The company owns the whole characters but yes, they usually reach a level of popularity where, even without explicitly stating it before leaving, they can just start streaming independently with a different character and a good chunk of the fanbase will still find and follow them again.

The company doesn’t even seem to be against it actually, and afaik one time where they had to terminate a talent for breach of contract, they pretty much encouraged her to start streaming again as an indie and wished her good luck.

We can’t really know anything about the company’s direction, just assuming that “it’s not good for the talents” is a bit much, especially considering that “this has happened enough” with:

-Mumei, who has throat issues and irl things to sort out

-Gura, who has been on the verge of graduating for the past 2 years and was very clearly dealing with burnout

-and Ame, who also was close to burnout issues, and is still struggling with them even as an indie.

I could understand the narrative 4 months ago, when Fauna graduated seemingly out of nowhere and it looked like Ame would start streaming regularly as an indie, but those two recent EN graduations were really nothing too surprising, and with Ame’s recent post it’s clear that her issue wasn’t with Hololive specifically either.

Of course again, we don’t know anything for sure so it could definitely be true that the company had a massive shift, talents are pissed and the ones still left are just bearing with it for one reason or another, but acting like it’s clear that Cover is 100% in the wrong brings nothing useful to the table.

Hololive as a whole, no one really knows. There’s been a shift in direction and some talents mentioned disagreements with management and company direction as reasons for graduating/leaving, but no one really knows what it entails, except of course the company growing to be much bigger than any of them ever imagining 4+ years ago.

People (me included) were sort of expecting this for Gura since in recent years she was one of the talents which streamed less in general due to burnout and whatnot, and it’s been clear for a while that, for an introverted person with a good degree of anxiety, being literally the most famous vtuber in the world was taking a toll on her.

I remember talks of “Gura’s about to graduate” since 2 years ago if not more, it’s a wonder that she managed to keep going for so long.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 18 hours ago

Yup, this is the most clear of explanations. You can see how among the first two gens, the 5 talents left are all either Japan-based, or used to flying/traveling.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 18 hours ago

Sorry but this comes off as very conspiracy theory-ish.

First, Brave’s circumstances are much different from Cover’s, and you’d be crazy to stealth-terminate someone and then give them 14+ days to yap about it. The only occurrences that smelled a bit of termination were Magni and Vesper’s, but looking at their PL even those seem like genuine graduations, albeit definitely less amicable.

Second, the idol narrative has already been debunked multiple times, it was one thing when it was just Ame, but Fauna stated bluntly that she liked it and now Mumei and Gura were two of the most Idol-invested talents in EN. At most, I can see the Japan trips starting to take a toll, considering how all the recent 4 EN graduations were US-based talents with a limited knowledge of Japanese.

Third… I don’t even know how to answer the autism narrative. If they wanted to get rid of neurodivergent-seeming talents they’d have to fire 90% of the whole company. And I mean, you’re telling me they’re trying to avoid normalizing neurodivergence in the same 12 months where they hired Gigi Murin?

If this is what we all think it is, we’ll have had as many graduations in these 9 months as in the 6 years before them.

And it’s good that none of them have been terminations but still… man.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

Definitely not an understatement, putting up a puppet show for her anniversary is such a Korone thing to do lmao

Waiting for some clips to understand the MC sections better, but even with my limited Japanese I absolutely enjoyed it more than enough. Never change, you finger-extorting doggo.

I haven’t (recently) paid attention to the viewership numbers, but that music success doesn’t seem to create stream viewership is something I hadn’t really expected. I guess that means a lot of the (music) success is coming from “outsiders” who either don’t know about the streaming side or simply aren’t interested in it. Interesting either way!

This is something I noticed with Suisei too, she had a gigantic popularity boost with Bibbideba but her viewership numbers (even from karaoke) haven’t really benefited that much. Seems like they both managed to capture a good chunk of audience that isn’t really interested in streaming, but still likes their songs enough to follow them, which as you said, is good in its own way.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 days ago

Man, she really is the definition of “the grind never stops” lol. Though she seems way more satisfied with her work than in the past, so that’s good. If you can find a good balance between being appreciating your current works and striving to keep doing better, that’s definitely the best of both worlds.

No worries Shiori, Alfredo isn’t even that common in Italy, I’d rank this pretty low on the pasta crime chart.

Just make sure that there isn’t any Ketchup involved and that no spaghetti are broken… or else.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 days ago

Huh, didn’t realize it was still ongoing (and I think it’s the longest Holomanga so far? It has 34 chapters while Yamato still only has 29, though I’m not sure about chapter length, or if it’s finished, since it hasn’t released chapters in a while).

Cool that, from what I’ve read, they actually implemented their graduations in the plot, I’ve skimmed through the Underworld manga and I think they didn’t give a reason for Mel suddenly disappearing there.

(And on a side note, man I really like FBK’s outfit in this)

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 days ago

Yeah, I figured by her streaming frequency that she didn’t fully recover from her semi-burnout, hopefully this time she takes the time she needs (and sees a professional if she wants to, that’s always useful even just for sorting out your thoughts!)

〈HoloLive member: Shirakami Fubuki〉

This time, four of us, including Shirakami Fubuki, Houshou Marine, Tsunomaki Watame, and Otsuki Maki, sang "We Go!" from "SPECIAL EDITED VERSION ONE PIECE Fishman Island Arc"! I still can't believe that we, the Hololive members, can hear our singing voices from the "ONE PIECE" anime. I feel very honored to have been given this opportunity, and I am proud to have been involved in a work that I love.

〈HoloLive member: Takanashi Kiara〉

Kikkeriki! I'm Takanashi Kiara from Hololive English -Myth-. I'd like to comment on behalf of my friends Hakos Baelz and Kobo Kanaeru! It's a dream come true to be able to participate in such a wonderful project. This is a great milestone for us as it is the first time that the three of us have sung for an anime. We are so honored to be singing with the legendary Hiroshi Kitadani for our Hololive English/HoloLive Indonesia version! I hope that everyone will enjoy our version of "We Go!" among the many versions out there! The recording was so much fun and I can't wait to hear everyone's reactions.

〈Hiroshi Kitadani〉

This is the first time we've recorded this song that we've been singing in various places and situations for 14 years! And it's a collaboration with everyone at Hololive! While there are parts that are arranged in a pop style, there are also parts that are energetic and powerful and have a strong nuance, so please enjoy the new "We Go!" with stronger nuances!

〈Maki Otsuki〉

This time, we had the opportunity to collaborate with everyone at Hololive for the first time with "We Go!" I was also very happy that it was arranged by Mine Kushita, who I haven't seen in a while! From the cute singing voice, Nun! Otsuki will appear like the final boss, so please look forward to it~ (laughs)

I'm honored to be able to work with Otsuki Maki and all the Hololive members! This time, we've packed in a lot of different instruments and sounds as a special version of the great song "We Go!" from "ONE PIECE". I hope you'll listen to the full version!

I teamed up with tepe to create a dramatic arrangement full of adventure. The cute singing voices of the Hololive members and Kitadani's overwhelming vocals combine to create a world view that will instantly draw you in. The sound is sprinkled with exciting gimmicks that you can discover every time you listen, so please enjoy it to the fullest.

It's really like a dream to be involved with "ONE PIECE", which can be said to be the bible of my life. This time, I teamed up with TeddyLoid to update the song without forgetting to respect the original song. It's packed with a lot of sounds unique to "ONE PIECE", so be sure to check them out. People's dreams never end!!!

Italy's President Sergio Mattarella has told Elon Musk to stop interfering in the country's politics, after the tech billionaire criticised an Italian court for blocking the transfer of migrants to detention centres in Albania built through a controversial immigration deal.

Musk, who has been picked to jointly lead a new "Department of Government Efficiency" by US President-elect Donald Trump in his incoming administration, wrote on Tuesday on X that "these judges need to go".

He was referring to judges in Rome who had ruled against Italian PM Giorgia Meloni's initiative to outsource the processing and detention of some asylum seekers to Albania.

In a later post, the Tesla owner wrote: "This is unacceptable. Do the people of Italy live in a democracy or does an unelected autocracy make the decisions?”

Thought it might be interesting for someone since she did a karaoke a week ago and sounded… familiar, you know.

Once again, thanks to everyone who contributed!

Italy’s parliament erupted into violence on Wednesday when a lawmaker was attacked while trying to hand an Italian flag to another MP over a local government bill.

According to local media, the lawmakers had been discussing a bill on so-called differentiated autonomy, introduced by the right-wing government of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

The draft law calls for Italy’s individual administrative regions to be given wider rights of self-governance, which the Five Star Movement is against, fearing it will lead to the “disintegration of Italy.”

During the ensuing brawl, Donno was knocked to the ground and later taken to hospital in a wheelchair.
