I actually read waterlemons right, but I read the second line wrong.

[–] Siethron@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I read it as "I hate waterlemons"

No idea why

[–] BooBees@fedinsfw.app 6 points 1 week ago

Well do you?

My brain is so good at detecting patterns that I realize that I shouldn't even engage with this

I don't consider a test writer being an insufferable pedantic asshole to be any kind of reflection of my own abilities.

"Oh, you didn't consciously turn off 3.5 billion years of evolved pattern recognition that functions correctly 99.9% of the time for the purpose of getting my disingenuous gotcha question right, on a rigidly timed test designed to put you under intense time pressure? lol"

I'll tell you where you can stick your test.

You wrote that wrong, I read it correctly.

Maybe we should build better exams

[–] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

Whoa whoa, and lose the ability to mock students? Let's not be so hasty now!

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 week ago

I've been deliberately misspelling Untied States since Trump has been back in power. It often goes unnoticed

[–] Blackfeathr@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago

Another boomer meme 🥱

[–] whotookkarl@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 1 week ago

Nice try pointing out my cognitive biases, but they also protect me from changing my mind based on the evidence

I realized this is why I can’t be editor on my own creative writing. With hundreds of pages of work, it’s very easy for the writer to already know what they intended to say, and interpret that from the page on a quick glance.

This level of pedantry is not good to foster unless you want all of your words, systems, and rules questioned.

[–] Grostleton@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 week ago

I have lixdyxia ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

[–] okwhateverdude@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Burned once in primary school by this trick. Never again. Fuck you teachers for doing dumb shit like this.

[–] Lauchmelder@feddit.org 4 points 1 week ago

what's the intended lesson tho? To always read words letter by letter? How inefficient, sounds more like a cognitohazard instead of a lesson

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago

at the top of a two page quiz (single side, two pages stapled). read through the entire quiz before beginning.

question 1 immediately follows, an easy one even the dummies can answer.

question 10 on second page. print your name in the top right corner of the first page and then answer this question and this question only (and it's something that's an opinion, not even a 'right or wrong'). turn the quiz over when completed, and sit quietly until the bell rings or instructed otherwise.

Wow, I love this seeming wave of boomer Facebook memes! Kinda fun ngl

[–] aesthelete@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Caught it on waterlemons.

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago

Fuck. You're right.

[–] littletranspunk@lemmus.org 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Counterpoint: I speed read memes and carefully analyze exams for this exact kind of trickery

[–] 0x0@infosec.pub 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Counter counterpoint: me too but other way the around

[–] littletranspunk@lemmus.org 1 points 1 week ago

Well the exams are more private than a public Internet comment section, so understandable

[–] treesquid@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I got a T shirt eons ago ($7, couldn't stop myself) that said "I have a dig bick/You that read wrong/You read that wrong too". I can't wait to find a younger shithead to gift it to now that I'm old enough that I'm expected to be vaguely dignified.

This is too accurate, I have failed exams by missreading the question
