Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

The world has been giving them nothing but praise for like 5-6 years now, I think that's all.

Imagine a rodent with duck feet. It's between the height of your navel to your sternum - about 300lb. The hair is very coarse. It has a stubby tail. It eats like a goat but acts like a happy cow - they enjoy pets but would run away before acting aggressive

Just look at this beautiful creature.

Capybaras are clearly doing something right that we aren’t.

[–] lord_ryvan@ttrpg.network 9 points 2 years ago

They are very swell.

[–] syreus@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

Uncle Ben is that you?

[–] PriorityMotif@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

[–] LogicalDrivel@sopuli.xyz 52 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I just find this funny as hell

[–] DahGangalang@infosec.pub 40 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yeah, I can't get enough of them. I literally have my colonists buy it all when capybara meat is in stock.

+1 for correct market timing. -2 for annoying vegans. +1 for supporting the mobile infantry.

The Quokka marketing department enters the chat...

[–] argarath@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

They're just so happy to be there that they forget to do their marketing pitch

That's how they stay alive in that place. Literally anything that wants to kill them just stops and goes "awwwwww"

The key is to just be cool and not a dick. They are the Keanu Reeves of animals. Keanu Reeves is the capybara of people.

[–] Khrux@ttrpg.network 4 points 2 years ago (2 children)

This gave me flashbacks to being on Reddit with the cult of Keanu Reeves. I respect the man but if he's shown too much love puts him in a situation where anything he does will be scrutinised.

He knows. He hover hands every woman he puts his arm around in a picture.

/r/onetruegod would like to know if you have some time to discuss ..well...the aforementioned one true god

Is this Capybara Kobama?

[–] Crumbgrabber@lemm.ee 1 points 2 years ago

Now I know who is behind it all

[–] WanderingVentra@lemm.ee 24 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Okay I'm clearly out of the loop. What's happening with capybaras? Is this something I have to sort by All to understand?

[–] Albbi@lemmy.ca 12 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Me too. I get squirrels and bunnies in my feed, but no capybaras.

[–] WanderingVentra@lemm.ee 9 points 2 years ago

Right? Feel like I'm missing out.

[–] Cadeillac@lemmy.world 13 points 2 years ago

Capybara. Capybara Capybara Capybara Capybara caaapybaaaara 🎶

[–] TheWeirdestCunt@lemm.ee 13 points 2 years ago (1 children)

They always seem so chill in photos but I've worked with them and they're one of the most skittish animals I've dealt with, the tapir they lived with was always wanting scratches though

[–] roguetrick@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Sharing a habitat with jaguars, pumas, and humans would make me skittish too.

[–] Steve@startrek.website 9 points 2 years ago

Theres a pair at the zoo. So fucking cute, for a rodent of unusual size. (The zoo sign actually says that)

The only capitalism I'll accept

[–] Fleur__@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

I'm waiting for the tourists attacked by capybaras headline..... Anyway now. ..

[–] criitz@reddthat.com 2 points 2 years ago (3 children)

I had to block that community to get them out of my feed

[–] linearchaos@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Invasive species :)

[–] lord_ryvan@ttrpg.network 1 points 2 years ago

Which community?

[–] Crumbgrabber@lemm.ee 1 points 2 years ago

I just dmed you 20 Copybaras. Their will is senior to ours and they will not be denied.

[–] smock9@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago
[–] Bach37strad@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Ikr, they're delicious

[–] BarrierWithAshes@fedia.io -3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Most overrated rodents. Where's all the love for nutrias at? (excluding the place where they're invasive)

[–] ShepherdPie@midwest.social 2 points 2 years ago

I'm pretty sure they're invasive where I live but even if they weren't, I'm still deeply repulsed by them.
