that Russia's invasion of Ukraine is worse than the US attacks in Iran. Both bad, one has a lot more indiscriminate killing. I think the China's genocide of Uyghurs is worse than the US supporting other bad things. Both bad, one is a literal genocide.
Both opinions are based on reality. You have a hardon for hating the US so will do everything you can to paint it as the worst. I see the US as bad but not as bad as those other aforementioned countries.
You're not more right than I am, you're just more of an asshole about it. We can agree to disagree, or you can double down on why your opinion means more than literally anyone else's.
My argument is that Israel and the US are inextricably linked in a way that #1. Makes it impossible for Israel to commit genocide without the decades long financial, political, and weapons support provided by the US and #2. Makes it impossible for Israel to do anything militarily without at least some US involvement. US companies set up bases on Cypress from which they flew spy planes over Gaza. US companies like Palantir have been surveilling Gaza for years, providing information to the US and Israel which allows them to target civilians so easily. The US GHF (staffed by Americans, many of which come from an islamophobic biker gang*) took over administering aid from UNWRA in Gaza, after which GHF mercenaries terrorized and murdered countless starving Palestinians seeking aid at only a handful of aid distribution sites. Americans (and many Europeans) have joined the IDF and are on active duty in Occupied Palestine. The Biden administration broke US law to continue to provide military aid to Israel despite the US govt's conclusion that Israel was withholding aid from Palestinian civilians**. The Uyghur genocide claim is not based in reality and was a right-wing conspiracy theory put forth by a German Christian nationalist named Adrian Zenz that Trump 1.0 and Biden seized on to further imperialist propaganda against China. There was a real life violent separatist movement in Xinjiang called East Turkestan Independence Movement (ETIM) that was affiliated with Al-Qaeda that was doing violent terrorist attacks in China. China cracking down on a violent terrorist group is not equal to genocide***.
Again it's not my opinion. What you call my "opinion" is based on unbiased sources that are not propagated by billionaire-funded mainstream imperialist propaganda. If you want more sources, I'd be happy to provide them.

Where, exactly, do you think Israel's money and weapons and bombs come from?
Also, add (US Ally) Saudi Arabia to the genocidaire list, given their sponsorship of the RSF.
The Russia's money still comes mainly from EU. Funding a genocider is not equal with committing a genocide.
Yes, it is, in my morality. You are not the arbiter of morality.
There's a reason why, in regular civilian law, someone who takes out a hit is viewed as equally culpable as the actual hitman.
Also Russia gets its money from selling gas to the EU, right? And the EU would freeze without Russian gas? It's a bad situation but not equivalent to US dumping money into the fake Zionazi state solely for their shared imperial aims.
EU gets something like 5 % of its gas from the Russia. It used to get about two thirds, but that was changed during 2022 and 2023, and now our gas comes from other sources by ships.
But there's still much oil that we either allow to pass through our waters on ships that are not in the condition to traverse them legally, or by outright buying the oil through some intermediaries.
And then there are a lot of companies that merrily operate in the Russia. First two companies to come to my mind that have expanded their activities in the Russia when other companies left it, are Pepsi and Nestlé, and while neither of those is from the EU, they are good examples of what is going on. The billions that Pepsi alone pays in taxes in the Russia are extremely necessary for the Russian war effort.
And in one thing you are wrong: A murderman's landlord does not get the same punishment as the murderman, even if he has had a strong hunch that his tenant might be up to no good.
Pepsi has oddly had ties to Russia forever, and as a result, briefly had the world's six-largest Navy. Mostly obsolete shit-ships that were sold for scrap, so "superpower" in the headline is misleading, but "6th largest maritime fleet at the time" is accurate.
Anyway, capitalism is evil and major corporations are evil, and their CEOs and chief stakeholders should be tried for crimes against humanity in many cases. You'll find no argument from me there.
But EU businesses (none of which you were even able to name as chief contributors) doing business with Russia does not seem remotely equivalent to the actual government of the United States providing weapons, logistical support, and in some cases, boots-on-the-ground for the Zionazi entity's holocaust against Palestine.
For the reference, I'm American, I have no vested interest in arguing in defense of Europe lol. It's just what I see as the truth.
Good thing that's a completely inapplicable analogy then. A landlord doesn't usually pay their tenant's rent, and self-defense budget, and healthcare bills, and...
Israel is not America's tenant, it is America's child. Or if you prefer, a metastasized cancer from the same malignant source: white supremacy, colonialism, and capitalism.
Anyway, even if you somehow refuse to condemn the American Empire for their clear complicity in Pissrael's ongoing genocide, America itself was founded on genocide on a scale greater than most other genocides being named here. And they still profit from it, and still have not paid reparations for it, and still have the remaining descendants of the victims largely living in poor conditions.
On that note, add Belgium to the list too.
I absolutely do, though. It is inacceptable. (It is also inacceptable that also Finland seems to be supporting Israel more than it supports Palestine. And especially Germany's support for the genocide is horrible. They should know better! But USA is being far worse in this regard than anything in EU)
Pffft 8000 civilians killed in Iran together with their entire government doesn't even count.
That's within u/Lehmuusa's acceptable limits. Invading and kidnapping the leader of Venezuela under false pretense is just another day of the month, and blockading and starving a country for oil for no reason is just an example of how might makes right.
AFAIK we do not have verification that more than 8000 Uighurs died, so it seems to me that USA deserves to be on that list not less but MORE than China. Also I haven't heard about China bombing girls schools.
The big difference between the Chinese War on Terror in Xinjiang and the American War on Terror in North Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia is that ~~Hu Jintao~~ (he was The Good One, can't speak ill of Hu) Xi Jinping did it using the Dark Arts of Communism rather than the Liberty-imbued Democracy Bombs of Capitalism.
Therefore, every Uighur killed in a police raid on a mosque or who died in a detention camp in Loupu is worse than any ten an American killed with a Shock And Awe bombing run or tortured to death at Abu Ghraib or Guantanamo Bay.
So that 8,000 is closer to 80,000. And when you use the Black Book of Communism math to count the unborn decendents of those dead Muslims (whom we love, because Americans universally condemn all forms of Islamophobia and embrace all religions equally) we're talking about 800,000. Maybe even 8M. Certainly possible it's more than that, depending on which libertarian think tank or AI chatbot is running the numbers.
China has killed more than 100 Million Muslim Girls. Adrian Zenz told me so.
Just because you agree with the state sponsoring the genocide it doesn't make the genocide okay.
I wish people sincerely thought this way.
Yeah me too.
Instead I see people explain away China's genocide because they agree with some of their policies.
Do I detect a trace of sarcasm. 😋
Why not?
Please read the comment before replying to it. As I said, 8000 civilians killed in Iran together with their entire government is such a bad deed that USA should be excluded from international sports events because of that and other similar behaviour.
do you have any shame? or are you too deep into western chauvinism
