As I recall, but it has been a long time, those investments are hastily made for a short term and frequently result in things being worse than they were. The things you need to host an event like that are different than what you need to live in that area.

Ah, yes, that word. That very common word. One which I did not need to guess the letter order until it accepted some combination.

Read that as kilograms at first and just nodded like "Yup, that would INDEED be sufficient."

It's worth noting the trial was funded by LivaNova, the company that manufactures the VNS device, which has a financial interest in the trial's outcome.

...

The US FDA approved VNS for treatment-resistant depression in 2005, though exactly how it works on depression isn't fully understood.

They make a device with no idea of what it does, then fund a study to see if they can call it a miracle.

I assume that white socks and undergarments came from bleaching. You can sanitize and sterilize with bleach, but it also removes color. With modern cleaning processes, detergents, and materials that is less common and so color is allowed to thrive.

That said, I'm all black everything because it makes laundry easy.

Games that are only enjoyable because of the people you play with, I.E. your friends.

Is this the equivalent of visiting your friends grave?

You didn't watch the movie where they reveal that Eddy's brother was a abusive asshole who he was desperate to earn the approval of. His constant need to scam people and talk up his brother all stems from their terrible relationship. This culminates in the rest of the kids in the culdesac siding with Eddy when they see how his brother treats him despite literally spending the entire movie hunting him down for a scam that went too far.

I wanted to go see a concert tonight for the first time ever. The venue offered tickets online through ticketmaster (henceforth referred to as ticketbastard) with a note that any remaining tickets are available at the box office once the show starts. Checking their website more, I found that they sell tickets in-person during posted hours, so I figured I could just go buy a real ticket and avoid the ticketbastard garbage.

Two hours later I'm realizing that A) The in-person ticket is like 25% cheaper than if I bought it online B) It's still through ticketbastard despite me showing up in person C) I can still only get in by getting a barcode through the fucking ticketbastard app. They have no web portal. D) They offer no refunds.

Most reviews are boring, corporate friendly platitudes and a 5-star rating, but that really doesn't tell you anything about the product. Hell, it may just be a bot regurgitating the products marketing sheet!

But if reviews contained swearing, slander, or other legal minefields you could know it wasn't written by the company.

"This toaster is great, works well, likes to eat forks. Feed it a fork every morning to reward it for a good job."

"What a fucking great coffee machine! Be sure to lick any drips off the scalding hot plate, that's the most tasty part."

"5-stars, mine came with an official statement from the company saying Hitler did nothing wrong."

I recently started a new job after being unemployed for too long and slipping back into my night-owl habits and schedule. With the last job I used Google's Clock, Home, and YouTube Music apps to wake my ass up on time by turning on the lights and playing some music. While it worked at the time, I since removed the assistant from my phone the entire arrangement fell apart.

I spent too long trying to get Home Assistant to take over this process, but had so much trouble getting the pieces together. I just couldn't find an alarm clock app that could trigger a Home Assistant automation or a way to play music on either the Google smart hub I have as a clock or my phone. But tonight I got the past piece realigned, and it's fucking working!

How we do:

  • Set an alarm in your preferred mobile phone App. (I use the Fossify Clock)
  • Ensure the Home Assistant app has the Alarm Sensor enabled. (Settings > Manager Sensors)
  • Configure the Music Assistant addon to connect to your preferred device and music provider. (If it's YouTube make sure to grab the cookie in a private browser window!) -Create a Home Assistant automation that is triggered when the time matches the Next Alarm sensor. (Maybe offset it back by a few seconds to prevent update delay causing it to miss.)
  • Have the automation turn a nearby light at 1%, wait a little bit, and then start slowly increase to 100% over like 20 minutes.
  • Set the Music Assistant player to a volume to is loud enough to hear, but not quiet enough to ignore. Also set it to shuffle while you are at it.
  • Play your chosen music using Music Assistant on your player. Give it a playlist of your liked songs so that the shuffle always gives you something you like every day, but not the same song.
  • Get your ass up and get ready to work.

Of course, if you have ideas of how to improve this I would love to hear it. I already have my lights fade as it gets close to bedtime.

I made some cupcakes for my niece's birthday. Vanilla cake with chocolate frosting and some edible dinosaur decorations I found when picking up the containers to transport them in. Fairly tasty even if the frosting looked a bit crap-shaped. 💩

Here are the recipes I used:

Garlic salt, pepper, and paprika seasoned pepper jack cheeseburgers with mustard and barbecue sauce on toasted bagel buns.

This is an old photo, from 2018, but it is also one of the best photos I have ever taken of something I cooked. I spent a few days making the burger patties ahead of time and grilling them for lunch. The photo was to share with my coworkers to make them jealous because I lived close enough to work where I could actually cook a decent meal.

I'm currently sorting my backlog of photos, 12 years worth, and tagging them all for easier searching. When I came across this, I wanted to share.

A few years ago a friend gave me an "Urban Shop" glitter lamp as a gift. It was a neat twist on a lava lamp that used LEDs and glitter with a motor that spun the fluid using a magnetic string bar.

While it was a great vibe, it used three AA batteries and the stirring would cycle on and off regularly causing the noise to start and stop, which I found more distracting than just leaving it on.

I found that the on-off switch was actual an on-on switch without a second connection, so I took an old USB cable and hardwired the second switch terminal so that I could power it from a power supply or batteries.

This was a drastic improvement to me, but I didn't like the cord always being attached and the motor cycling was still annoying. Eventually, the lamp ended up on a shelf for a later date.

Today, I pulled the lamp down because I finally tried ESPHome because I keep hearing about it in other people's projects and wanted to finally try the full smart conversion of this lamp. After several hours of trying to reuse the existing surface-mount LEDs and wiring, I gutted the whole damn thing and installed my own 5mm LEDs, rewired the motor, and added a button for controls and wired everything into a Raspberry Pi Pico W I had bought years ago.

Now I have a lamp that can be controlled locally from the button, can be reprogrammed from my computer without moving the lamp, can be controlled from Home Assistant, and performs exactly how I want.

I just finished a project to make my own orb and now I can contemplate properly.

Given how many people treat speed limits as suggestions, at best, having your vehicle obey the limit would turn some people off of them.
