"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"
A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.
AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.
Application of the law is subjective. A lawyer will know when to argue against a law, argue against the interpretation of a law, and when to argue against the evidence that a law was broken.
So I don't think AI is going to replace lawyers, in the same way that AI should never replace a jury of peers, or a judge. However, I do think that AI will (technologically at least) be a great tool to help the common man understand the law and inform them before they get a lawyer involved. It will also be extremely useful for lawyers and paralegals to research previous cases.
You're exactly right.
I look forward to abusing this brave new web, by visiting WebLawMD, so that I can go into hiding for all of my perceived crimes, while i wait to die of every self-diagnosed disease.
