7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

President Donald Trump told voters to pretend he was on the ballot in this year’s midterm elections.

They did. And they resoundingly rejected both his policies and his Republican Party.

Democrats have captured full control of Congress, NBC News projects, with voters delivering a forceful repudiation of Trump’s agenda, coupled with a clear-cut message that Congress has not done enough to provide checks on his administration and needs to do more to address affordability and corruption.

Really rough night for the "elections don't matter" and "we're not having midterms" crowds. Pour one out for them.

[–] RunJun@lemmy.dbzer0.com 76 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Fuck those pysop motherfuckers! As if voting precludes pushing for more and better.

[–] UpAndAtThem@lemmy.world 43 points 2 days ago (5 children)

Its not always a psyop, sometimes they're just out here trying to justify their lazy self-defeating personality.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 day ago

You mean "it's not always propagandists, sometimes they're just propagandees."

Either way, still a psyop.

Everyone said "trump is not leaving office"

And they said, "the corporate Dems share the same donors as MAGA"

Neither of those has been disproven and we will quickly see how constrained they are and how no one can be held accountable. That is what people have been saying and that is not a psyop. It is 40 years of data

Every single person who has been angry, upset, scared, and frustrated with the past two years needs to be up their representative’s ass TOMORROW to tell them to put these fucking fascists in prison and burn anyone who stood with them. We cannot let the Democrats try to have things go back to the status quo.

The GOP and big business has proven they will fucking grind us to dust if it means they can make more money. Every single sack of shit lining up behind Trump’s fascist regime needs to be held accountable. Stephen Miller, Kristi Noem, Greg Bovino, Markwayne Mullin, and Pete Hegseth need to be in fucking prison. Kash Patel needs to be in front of a committee every fucking day for his bullshit.

Elon Musk’s companies need to be nationalized or stripped of all their govt contracts. That motherfucker needs to be deported. Meta, Google, and Amazon need to be regulated.

Tomorrow? They aren't sworn in until next year. Like unless they are an incumbent they wouldn't have staff to answer a call or even an email address set up.

We can now hold the line, and he won't get two, new, young SCOTUS Justices. That's not nothing, but don't expect Universal Healthcare or an end to the executive orders.

In two years we should oust the "centrist" Dems, even the ones we like, and replace them with the "radical left" DSA candidates. I'll vote to replace Melanie Stansbury if a viable DSA candidate rises to challenge her. Fear of "splitting the vote" be damned.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 21 points 2 days ago (2 children)

this is the way. the primaries are the elections. republicans at every level violated or were derelict in their duty to stop violations of the constitution. voting republican is 100% anti american since trump started violating it as a matter of executive policy. Conservatives need to boot the republican party and form a new one that goes back to progressive pre nixon conservatism.

I hope Democrats would no longer make excuses of having "slim minority" not to pass popular policies.

[–] InputZero@lemmy.world 27 points 2 days ago (16 children)

Now they'll say they can't pass anything because Trump will just veto it.

[–] aquovie@lemmy.cafe 17 points 2 days ago

Every veto is a weapon in the 2028 election. Focus on affordability: housing, energy costs, medical costs.

[–] TN2VOA@reddthat.com 5 points 1 day ago

Good. Let him go on the record vetoing it. He can explain how Biden made him do it.

More likely that they will pass shit and trump will veto it, but folks will still get their jollies off saying nothing was done and use it to support JD in 28 or some shit.

And it’s Fetterman-proof in the Senate. What a weird and great night.

[–] superglue@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Even South Carolina flipped lol

The GOP senators have to be at least starting to think about removing Trump. He is the obvious cause of this. They are next if they don't do it.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Idk, they don't have a party anymore if they remove Trump.

[–] superglue@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I think they are fucked either way honestly. I was very optimistic going into this election and even that was shattered.

Mississippi is on the table this morning. Mississippi.

Just be careful and hold steady. Those billionaire-owned media companies are going to start their societal shaping immediately and they are good at that shit. Go "the People"!

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 8 points 2 days ago

this. we need essentially three election cycles to even kinda normalize. I mean folks threw out bidens team when he did a lot to recover from trump one in one term. heck obama barely leveled the blame after bush jr and they went to trump. we need to gain some altitude before being stupid again.

[–] spectrums_coherence@piefed.social 28 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

It is a great victory, but I feel it is gonna be a hard two years. I hope dem can end blantant corruption by Trump, which is very doable, but they will have a hard time fixing all the shit show that is going on, from AI bubble to oil prices.

If people don't see legitimate economical improvements (which is unlikely given the current global situation) the next president election likely will not be as clear cut as this one.

Disclaimer: I am not suggesting other issues are less important than economics, but we have seen time and time again: voters care more about gas price up 50 cents than elementary schools being bombed.

May this be the start of the Overton Window shifting so far to the Left that we never have Republicans again

The MAGA tears from brocastors is going to be great.

[–] superglue@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 2 days ago (2 children)

What an absolute massacre. Some faith in my country try was restored last night. At least a little.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

agreed. a little. I won't be stopping protesting.

The mass calls and protests should start now. You actually have people who might listen to you in power.

Oh boy, gridlock here we come. Enough votes to send stuff to him, but not enough to override his veto.

[–] massacre@lemmy.world 70 points 2 days ago (3 children)

It's much more than this, but even this part is an absolute win. No more rubber stamping whatever Toddler Trump wants. It's a return of checks and balances. It opens up doors to investigations, shutting down budgets that fund his nonsense, blocking everything he wants to do, blocking appointments, and impeachment (though I still expect it never to pass the Senate unless they can show some smoking guns - even then I'm not sure).

[–] CrimeIsLegalNow@ani.social 13 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I could see Republicans agreeing to impeach Trump under the backroom deal that the Dark Enlightenment's own fuccboi JD Vance is left out of it.

I'm not entirely sure that deal is worth taking.

[–] jontree255@lemmy.world 39 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Fucking good. That way when Dems try to actually pass legislation and make shit happen, Trump can veto it and all the blame can be squarely laid at his feet.

[–] Carl@anarchist.nexus 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Dems need to actually keep that in the news cycle too. Establishment dems definitely have a “people don’t want us to brag” mentality, but it means that republicans are really good at auto-fellation in comparison. Congress needs to keep putting wildly popular legislation on his desk, and every single time he vetoes it, they need to raise hell.

Every single bill he vetoes should be a branding iron on his flabby pale ass. Forcibly brand him as the president who vetoed universal healthcare, livable minimum wage, guaranteed paid maternity/paternity leave, etc… Don’t let the news cycle (and voters) forget why the gridlock is occurring.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 days ago

I am an atheist and I want Talarico on the news every fucking day talking about how God supports the Democrats path for peace and prosperity or however he wants to phrase it. Like 2/3rs of Americans are religious and the right somehow claimed them all without any kind of fight from Democrats.

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 31 points 2 days ago

That's okay. No more court appointments. And full control of the budget. That will be enough to turn this regime into a lame duck administration.

[–] ZapBeebz_@lemmy.world 30 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Gridlock is the better option, compared to the last two years.

Trump immediately throws the party under the bus and doubles down that he is the best ever. At least nixon seemed to care about his party. Republicans will likely respond with more trump hole licking. Thats what we see with darren bailey and the illinois republicans. doubled down. there is no level of loss that would get us to change. we will only just abandon more of our historical principles for a weak strong man type.
