This is one if my favorite fixes. Capacitors are significantly cheaper than a new air conditioner, easy to test with the right multimeter, and so easy to replace that most people could do it with minimum research.

Oh, you won't be able to store anything on local storage, just your personal SharePoint site through OneDrive. The one drive you'll ever need! If you're not online, your computer will wait until you are.
This level of pedantry is not good to foster unless you want all of your words, systems, and rules questioned.
And I'm sure the person who steals that file will really appreciate the effort you put in.
I've literally searched networks for files with the word "password" in the title to find documents just... sitting on a network drive anyone could access.
At the very least, go get KeePass! It's free, can run without installation, and can even type for you.

On my brother's side, where I would need to walk around the half wall, crawl over him in his bed, and pull the roller shade that he would inevitably reopen during the day.
When I was a kid my parents got a pool from a family friend. It was up for a few years before the liner deteriorated and we took it down again.
In the summers between school years the sun would perfectly reflect off the pool, through the window on my brother's side of the room, off the ceiling fan's white blades as it spun, and directly into my fucking face with a strobing effect.
I recently started a new job after being unemployed for too long and slipping back into my night-owl habits and schedule. With the last job I used Google's Clock, Home, and YouTube Music apps to wake my ass up on time by turning on the lights and playing some music. While it worked at the time, I since removed the assistant from my phone the entire arrangement fell apart.
I spent too long trying to get Home Assistant to take over this process, but had so much trouble getting the pieces together. I just couldn't find an alarm clock app that could trigger a Home Assistant automation or a way to play music on either the Google smart hub I have as a clock or my phone. But tonight I got the past piece realigned, and it's fucking working!
How we do:
- Set an alarm in your preferred mobile phone App. (I use the Fossify Clock)
- Ensure the Home Assistant app has the Alarm Sensor enabled. (Settings > Manager Sensors)
- Configure the Music Assistant addon to connect to your preferred device and music provider. (If it's YouTube make sure to grab the cookie in a private browser window!) -Create a Home Assistant automation that is triggered when the time matches the Next Alarm sensor. (Maybe offset it back by a few seconds to prevent update delay causing it to miss.)
- Have the automation turn a nearby light at 1%, wait a little bit, and then start slowly increase to 100% over like 20 minutes.
- Set the Music Assistant player to a volume to is loud enough to hear, but not quiet enough to ignore. Also set it to shuffle while you are at it.
- Play your chosen music using Music Assistant on your player. Give it a playlist of your liked songs so that the shuffle always gives you something you like every day, but not the same song.
- Get your ass up and get ready to work.
Of course, if you have ideas of how to improve this I would love to hear it. I already have my lights fade as it gets close to bedtime.
I made some cupcakes for my niece's birthday. Vanilla cake with chocolate frosting and some edible dinosaur decorations I found when picking up the containers to transport them in. Fairly tasty even if the frosting looked a bit crap-shaped. 💩

The photo was to share with my coworkers to make them jealous because I lived close enough to work where I could actually cook a decent meal.
I'm currently sorting my backlog of photos, 12 years worth, and tagging them all for easier searching. When I came across this, I wanted to share.

A few years ago a friend gave me an "Urban Shop" glitter lamp as a gift. It was a neat twist on a lava lamp that used LEDs and glitter with a motor that spun the fluid using a magnetic string bar.
While it was a great vibe, it used three AA batteries and the stirring would cycle on and off regularly causing the noise to start and stop, which I found more distracting than just leaving it on.
I found that the on-off switch was actual an on-on switch without a second connection, so I took an old USB cable and hardwired the second switch terminal so that I could power it from a power supply or batteries.
This was a drastic improvement to me, but I didn't like the cord always being attached and the motor cycling was still annoying. Eventually, the lamp ended up on a shelf for a later date.
Today, I pulled the lamp down because I finally tried ESPHome because I keep hearing about it in other people's projects and wanted to finally try the full smart conversion of this lamp. After several hours of trying to reuse the existing surface-mount LEDs and wiring, I gutted the whole damn thing and installed my own 5mm LEDs, rewired the motor, and added a button for controls and wired everything into a Raspberry Pi Pico W I had bought years ago.
Now I have a lamp that can be controlled locally from the button, can be reprogrammed from my computer without moving the lamp, can be controlled from Home Assistant, and performs exactly how I want.
I just finished a project to make my own orb and now I can contemplate properly.
