Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Bold words coming from a couch fucker.

[–] SinningStromgald@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

Someone really should ask if the Whitehouse cleaning staff are being paid extra to get Vance's emission's out of the furniture.

[–] Bruncvik@lemmy.world 78 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Vance is Peter Thiel's hand puppet, just like Trump is Musk's. Thiel and Musk first came to serious money when they merged their companies to create PayPal, and since then they've been cooperating on various projects. Their current project is to establish corpo-feudalism in the US, and for that they need geopolitical isolation (Thiel's job) and the dismantling of all social safetynets (Musk's job). That's all the context needed to understand Vance's behaviour.

[–] porous_grey_matter@lemmy.ml 40 points 11 months ago (3 children)

So Thiel is really in control then, since Musk is actually an idiot. The idea that Thiel thought "I can't trust this guy to do anything" when he kicked Musk out of PayPal, and now "Wait, I need someone to ruin something and run it into the ground, I've got just the guy" is somehow absolutely hilarious to me.

[–] Hotspur@lemmy.ml 13 points 11 months ago

Yeah this has been what I’m wondering lately. Clearly Thiel can’t be super in love with Elon since they ousted him from PayPal while he was on his honeymoon… but if he’s a useful idiot that can take the attnetion and heat, when everything implodes it’ll be on Musk and then Trump, and then Vance, who has been higher profile as VP than most, can try and worm his way in there and voila, Thiel has got what he wants. Vance is pretty off putting to most people though, which seems like bad judgement on his handlers part if they want a pseudo-legit govt CEO… but then the handlers are also super off putting in real life and clearly live in a alternate reality/bubble so maybe it’s not that far fetched.

[–] zipzoopaboop@lemmynsfw.com 3 points 11 months ago

Musk is dr evil. Thiel is dr no.

[–] Wahots@pawb.social 2 points 11 months ago

It would be hilarious if it weren't for the 75m Americans being sacrificed because of these idiots. If it just affected morons who FAFO, it would be a bit more lighthearted.

Their playbook is The Sovereign Individual.

[–] BrokenGlepnir@lemmy.world 59 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Hasn't fought a war in 30 to 40 years? Who came with us into Iraq and Afghanistan?

[–] Palerider@feddit.uk 16 points 11 months ago

Also a little over 40 years ago was the Falklands war.

[–] psmgx@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago (1 children)

And did real, actually fighting there, too.

Vance was in the Marines and ought to have known that

[–] martin4598@lemm.ee 1 points 11 months ago

Vance was a press correspondant in an office. He didn't do shit and didn't see shit. He has no idea what fighting a war is.

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 54 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I hope this guy is a blimp in history and nothing more.

[–] OCATMBBL@lemmy.world 67 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Like the Hindenburg, I hope.

[–] brandon@lemmy.ml 32 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Excuse me, the Hidenburg was not merely a blimp, it was a rigid airship. JD could never.

[–] Vandals_handle@lemmy.world 12 points 11 months ago

JD rigid airships couches

[–] cygnus@lemmy.ca 6 points 11 months ago

He does strike me more as the flaccid type.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 47 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Well, it shows Vances vast knowlege of politics, history, and reality. It fits on a very small piece of paper.

[–] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 15 points 11 months ago

I've read longer fortune cookies

[–] Lanske@lemmy.world 30 points 11 months ago (1 children)

They do their best to get alienated from their allies, don't they?!

[–] ploot@lemmy.blahaj.zone 25 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

They are evidently trying to destroy the USA's traditional alliances and weaken its historical allies. The most immediate benefit is to Russia, but China also benefits while North America and Europe lose out. Their motivation seems to be that turmoil offers billionaires new opportunities to make more money, and they may also hope to strengthen their dealings with Russian oligarchs.

War is good for business.

And despite the next rule being "peace is good for business", that's not actually all that true.

[–] notsoshaihulud@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

War is good for business.

wars fought on far away land, ideally fought by other people.

[–] SkyeStarfall@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yes, this is crucially what is often forgotten

If you are actually directly participating in a war, then it's nothing but destructive

"War is good for business" would apply mostly to china in this case, and a little to Africa and maybe South America depending on how involved they're gonna end up being

[–] notsoshaihulud@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

Yup, the country whose infrastructure is getting obliterated does not profit from war.

Care to elaborate on the South America/Africa part?

[–] MisanthropiCynic@lemm.ee 28 points 11 months ago (1 children)

What a moron! Everybody knows it’s four random countries

[–] Enkrod@feddit.org 1 points 11 months ago

In a trenchcoat

[–] Spuddlesv2@lemmy.ca 21 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Haha! Yeah! Wouldn’t want some loser military that hasn’t won a war in the last 80 years. Haha!

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Can't lose a war if you don't declare war, taps head

[–] TheEschatonSucks@sh.itjust.works 18 points 11 months ago

What a knob, the Australians were right.

[–] meowmeowbeanz@sopuli.xyz 17 points 11 months ago

Britain hasn’t fought wars? Try Googling Iraq and Afghanistan, Mr. Vice President.

🐱

[–] Ghyste@sh.itjust.works 14 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Sounds like something a knob would say.

[–] Palerider@feddit.uk 2 points 11 months ago

Not a knob, more of a bell-end.

[–] shadowDingus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 11 months ago (1 children)
