Also, many other countries were fairly enthusiastic about the Nazi regime

I think most countries in the world (have) had political parties or factions which were fascists or sympathetic to them in the 1930's. I mean, also in the Vatican for example.

Found some incomplete wiki list.

There are thousands more in European military, politics and other institutions that are loyal to the US more than the EU.

There is alot to be discovered and said about this comment.

I'll start by commenting it's part of a mindset, belonging to people who have been culturally ingrained by a 80 years plus US military presence. In a similar fashion as Central Europe needed to come free from USSR, the Western part is now going through a parallel process with the USA. It could be part of a growing " independence" movement, with a maybe a new (European) core identity at heart.

that's insignificant.

Sorry, but she comes across as a narcissistic person. Probably you have guessed that already. Won't change your day to day reality, but it helps you when you are establishing your own interpersonal boundaries and contactmoments (small#E).

It's his job to believe in NATO. Doesn't mean we also have to.

Exactly, it's our job as European to see that our security interests are adressed, (in) directly and amongst others, by Nato’s SG Rutte.

Also, there are several layers at play here;

  1. We need the US security umbrella and trade

  2. Even if we don't need it, you can't simply say " no" to the biggest economic military force in the world.

  3. When we are pressured by the East and West simultaneously, you need some real balancing act to remain in the field

  4. Rutte , other senior leaders & US senators, have offsite assured us, that Trumps frontpage politics are more of an internal domestic national electoral compaign. Like many say in the US say It's all deflection from Epstein files and other stuff.

  5. If anyhting is clear about Trump, it's that he's a liar and is untrustworthy.

  6. He has factually oftentimes illegally abused his US executive Powers in the USA with ICE.

  7. Internationallly, he's threatened Greenland, Canada, Panama etc, created an unconstitutional system of Tariffs.

  8. Recently, under his orders like a 100 poeple were executed in international waters, and per yesterday he suddenly bombed Isis camps in Nigeria

  9. Trump associates with known sexual predators, autocrats, war criminals, etc. And denies or sabotage the freedoms of his democratic opposition (and his own allies & partners#added)

In conclusion: Imo , Nato's SG Rutte statements are most likely either a redirection of Trump's lies, and partly it's his own manoeuvring for his own Political position. Personally, neither motivations are especially comforting. But at least it appears that Rutte's buying time, until we as EU and Friends can find an adequate solution which is being established by bilateral new security packages with countries like Canada, UK, Japan, Taipei etc.

Just found this great quote in the article: Michel Duclos, a former senior French diplomat (..) said:

“Dmitriev celebrated in Miami, Breton denied US visa: Europe is becoming the new Russia for Washington. It brings to mind the 1920s – America favouring the former enemy [Germany) against its former allies – but worse.”

The EU really should.

The European Commission and Japan have successfully concluded negotiations on Japan's association to Horizon Europe, the EU's flagship €93.5 billion research and innovation funding programme. The agreement, expected to be signed in 2026, represents the closest form of collaboration offered by the EU to global partners in this field. It will enable Japanese researchers to lead and coordinate their own research and innovation projects under the programme, to apply and receive funding, and to seek closer collaboration with partners in the EU and other associated countries.

Don't know how it went down in Sverige. But they might un- decide their choice for Ofiice 365, if enough public, and or like you suggest EU, pressure is given. Tbh, need to check my own Gvement though. But afaik in the NL, the Dutch Cloud was sold off to an US Cny. Hopeless situation too .

Add: the NL Gvement has plans

"The Cloud Acceleration Team operates with 1 central mission: to develop a sovereign cloud infrastructure for the entire government"

EU Commission praises iOS 26.3: Apple opens wearable interfaces thanks to DMA

With iOS 26.3, something is happening, especially with wearables. Manufacturers in the EU can now test proximity pairing and better notifications, according to the Commission. Proximity pairing means what AirPods users already know: bringing earplugs or other devices close to iPhone or iPad, pop-up appears, tap once, and you're fully paired. The previously common click orgies through Bluetooth menus are intended to be eliminated for third-party providers.

The EU has formal security and defence partnerships with Australia, Japan and South Korea, and in 2020 signed a broad “strategic partnership” with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations regional group, which includes co-operation on counterterrorism and maritime and cyber security.(..)

Kallas said the EU was “not the traditional security actor”, but Asian countries had been raising the possibility of working with it on issues such as maritime security, freedom of navigation and cyber security.(..)

“China is telling us that they want to be good partners and they are interested in our partnership,” she said. “If you want to have a partnership, then you also listen to the worries that the other side has.” Arch

Pim De Witte, founder of General Intuition and Medal.tv, turned down a deal reportedly worth $500 million from OpenAl, and instead raised $134 million to build an Al lab rooted in games, not words.

Context; EU AI Startup " While most 2025 AI and robotics rounds reported by EU-Startups have ranged between €3 million and €12 million, General Intuition’s raise underscores a sharp contrast in both scale and ambition – particularly notable given its early stage and cross-continental structure spanning New York and Geneva.

“When you play video games, you essentially transfer your perception, usually through a first-person view of the camera, to different environments,” added de Witte. “You get this selection bias towards precisely the kind of data you actually want to use for training work.”

BRUSSELS ― A summit of EU leaders Thursday will test whether the bloc will hold together — or whether Donald Trump can divide it.

A high-stakes disagreement between European governments on using Russian assets frozen since Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine to fund the county’s rebuilding lays bare a deeper division across the continent over how to deal with a new world order and unprecedented pressure from the U.S.(..)

The American influence campaign that has seen Trump administration officials bypassing Brussels and backchanneling with capitals has led to Italy, Bulgaria, Malta and Czechia joining the group of dissenting countries.

In a high-security Shenzhen laboratory, Chinese scientists have built what Washington has spent years trying to prevent: a prototype of a machine capable of producing the cutting-edge semiconductor chips that power artificial intelligence, smartphones and weapons central to Western military dominance, Reuters has learned

Completed in early 2025 and now undergoing testing, the prototype fills nearly an entire factory floor. It was built by a team of former engineers from Dutch semiconductor giant ASML (ASML.AS), opens new tab who reverse-engineered the company's extreme ultraviolet lithography machines or EUVs, according to two people with knowledge of the project.

More than a third of Tuvalu citizens have entered the ballot for a world-first climate visa which would allow them to permanently migrate to Australia.
