- Lemmy.world is not loading, and I am encountering an error when opening a new page.

Please start by checking the following links to see if Lemmy.world is experiencing any issues:

- I am experiencing an issue with the client I'm using.

Are you using a client other than the website itself? Is the issue specific to that client? If so, please contact the developer of the app or web client you are using.

Here are some popular apps/web clients you can reach out to:

- I am unable to create a community, and I keep seeing a spinning circle.

Please check if the desired community name is available.

- There is a community I want to moderate, but the moderators appear to be inactive.

Please email us at info@lemmy.world or create a post in this community.

- Did we defederate, or did someone else defederate from us?

Visit https://gui.fediseer.com/instances/detail/lemmy.world for information about defederation of any instance.

Alternatively check https://defed.xyz/ and enter "lemmy.world" to view a complete list of defederations.

- I cannot access my account.

For assistance with account access issues, please email us at info@lemmy.world. We cannot assist with these matters in the comments section due to privacy concerns.

- Why am I banned from this specific community?

Lemmy offers transparency, and you can check the modlog of the community to understand the reason behind the ban. If you have further questions, feel free to send a private message to one of the moderators. If you have other issues, please email us at info@lemmy.world.

- Can this feature be added to the website?

If you would like to request a feature to be added to Lemmy, please contact the Lemmy developers on GitHub or reach out to the developer of your preferred (web) client. Instances like ours cannot directly add features to the website.

I would like to take over the !falcons@lemmy.world community. I'm a huge Atlanta Falcons fan, and I would love to mod that community and try to kickstart it into some activity. I see that there is only one mod listed, and he has not been active on Lemmy in 2 years.

What do I need to do?

All systems seem operational per status and dash, but I have been unable to access page 2 and beyond on All sorted by New. I get flashing placeholders on the website, I get the error 'timeout' on my Android app (Boost).

What I've tried:

  • sorting New on All with an account from another instance (no timeout there)
  • sorting by something different than All (no issues)
  • logging out and back in again (timeout again)
  • trying a guest account (timeout again)
  • completely reset the app

Anyone have any idea what I can do to fix this?

I just threw in my support with a small recurring donation. I've been here for 2 years and realized I should support the alternate future I want to see grow. I've been slowly working on taking ownership of my data back from the behemoth corporations one service at a time. Supporting Lemmy and the Fediverse is in alignment with those values.

If you are like me and usually here just lurking then consider making a post, a donation, or both!

Oh, and Happy New FediYear!!

I created the shavian community yesterday to allow users to practice writing with the Shavian alphabet. This means that content is written in English with a non-Latin alphabet.

Even though I haven't told anyone about the community yet, there has been some traffic: I think my posts so far are being served in a feed somewhere. This is not desirable: a general user would not want to see post titles with unrecognisable characters in their feed.

Is there a way to hide a community from feeds? I found this post about hiding a community, but I don't know if this is possible on lemmy.world.

I will never, ever, support hostile actors such as Dessalines, and neither should any of you.

They're supporters of Russia's war, they're transphobes, and they're pro-genocide tankies.

I might be able to answer my own question here.

Edit: Looks like it doesn't play unless I tap on it to open. Did I do something wrong or is that just a feature of Lemmy?

Posted here 14 / 15 days ago with requests for those subreddits. Admins have ignored my request but responded to requests by others made more recently.

At least give me a "no" if it's a no, please. My account here doesn't have a ton of activity, but my u/7101334 account on Reddit is very active. I want to use Lemmy more and Reddit less, but if there's an apparent stigma towards drug users here, let me know so I can pass and keep looking for a better place.

There are multiple account with username format FuckYouDavrielleLouna## that have been downvoting posts.

Either this user needs to be banned or lemmy.org needs to be defederated. Someone tried to contact their admin but they seem inactive.

EDIT: looks like one batch of the accounts is already banned. They keep making more.

Saw someone posting in some community about votes & comments not appearing. Rechecking some posts I saw comments appear some 3 hours later. Afaik there was no lemmy server downtime. Anyone else experiencing similar (delay) issues?

Like many people, i get more focused than i'd like to on the vote score of posts and comments. Not just mine, everyone's. Having a setting somewhere to hide those would be great.

Or failing that, what should i add to uBlock Origin's filters to have it hide them? That would even work for people who don't have accounts.

For the curious, lemmy.world##.post-score.text-muted.pointer.unselectable works to hide the score of a post, but not for comments. lemmy.world##.unselectable works for comments but also hides some stuff besides just votes.

It has no moderators at all despite still being open to posts. Pretty dead but maybe I can make it not-dead. Trying to make a little network stemming out from !drugs@lemmy.world if that request is approved.

Sourcing - even sourcing legal cannabis, even federally legal like Delta-8-THC - would not be allowed. I would try to find some additional mods from the active users.

I've been a member of drug discussion boards for over a decade and have a pretty good understanding of what's legally allowed (basically any discussion short of step-by-step synthesis instructions) and what's not (sourcing any drugs, even 'grey area' ones).

!drugs@lemmy.world is shut down because...

This community is participating in a blackout against Lemmy for allowing free access to their API with no charge, rendering it affordable for third-party app developers to continue their services. The lack of prohibitive cost makes it easy to mod from mobile, promotes innovation, and gives unlimited user choice, and effectively opens up a significant portion of the culture we’ve all come to appreciate. Indeed, every third party app developer on Lemmy made essentially the same statement: “I don’t have to shut down the app.” Apps can also show ads which is a primary source of revenue. So not only do they not have to pay exorbitant fees, they can even mitigate those fees with ads.

And the current mod is inactive, and has been for 2 years now. I'd like to be made mod there and appoint other mods from active users in the community, considering the sub was pretty active before it got locked down.

Hi mods.

I've created a full-featured web tool (runs on localhost, uses the Lemmy 0.19 API) with many "quality of life" features and excellent UX for community moderators. I am myself the mod of /c/comicstrips, and because I receive a considerable amount of reports, I had to create something to make my life easier.

The tool handles all my use cases and I think it's stable enough to open source it so other moderators can benefit from it.

I wasn't sure if I could show it here, in this community, so I'm asking first.

See title.

The same person creates a new account every few hours, posts a bunch of stuff, and self deletes. They've been doing it for months or more.

I get you can't just patch the software to limit deleting, but maybe run a script to detect deleted accounts. If they're less than 6 hours old, ban with content removal?

Edit: Apparently, shortly after posting this, federation from Lemmy.World stopped to my home instance and it's now well over 100,000 activities behind. I guess that's something 😆

Here's a very non-comprehensive list of the ones I've seen:

Hey folks, is this a new interpretation of Rule 3 in /c/selfhosted? We've had a lot of threads about storage, pools, filesystems, hardware related to self-hosting over the years and they've been plenty useful for me. I've also helped people with such issues when I had the expertise.

Today I asked a question related to filesystem setup for a server and that post got removed citing Rule 3. I looked at the modlog and it appears a few other posts have been removed too. Is this right?
