"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"
A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.
AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

Just gaslight their AI into refunding all your money and then give you a free subscription for life or something. They are pretty fucking stupid, and so are the people who install them so they probably have the power to do this if you fuck with it hard enough.
That sort of thing is blocked off it seems. Wouldn't even tell me the price of minecraft.
I'm pretty sure only the human workers have the authority or capability to handle refunds, the AI are only there to waste your time.
Also I'm not talking about tech support, I'm talking about when you visit a news article, a cooking recipe, or even a state run website and a circle takes up permanent screenspace and expands itself to say "HI MY NAME IS JARED HOW CAN I HELP YOU".
If we're only talking about tech support then I will never engage with the chatbot unless absolutely necessary and the entire purpose of that interaction is to be connected to a real person.
Air Canada was held responsible for their chatbot giving nonsense information.. So there is hope.
And in the end a human signed a check. The AI exists only to delay that.
EDIT: I keep thinking about how poor a response was, because the AI was responsible for promising the customer a refund against its company's policy, but the courts only forced the company to comply after a lawsuit and an average person isn't going to consistently sue corporations for refunds.
I definitely know of some companies that actually give the LLM real power
And I love them for that.
I think it's mostly internal agentic AI that has the power to change stuff. I'm not aware of any company that has a customer facing one, mainly because if there was they would be bankrupt by now from someone tricking it into "refunding" their entire liquid cash or deleting every database it can touch or something.
You know I was referencing actual events in the news, right? This shit has happened before.
