Was looking at .world while logged out to find some communities to sub to, and noticed that aljazeera@rss.ponder.cat is not coming up while logged in. I can see bbc@rss.ponder.cat, but I can't find the aljazeera community and if I go to a profile that posts on it I see other posts, just not posts in that community. I have not blocked any users or communities. Is this possibly a reddthat thing? This does not appear to be an issue on non-reddthat accounts.

Thank you!

Hi, is everything all right with the server? I see a low number of posts and comments. For example, in this community, I see only 2 posts and 0 comments, but the numbers suggest otherwise. I also noticed that someone wrote to me, and I can see the message, but I can't see the comment under the post, so I can't respond.

I tested it on Boost, Voyager, and the website. It works fine when I am not logged in. This is my newly created account.

Never mind. I don't want to deal with it. I got excited for a little, but after sitting on it for a while, I realize that I rather not. Sorry and thanks!

Hey all, I created a logo for !womenshockey@reddthat.com and uploaded it, a few days later it was gone. So I did it again. And this morning it is gone again. I have looked via my home instance, Sopuli as well as a guest on reddthat.

The image is a ~~jpeg~~ png that is 498x498px and 17kb. I cannot imagine this is too large of a file.

Any idea what I am doing incorrect? I have used files of similar sizes for the other communities I mod without issues.

Any time I get hurt/angry/let down by her, she "didn't know what to do."

"I want to help you, really, I just don't know how your mind works. I don't know what will make you angry. I don't know what you need in the moment."

I wind up with a whiteboard in her living room like Bernie before congress showing her what she did, why it's wrong, what to do next time.. and I'm just tired. I always have to put in the work to get treated right.

Everyone tells me to leave, but I don't want her to have nothing.

Sorry for venting. I'm just asking to be heard, right now.

Whilst the game does look nice, I enjoyed the site's little mini game/challenge

Our proxy in Amsterdam has a reddthat.com SSL certificate.

It didn't renew correctly.

We are investigating

I noticed that a lot of the posts from Lemmy.World are showing with few or no votes, and often no comments. Going to the actual post shows votes and comments.

Did something change with how we/they sync up?

Recent events over at lemmy.world have got me thinking, and I wanted to see what the community here are reddthat.com thinks.

Most details are available at the lw admin team's latest post. TLDR A discussion about whether a vegan cat diet was viable started at c/vegan. An admin banned some comments and removed a moderator of the community. LW updated their TOS with a section about misinformation. The admin actions were reversed.

(Probably, I am misrepresenting the situation, read the link before taking up arms)

While, I prefer to enter my own opinions in a comment, I would like to add some questions to frame the discussion:

  1. What do you the new section about misinformatiom? Do you think reddthat needs one?
  2. What do you think about how the situation was handled by the LW admin team?
  3. Given that LW is the biggest lemmy instance, how do you think these changes will influence smaller instances like reddthat?
  4. Do you have any other take aways from this? Or any other questions?
  5. (bonus) Isn't it hilarious that lemmy has its own tea (=gen z for drama)?

What are you, inspired by YouTube? This is the dumbest shit I've seen in a hot minute. You wander through other communities/instances that support down votes but you see a deranged world. People downvoted to hell and back are right alongside good posts. It absolutely only elevates misinformation. Delete my account, it's useless without down votes.

Has anyone else been getting long page load times (like ~10 or more seconds) frequently but intermittently over the last couple days?

Far too often, lately, I see lots of people worried about the number of downvotes, or making preliminary justifications and requests to not downvote particular posts.

Me? I don't have to think about any of that. The content of the posts and comments determines their quality, not some artificial number that only represents whether people dis/like something.

Edit: Wow, a lot of people from other instances seem really offended that I don't like downvoting and seem a bit confused that I'd be thanking my admins for something I appreciate.

If you like downvoting, you don't have to move here. Enjoy your instance's features. Welcome to the Fediverse.

My only conclusion is is that some banks use some feature built in PDF Readers to prevent the printing of a PDF, by covering parts with black bars.

The issue does not appear when using other software like Adobe Reader or Microsoft Edge, to print the PDF.

Is this a form of DRM? I want to know how it works whatever is causing it, and be able to remove it from the PDF itself completely.

Why does Firefox obey this DRM crap, while Edge has the balls to ignore it?

Hey Reddthat mods,

Is there a mechanism to report entire communities? I found one that appears to be

trigger warningpro-pedophilia
but it's the lone mod doing the posting, so sending a report will likely be ignored.

It's a community on this instance.

I've mostly been using the Sync app (which shows a downvote option everywhere), so I didn't notice the lack of downvoting until I was spending a lot of time on desktop yesterday and saw there are actually no downvote buttons anywhere ๐Ÿ˜ฎ on Reddthat.

I've since tracked down what seems to be the Reddthat policy discussion around this issue, which also made clear that even if I downvote content from another instance through a 3rd-party app like Sync, because I'm doing it from an account on Reddthat (which has downvoting disabled), my downvote doesn't go through!

This sucks. ๐Ÿ™ Downvoting is an essential tool for users to help keep their communities on-topic and discourage bad behavior. It lets people take action against ignorance or bigotry without feeding the trolls; minimize people trying to derail discussions or be obnoxious in the comments; and prevent memes, sensationalism, and low-effort posts from flooding communities meant for thoughtful discussion.

It's unfortunate that lemmy doesn't support disabling downvotes just within specific communities yet, so this wouldn't have to be such an all-or-nothing policy, but as-is this means making Reddthat my home instance has restricted my options and given me less of a voice everywhere within the lemmyverse.

@ticoombs@reddthat.com, is there any chance this policy will be reconsidered? So many comments in the previous discussion seemed to agree that downvotes are a valuable and desired feature. It doesn't seem like that feedback has resulted in any kind of policy change yet though. Was a specific decision made after that discussion to keep voting disabled, or has it just been stuck in a wait-and-see state? Would it be possible to change this?
