Just saying this because if you spend even 5 seconds thinking about it, how would you scientifically measure attention span? You probably can't because its impossible to track peoples thoughts. There's lots of interesting attempts but they kinda suck, like measuring how often workers switch windows at work.

I'm not the other person, if it's conflicting then idk what to tell you. I work in security, but I'm not the biggest expert on proton. I know enough to understand it's not an emulator, it's a compatibility layer, and that means it runs the code that was written to the best of it's ability, on your hardware. Happens to run as you. You're having a go at the environment, i.e. the packages and software that makes the game run, for the actions you and the game developers made. Don't run spyware if you don't like spyware, or run it elsewhere.

Can the games scan your drive where your user can navigate? Yes, they have to. Can they see other programs that are running? Yes, they have to. Can they read, edit and make changes? Yes, they have to. Can they capture input in other software? Not unless you're on Xorg, then probably. Can they make web requests and send your data outside the machine? Yes, obviously they have to.

Why would you make this a proton/wine convo when you are clearly unhappy with the practices used by the companies making the software. This isn't about the compatibility layer you're using, reframe your thinking. If you ran malware, Proton would say "yeah sure bud let me get that for you" and would run that shit. Proton isn't an antivirus or a security tool.

Also, privacy and security are completely different. Privacy is the right to not be observed, think anonymity. Security is the control of access, think authentication and authorisation. If you're attempting to run software on your user account, you've authorised it to run as you. Therefore every action you do that doesn't require a password is possible, if improbable. But yeah, they can see other open software, it can view your files and it can see your hardware. It needs to. It's a compatibility layer. It's still just software you ran on your machine.

I repeat, if you run spyware, you get spyware. You've just given it the tools to work cross platform.

Solar is cheaper, requires a sponge and detergent for maintenance, and has an approximately zero percent chance of blowing everything around it into a radioactive hell. You build it and it sits in a field. Far less susceptible to incompetence or systemic failure.

It also takes like a decade to build a nuclear plant. Over a decade you could produce shit loads of energy off solar. Wind too if you want to go crazy but y'all would see one ai gen video of a bald eagle getting killed by a turbine and call them communist or something.

Overwatch the video game. TF2 felt better in every way - no I didn't play the original team fortress. I never felt good playing the overwatch, never cared about all the backstory considering it had no standing on the game whatsoever - I'm sure they'll add a campaign some day though. The mechanics felt so floaty and slidy, and I never felt like my hits registered at all. The community sucked even more because everyone was "one game off going pro" because they got a cool kill 10 rounds ago. Rocket league was less toxic and that's saying something. Oh and sooo repetitive. I hear the irony of comparing it to rocket league then saying that, don't worry.

I'll take the low blow and say Blizzard can get fucked as a company too, I'd be happy if they went bankrupt tomorrow. They're like the worst of the worst in the video game industry.

Never attribute to malice what incompetence can explain, or however that goes. Except for YellowKey. That was obviously a backdoor to get into bitlocker encrypted drives for either higher-upper law enforcement or their intelligence agencies. No one has presented another explanation that makes sense.

It's more that it adds to the statement that Microsoft are a marketing company that happens to market software. They're more focused on profit and they benefit from there being less zero days in the media, so they do everything they can to not have cves flying around while also doing the least amount of work possible.

Whatever is dropped in July is going to be interesting though, it's been very hyped up.
