He’s officially irrelevant now and I am so happy.

I’ll never have to hear about him or Susan Collins again.

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 15 points 3 days ago

I had forgotten Collins lost. Man, what a great day.

Takin out da trash

[–] vatlark@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

Oh shit! I didn't expect that

[–] TN2VOA@reddthat.com 2 points 3 days ago (2 children)
[–] criss_cross@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

No, but originally he was supposed to help keep a dem majority, but that crumbled when he started voting republican.

Now it doesn’t matter because they have a majority without him. So he can just sit in his corner for 4 years until he’s primaried.

[–] Denfa@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Not yet— 2028, and he’s despised by both sides.

[–] Nastybutler@lemmy.world 87 points 4 days ago (6 children)

What kind of fool would jump from a functional ship to a sinking one?

Just Fetterman and Stevens I guess.

[–] BradleyUffner@lemmy.world 29 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The part of his brain that contained ethics, morals, human decency, and simple logic died when he had that stroke

[–] TwodogsFighting@lemdro.id 11 points 4 days ago

Either that, or the bit that led about being a Democrat.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 31 points 4 days ago (1 children)

stevens is out of the party in her state, she has very little power unlike fetterman.

Pretty fucking funny.

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 7 points 3 days ago

Stevens is getting that sweet blood money from aipac, cushy lobbying gig maybe. Federman too, though he probably doesn't realize he's useless to them now. No cushy job or blood money for him.

[–] BillCheddar@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

In this season of House of Cards, those two carry on TV's grossest affair.

[–] Waterpumpee@lemmus.org 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Why did they not get thrown out their party beforehand?

[–] MajorasTerribleFate@lemmy.zip 6 points 3 days ago

I've heard that Fetterman still votes with Dems on most things, which tend not to be the things we hear about. If he officially left the party, he may be inclined to actually vote with Republicans on all that other stuff, too.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 days ago

One with brain damage.

[–] unknownuserunknownlocation@kbin.earth 72 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Lol, the one guy on CBC even talked about having a Fetterman resistant Senate majority

[–] TheRealKuni@piefed.social 79 points 4 days ago (2 children)

We call that an unfettered majority. 😁

[–] W98BSoD@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 4 days ago
[–] ElChinchilla@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

Wrap it up folks, internet done for the day. TheRealKuni wins for today.

[–] Vanth@reddthat.com 79 points 4 days ago (1 children)

TBF, I thought he already had.

[–] empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com 60 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Has in spirit, not in title. He'll switch almost immediately to make sure the dem's headline senate control is a little more tenuous and looks worse on paper.

[–] Earthwormjim91@lemmy.world 17 points 4 days ago

Going from a possible 55 or 56 to 54 or 55 doesn’t really change the math too much. It would be big if dems only took a slim majority.

[–] TheArtfulLlama@lemmy.world 20 points 3 days ago

It'll never not be funny to me that he started leaning heavily towards MAGA only after sustaining literal brain damage.

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 48 points 4 days ago

Bringing that heat upon himself when it won't even help? He'd have to be some kind of brain damaged. Wait...

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 26 points 4 days ago (1 children)

How is he actually still a candidate? Genuine question, I don't follow US politics that closely.

[–] BradleyUffner@lemmy.world 50 points 4 days ago (2 children)

He's not, but he still has the rest of his term to serve. Unfortunately there is no recall mechanism either.

[–] Waterpumpee@lemmus.org 35 points 4 days ago (1 children)

No recall mechanism/sanction for lying about intentions after the vote is the core problem of modern democracy. We read news in real time but takes 4 years to throw the liars out. Its too easy for the corrupt lot.

[–] perturbedstarstuff@lemmy.world 15 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I wouldn't say core problem but it's definitely a critical component missing from any ernest attempt at actual democracy.

[–] AmbiguousCabbage@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, it seems easily fixed. Also, instantly recallable delegates are a feature of anarchist systems, which representative democracy should learn from.

The challenge of designing/iterating on a better system is easier than the political challenge of getting a chance to try it.

And then you have to defend that chance from saboteurs, enemy propaganda, poisoning the discussions on how to proceed, sanctions, invasion, literally anything and everything the old world can do to try to smother it.

[–] Quadhammer@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Can... can he be impeached?

[–] Earthwormjim91@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago

The House and Senate have complete control over their members.

Each House may determine the Rules of its Proceedings, punish its Members for disorderly Behaviour, and, with the Concurrence of two thirds, expel a Member.

It would take 67 votes in the Senate, but they absolutely could expel him. That won’t happen because it would require getting now 12-14 republicans on their side to kick him out, and he’s useful to republicans.

[–] BradleyUffner@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I think that's the only real solution to the problem that's laid out in the current legal framework. It's historically pretty difficult to pull off though.

[–] shutz@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Doesn't impeachment require actual illegal acts?

He lies and says he's a Democrat

His name is Fetterman

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

We dream in color, he dreams in red
His name is Fetterman

"The Democratic Party has gotten too extreme...."

[–] osaerisxero@kbin.melroy.org 28 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The Governor has the mandate now. Call that fuck to heel.

[–] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Currently there's no legal way for a state to recall their senators. States have tried in the past, but all the attempts were defeated in the courts.

In reality, even with a hypothetical friendly court, there's no way the case would make it all the way through the appeals process before the senator's term was over and they were either voted out or reelected.

Honestly, this is a good thing. It means that no Republican governor in a trifecta state can recall a Democratic senator.

[–] nerdo@lemmy.zip 9 points 3 days ago

This guy looks like he should wear a helmet

Jeffries looks like the only time he’d laugh is if he saw a homeless person fall down.

Sometimes you can judge books by their covers

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 9 points 3 days ago

Why would he charge his affiliation? There's no reason to unless you're running... You can just kinda quietly change sides

You know, pull a Federman

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 13 points 4 days ago

Thankfully, the margins are wide enough now that it wouldn't even really matter if he did.

[–] UpAndAtThem@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago

STFU Johnny, you're out of your element.

[–] Ganbat@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 days ago

I saw him just yesterday for the first time and I thought he was talking for Republicans.

[–] TipRing@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

He won't change sides, he gets committee power from being in the majority party. He would have switched in a 50/50 split but not now.

[–] Hegar@fedia.io 5 points 4 days ago

Better to keep a man on the inside, especially since he can't flip control and can keep voting with the regime anyway.

[–] Janx@piefed.social 5 points 4 days ago

Lol, it won't be enough.

[–] Denfa@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

If he’s smart he’ll hold out for the big money like Haley Stevens got. Don’t sell yourself cheap.
