HEADS UP. Public response just went out. Please help signal boost this by sharing a post for your followers or resharing 50501’s post on your preferred platform(s)—

We have reason to believe that events on 4/19 and/or the 50501 Movement may be misrepresented by the Trump Administration in an attempt to justify the use of military force.

Let us be clear: our movement is pro-democracy and firmly grounded in non-violence. We are not affiliated with any so-called “Day of Rage” or with any group or movement promoting violence.

April 19 is a Day of (Community) Action centered on mutual aid, community care, and civic engagement.

Any portrayal to the contrary is a deliberate distortion intended to undermine our message and suppress our broad, growing support.

We are aware of specific and credible threats involving aggressive policing, ICE presence, and even the potential deployment of military force against peaceful demonstrators—in Washington, D.C. and other locations on April 19.

For clarity: 50501 DC is hosting a peaceful community aid event in Franklin Park. We are not connected to any actions taking place at Lafayette Square, the Naval Observatory Building, or the Washington Monument. We cannot vouch for their safety of plan, and we are not affiliated with their protests.

Participants should be prepared for an increased law enforcement presence. In some locations, ICE agents may also be present. We urge everyone to stay grounded, remain peaceful, and prioritize de-escalation and safety for all.

Remember, de-escalation, mutual care, and disciplined non-violence are our greatest strengths.

We keep us safe.

so happy for liberals on the internet to finally have their own thought terminating cliche in "tankies", the jealousy for "woke" must have been overwhelming

insomuch as USAID was a tool for exerting soft power by lifting up global communities and spreading goodwill for America through humanitarian effort, I support what it was, I didn't want to see it gutted. insomuch as China is exerting soft power by building infrastructure and investing in industry, it'd be nice to see the US exert a little soft power against us citizens from time to time.

In practice they have been pretty hands off as they develop the global south afaik.

They're also only doing it for its resources, I think you could realistically assume, but it can't be denied that their approach has brought much better results than America's so far.

It's weird that nobody even considers systemic change as a possibility anymore

I mean obviously we'll need to hold another election before we can get somebody else in there and even see an opportunity, but if actual accountability were implemented that targets this, if citizens united would stop leaking billionaire influence into our groundwater, you COULD restore faith in America.

I guess the issue is, how possible is any kind of anti-oligarchism policy, when they hold the whole government? And once, IF, we get the chance, is there anyone with the competency to get it implemented? Or will we blow it like we have every time since the reconstruction?

To police something so personal as gender expression is anti-American. Obviously if you care so much about people's private lives as to make it a part of your personality, you would have to be a huge piece of shit.

I rather think that's why they're made the outgroup du jour, people were too accepting of and familiar with LBG people, so they said let's narrow WAAAAAAY down to the Trans people and divide and conquer the marginalized groups

local tyrant shoots self in foot, claims trade deficit with guns

[–] [email protected] 48 points 2 weeks ago

I'm announcing 104% tariffs on wal-mart due to their frankly insane trade deficit with my family: they refuse to buy ANYTHING from us, and you think we're just supposed to take that lying down???

(/s you gotta laugh to keep from crying)

What I hope happens is we oust him and do some serious work on our systems that prevents stuff like this.

Though the track record of our leaders is pretty depressing, maybe they're starting to wake up now that we get to see Endgame Capitalism

All he has succeeded in doing is violently ripping the US away from its place at the center of the global hegemony.

Which is not great for those of us in the US, but honestly had to happen, the rest of the world clearly cannot depend on us. Our entire political system is built on honor systems and pinky promises, the rich can do whatever they please and never see accountability.

I think the show Arcane is one of the best examples of commercially released art in recent decades; interestingly, what happened is people actually accused it of using AI where there was none. Also Variety et al did a whole round of balking that anyone would invest in something so frivolous as serious animation for adults

There's always gonna be Capitalists who try and commodify art, but fundamentally humans are the the only ones who can make NEW insights that resonate with people RIGHT NOW. If AI IS ever able to observe the world and reflect on it and offer something new, in the way humans are, it would still be from their own perspective, not ours.
