Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Fuck that orange shit stain

[–] charade_you_are@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'd rather interact with my orange beer shits than Trump

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world -2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Bad news: when Trump annexes Canada, your orange beer shits will have a much lower alcohol content.

Because Canadian beer has much higher alcohol content.

Apparently people don't know that.

Either that, or they're angry about it.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago

That may have been true once, but not anymore.

The only difference is that light beer is, or at least used to, be preferred by Americans. Regular beer has the same standard range (5-5.5%) in both countries. In fact if it's over 5.5 it has to be categorized as a "strong beer" in Canada while US doesn't have that category and most craft IPAs (most popular craft beer) are 6% or over.

So it's really entirely preference. Currently Americans drink 40% light beer, 35% regular domestic and 25% craft. Given that the market is flooded with craft IPAs between 7-9% its very possible US beers are stronger than Canadian beers now.

Putin wants trump to get Greenland and Canada because USA + Greenland + Canada + Russia is basically >50% of the land.

Been saying this since he first brought it up limd a 7 or 8 years ago or whatever.

[–] RisingSwell@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I mean, remove Greenland from the list and not a lot changes right?

[–] MegaUltraChicken@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There will be some polar bears feeling very left out.

[–] adespoton@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Polar bears mostly live on open water or near the shore. Are there really polar bears in Greenland?

[–] MegaUltraChicken@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah I originally put penguins but decided to fact check myself. They do not have penguins, but do have polar bears, humback whales, reindeer, and walruses.

Greenland seems pretty cool as is. I see no reason why we need to mess it up.

[–] TRBoom@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Penguins only naturally live in the southern hemisphere.

[–] adespoton@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago

Including the coast of Africa. They’re more a “southern hemisphere” bird than a “cold” bird.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Greenland has a very large proportion of the world's accessible fresh water. Something America is rapidly running out of because water is being pumped out of the ground faster than it's being replenished. Couple that with all the minerals and ores being exposed due to the melting glaciers and Greenland is a pretty important strategic interest to the U.S.

[–] RisingSwell@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 year ago

I meant specifically for land mass, but after actually looking up how big Greenland is, not tiny. Its over 20% the size of Canada.

I kinda thought Greenland was small and idk why.

Question for American soldiers, how many of you are willing to die in the attempt to invade your neighbour and ally?

If you got the order to cross the border what would you do?

[–] PlaidBaron@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

While we have your attention. In the event you do invade our country please ensure you have your dogtags on you at all times.

Your bodies will be unrecognizable when they get shipped home.

[–] Yeller_king@reddthat.com 2 points 1 year ago

It'd genuinely surprise me if there were many American soldiers on here.

[–] root_beer@midwest.social 2 points 1 year ago

Serious about wanting to start WWIII by annexing a sovereign nation, he means.

Perhaps Trump will try to calm people by calling it, say, a “connection”?
