As if I didn't already have enough reasons to avoid that retail hell.

I'm not sure if he lied per se (or at least in this instance?) but he definitely got out over his skis saying this before the election. Even back in August, it was pretty fucking stupid since Colorado is blue and there is one of his gigantic gas stations there...

[–] SalmonTractor@discuss.tchncs.de 23 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

Stop at every one. Just to use the bathrooms. And leave. The bathrooms are massive, and you get to pee on their organization at the same time.

[–] BigPotato@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

The cool thing is, if you already owned Buc-ee's swim trunks before you found out what a tosser he is, you can piss on them all the time and never set foot in the store!

[–] Turret3857@infosec.pub 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

nonzero chance they still profit from this due to being able to categorize you into a percentage group to sell to advertisers.

[–] hanke@feddit.nu 10 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

This guy is such a pisser. Gunna sell him so many turlets.

[–] Turret3857@infosec.pub 4 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

Its more that they can analyze demographics based on race, perceived gender and clothing style to estimate financial brackets that shop in the store and cater ads to groups of people based on how you interact in the store. Things you looked at, how long you looked at it, your walking style, what youre doing with your hands. Its all tracked and used and/or sold to mentally manipulate you into buying.

you probably know this but I'm responding for people who may not.

[–] 13igtyme@startrek.website 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Turlets and boilers. Also that one boilin turlet.

[–] reddig33@lemmy.world 94 points 13 hours ago (3 children)

Remember this the next time you see someone fawning over buc-ees.

[–] dan1101@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

It's a great place to stop if you want to waste an hour on a road trip stop.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 46 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (5 children)

I've been there a few times. It's....okay? Bathrooms are nice and clean, as advertised.

But I don't really see what the big deal is. Just seems like the Walmart of gas stations.

But now that this asshat went and opened his big mouth I have no plans on going there again...ironically, there is one right off I-25 near Fort Collins in Colorado....which has been pretty much blue for years. Somehow, the place is busy as hell and seems to be doing alright.

Conservatives always have to make things so goddamned weird. Has anyone asked this guy what "family friendly" means?

[–] Zak@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago

But I don’t really see what the big deal is.

People who make a big deal out of it are over the top, but it's pretty good at being a gas station:

  • The gas is usually priced well. I've seen 10% lower than anything else in the area before.
  • There's a variety of hot food, all adequate. With a group of people, it's likely everyone will find something.
  • There are a lot of snacks.
  • There's a variety of caffeine, all reasonably priced instead of the usual gas station trick of energy drinks are only reasonably priced if you buy three.
  • There are always gas pumps open. No waiting.
  • It's clean, from the pump to the toilet.

If there's one on my route and the timing makes sense, that's where I'll stop.

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 hours ago

Family friendly means christian and conservative.

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago) (1 children)

To a ya'll qaeda Christian, "family friendly" means:

Jesus is watching you masturbate, disapprovingly.

He also wants you to remember its a sin to discuss your wages/salary, and that unionizing is an unforgivable/deadly sin.

... its camp. They don't realize they're doing camp, because they're in a cult, but its camp.

Right, here's Betty Bowers, America's Best Christian.

https://youtube.com/MrsBettyBowers

10 years ago or whatever, you could tell this was obviously satire. Nowadays? Much closer to indistinguishable from shit ya'll qaeda Christians do and say totally earnestly.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 59 minutes ago)

I'm not an expert, but doesn't "camp" require at least a minimal amount of self-awareness?

[–] harrys_balzac@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 10 hours ago

Family friendly means paying for the best lawyers for his son to fight child porn charges.

[–] dou9m@lemmy.ca 33 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

It’s southerners trying to pretend like they have anything special other than highway-side gas stations.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 59 minutes ago

It's exactly this.

[–] DonJefe@lemmy.world 18 points 11 hours ago

The south has a lot of special things. We have specially bad public schools, specially bad public transportation systems, specially bad worker protections, etc.

[–] Zedstrian@sopuli.xyz 8 points 13 hours ago

Visited a Buc-ees for the novelty of it, but didn't otherwise get gas or anything else there to avoid supporting such a conservative-leaning business.

[–] 843563115848@lemmy.zip 22 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Thanks, now I know to avoid them. Much like that weird Jesus flavored chicken sandwich joint. Hard pass.

[–] Bbbbbbbbbbb@lemmy.world 12 points 9 hours ago

Chik Fil A so bad you can taste the gay hate in the food. Bland AF

[–] xxce2AAb@feddit.dk 37 points 12 hours ago

Being a man of his word, I suppose he has no choice but to close them all.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 27 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

There are so many stories to delight in after this election, but this one is like manna from heaven.

Why do these idiotic businessmen open their cake holes and speak about politics at all?

[–] troybot@piefed.social 18 points 12 hours ago

His son was arrested for child pornography so he needed to manufacturer headlines to create a distraction. He's pulling the Nicki Minaj tactic.

[–] dou9m@lemmy.ca 15 points 13 hours ago

Narcissistic tendencies, disconnect from reality due to their self-inflicted segregation from the poors, etc.

[–] BassTurd@lemmy.world 8 points 10 hours ago

Fuck buc-ees

[–] ramble81@lemmy.zip 11 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

I’m a Buc-ee’s fan and love going to them on road trips, but Ngl, this is fucking hilarious. I hope he’s seen people calling him out on this or has been asked about it. I’d love to see his reaction. You know it’ll be some backpedaling because he loves money more.

[–] Bbbbbbbbbbb@lemmy.world 10 points 9 hours ago

Should be asking him about his pedophile son instead

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 10 points 11 hours ago

The guy with the pedo son?

[–] grue@lemmy.world 5 points 10 hours ago

I love how the Jalopnik writer wanted to write about the election results so bad that he grasped at the tenuous Buc-ee's connection to shoehorn it into the website's "car journalism" format.

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.cafe 4 points 10 hours ago

You're not getting my money regardless, so don't waste any effort building out here.

[–] Tyrq@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 8 hours ago

You know, I went down a small rabbit hole yesterday studying Presbyterianism after seeing what denomination Talarico was.

I came to find that they are just one group of a few sects (or heresies if you're feeling particularly zealous) of "English Dissenters". More or less the rift between Protestantism and leaving the English monarchist church behind when establishing the New World.

One of such related sects were the Enthusiasts, who were amongst other things credited unearnestly as advocates for political and religious causes, Though frankly, it seems more peevish than fire and brimstone apoplexy if you ask me.

Delving further on the matter enthusiasm as a term, it was always a devine proclamation; to be possessed by a god, to have a devine inspiration. Enthusiasm isn't just a passing interest, it's by the providence granted on high. Those who are devinely touched by the god in the machine, understand what it is to be a car enthusiast.
