Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Let's see. Foreign cars start costing 20% more, so why wouldn't American carmakers raise prices by 19% just to be cheaper and make more money. In other words, all prices go up (not necissarily by the same amount, but still up)

[–] ShittyBeatlesFCPres@lemmy.world 75 points 3 months ago (2 children)

American cars are going to go up in price even without profit maximizing (which they’ll obviously also do). It’s a global supply chain. Infotainment screens and other parts aren’t made in America. Foreign manufacturers already produce cars in the U.S.

[–] empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com 50 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Foreign manufacturers already produce cars in the U.S.

And as a matter of fact, "foreign" company vehicles by the likes of Honda and Toyota are the MOST American made cars by parts origin.

[–] xyzzy@lemm.ee 6 points 3 months ago

He still lives in the 1970s. Ford, Chevy, Cadillac, GMC, Buick... they're some of the least American cars on the road.

[–] Albbi@lemmy.ca 10 points 3 months ago

Plus there's supply and demand to think about. Prices will go up becuase it'll be harder to find the domestically made vehicles.

[–] ChristmasApe@discuss.online 17 points 3 months ago (1 children)

You’d think the world’s shrewdest businessman would have a better handle on this. /s

[–] shawn1122@lemm.ee 20 points 3 months ago (1 children)

He has a very clear handle on this. He's going to siphon the money made on tariffs to him and his cronies through some form of subsidy.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 13 points 3 months ago

And contracts. Pretty soon all law enforcement vehicles will be required to be Teslas.

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 50 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Look on the bright side: when the economy crashes you'll be able to sell your car for more!

[–] zbyte64@awful.systems 31 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Because of rampant inflation?

[–] simplejack@lemmy.world 29 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Because of rampant inflation.

[–] MegaUltraChicken@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

No no no, we'll be able to buy bread with a full wheelbarrow of cash!

[–] simplejack@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I’m sorry sir, this establishment only accepts Melania Coin.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 7 points 3 months ago

I only use EggCoin, the original Cryptopoultry.

[–] Xanza@lemm.ee 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

No, because the dollar is about to go the same way as the Pengo. I wonder who they're gonna put on the 100 Quntillion Dollar bill.

[–] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 3 months ago

Donor auction, obviously.

[–] Artyom@lemm.ee 31 points 3 months ago

Yeah, I guess the guy who basically can't drive for the rest of his life and probably hasn't driven much ever wouldn't care about the auto industry.

[–] lupusblackfur@lemmy.world 28 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Fuck Bloomberg...

Not agreeing to their shit just to read an article.

Fuck. Right. Off.

🖕 🖕

[–] grte@lemmy.ca 16 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (3 children)

You can get past the Bloomberg paywall by adding a period after the .com

So, instead of

www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-03-29/trump-tells-nbc-he-couldn-t-care-less-about-higher-auto-prices

put

www.bloomberg.com./news/articles/2025-03-29/trump-tells-nbc-he-couldn-t-care-less-about-higher-auto-prices

[–] lupusblackfur@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Editing fail but I got the idea... And, success!

Thanks for that tip. Likely try it more often. 😀

For a more long-term solution that works for more sites:

https://gitflic.ru/project/magnolia1234/bypass-paywalls-firefox-clean

It was on the Firefox add-ons store, got removed. It was on github, got removed. It was on gitlab, got removed.

Moved to gitflic in Russia, sadly, but magnolia1234 still writes all the documentation in English.

There's also a Chrome version if you really must with Google's browser.

[–] grte@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 months ago

As far as I'm aware this only works for Bloomberg. A flaw in their site design.

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

i might be stupid but i don't see the difference

[–] grte@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 months ago

Lemmy was adding an unwanted slash for whatever reason, look at my edited comment.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 months ago

How does this work?

[–] Tikiporch@lemmy.world 17 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Most of his voters don't buy new cars.

[–] silence7@slrpnk.net 24 points 3 months ago (1 children)

When new car prices go up, used car prices should rise too

[–] entwine413@lemm.ee 14 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, look at what just happened to the used car market because of the chip shortage during COVID.

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Yeah, the "chip shortage"

[–] ChristmasApe@discuss.online 8 points 3 months ago

They make them and sell them though.

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Not me. Javascript on. Article blocked.

[–] modern_drift@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Still got blocked on Android. Thank you for this link

Nope, the man only cares about ripping off America's and being cruel to minorities.

[–] pleasegoaway@lemm.ee 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

The trump regime was designed to TANK the US economy so that stocks, businesses, and industries can be bought by billionaires at rock bottom prices.

All is going according to plan.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

If the dude wants a third term under free and fair elections, I wonder how many total morons will even STILL vote for this fucker.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 months ago

At least he didn’t say “could care less” so he is officially smarter than an internet commenter!

[–] 2ugly2live@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

But surely he cares about the eggs!

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

He cares more about how fElon's feelings are being hurt by the Democrats being mean to him.

[–] Vandals_handle@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago
[–] werefreeatlast@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Me too!....oh no wait a minute! That means when I buy a new car, it will be expensive! Then no! Let's not do it! Oh its too late? Shit! Then I won't buy a car. I'll take public transportation and spend most of my free time there, to and from work.

[–] Azwing@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

I mean absolutely HE couldn’t care less but not sure about several million other folks. Fuck orange man in his grapefruit shaped hole.

[–] Tail11@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I guess we'll be riding bicycles and horses soon.

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

If you think this dude is building infrastructure for bicycles, then I have bad news.

[–] Tail11@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

I did not say 'build infrastructure,' just that we will be required to use our power for transportation instead of relying on vehicles.

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com -2 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

Nobody should care about higher auto prices. Cars are literally destroying the planet, our health, our safety, and our communities. It's a completely unsustainable con based on extreme violence and privilege. Fuck cars.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago

Maybe but there needs to be a well-thought out off-ramp.

This is not that.
