So, Nintendo made it so only pirates can get the digital game now?

Piracy is a service delivery failure

While it won't stop everyone, if that game were freely available I'm sure there would be several less folks emulating them right now

Emulate the old games. Unlike the original SMAS, 3d All-Stars added nothing to the experience that can't be done with emulation. I say this as someone who bought it.

Nintendo reinventing the Disney Vault™️ to artificially create scarcity

I'm sure we'll all be surprised when those games are all rereleased at $70 each.

Reads like it was written by an ai:

  • drones on with tangential information
  • doesn't answer the question

Reads like it was written by a marketing team.

Sometimes the AI tells the truth by accident

I mean the first sentence answered the question. It was available for a limited time due to 35th anniversary. It’s a dumb reason but the answer is right there.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

It's a rhetorical non-answer, "the 35th anniversary release was only available for a limited time because it was only available for a limited time".

There are hundreds of anniversary releases of games that are made permanently available - hence why people asked Nintendo why this one was given an artificially short availability so often that it became an FAQ question. They own the rights, they can sell it indefinitely if they want.

Eg: search Steam for 'anniversary' you'll find 600+ results.

Here’s why

[–] [email protected] 16 points 2 months ago (1 children)

These were always a terrible value. Just emulate them.

Straight to jail

I remember hearing from many people, "I wasn't going to buy it, but it's only available for a limited period, don't want to miss out on it".

I voted with my wallet, and didn't buy it. I lost the vote though, since it sold pretty well.

Which explains why they did it. They created some hype, and earned some money, and still kept it for making some quick money by remaster / re-release when needed.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

I bought it when it came out even though I couldn't reasonably afford it, because at the time my stupid teen-aged self wanted to collect every Nintendo published game on the Switch, and thought the game was going to be sold out if I didn't get it. I was well aware it was scummy of Nintendo at the time, but I bought it because I was sure they wouldn't do it again. I even got the limited time Fire Emblem English translation and still haven't touched it yet.

Please do not the game

Thanks. I've never had the urge so bad to click no on the "Is this info helpful" question before.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago

That didn't explained anyrhing

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago

Also, it should have had Super Mario Galaxy 2, it was crappy that they went from 4 games down to 3 for that All Star collection.

„Japanese like it this way and we’re a Japanese company, deal with it” is a perfectly fine explanation. Japanese consumers love limited drops.

Yeah, I had to buy a physical copy of eBay for like 90 bucks. It was bullshit, but my kid wanted it for his birthday and I couldn't say no.

Pearl clutch The Vault.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's in the first three words of the article. It's celebrating the anniversary, so you buy it during the anniversary period. How long do you celebrate your birthday for? If you got a birthday present to celebrate your 35th birthday six months after you turned 50, is it still a 35th birthday present?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago

It's a dumb reason, but it is a reason

[–] [email protected] -1 points 1 month ago

Why exactly are we still bringing this up? We all know it was a shitty thing to do... this post reeks of ragebait.
