Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

An internal memo circulated at the Social Security Administration stated that the agency is considering adding another step to battle fraud that would force millions of customers to file for benefits in person at a field office instead of over the phone, according to The Washington Post.

The memo noted that the policy change would lead to significant disruptions to the agency’s operations and could lead to major difficulties for elderly and disabled people with restricted mobility. The Department of Government Efficiency, headed by Elon Musk, also revealed plans to close dozens of Social Security offices...

"The Department of Government Efficiency, headed by Elon Musk, also revealed plans to close dozens of Social Security office"

So we can look forward to waiting in lines for literal days in order to get the smallest of questions done. Its like a Futurama skit.

If it passes, there will be riots. Probably outside of the remaining Social Security offices...

"Let's piss off hundreds of thousands of people with nothing to lose, then make them all meet in the same place."

Because nothing bad ever happened when the downtrotten realise they're far from alone....

make them all meet in the same place

Ye of little faith. The next step is replacing all physical offices with a broken phone tree and an "(AI) agent" queue with an artificial wait time of 7-16 hours before entering the actual queue—to deter the scammers and fraudsters, of course.

/s but that's probably exactly what will happen.

Nope. Bullshit. None of this is about battling fraud, and anyway ,Social Security is about the cleanest, most fraud-free agency possible. Over 99% accuracy. The claims of rampant fraud are just more Republican lies.

Their goal is eugenics. They don't care about killing the sick and elderly

[–] tal@lemmy.today 2 points 11 months ago

I don't know about the sick, but the Republican Party sort of needs elderly voters, unless it's gonna do some kind of radical realignment.

[–] reddig33@lemmy.world 7 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Everyone clutch your pearls and act shocked! It’s not like Republicans haven’t been talking about getting rid of social security for years.

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 5 points 11 months ago

We should get rid of the Republicans. Traitors and fools, all of them.

I am surprised MAGA has not just started mailing guns to every senior with a note that Says you know what to do.

[–] tiredofsametab@fedia.io 6 points 11 months ago

A lot of people overseas also rely on social security. I certainly would hope to collect something in another 20ish years as well.

[–] Whirling_Cloudburst@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

The whole system has been designed around getting people to give up. They are just adding more holes in that system.

[–] andrewta@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

As bad as they make websites doing it online is going to be basically impossible for most people anyway.

Same for the mail in forms.

I swear the people who design these things personally keep the cartels in business by the amount of Crack they do.
