“It’s happening.” It’s like that scene in Austin Powers where he’s going to run over the dude in a steam roller, but the guy’s like a hundred feet away. Doesn’t get out of the way; just screams until he’s dead.

[–] cmbabul@lemmy.world 16 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I used to consider that scene a great metaphor for climate catastrophe but this is even more apt

Really good analogy.

[–] zoloftt@lemmy.world 23 points 3 days ago (1 children)

This is pointless hyperbole. If anyone has been reading the news, yes he's trying. But also failing.

Anyone have any sources showing anything this admin has done to successfully subvert any states election process?

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.cafe 21 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Agree.

We should be concerned, but not fall into despair.

[–] AdolfSchmitler@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

Powdered milk? In the poop factory??

[–] Sanctus@anarchist.nexus 64 points 4 days ago (11 children)

The only question is what are you personally gonna do about it? Yes, you, the person reading this. The government is out to fuck you. Dont act like this will blow over. This is just the beginning.

As a person reading this, the only thing I can think of is to vote. What happens afterwards will dictate any future course corrections.

[–] OddMinus1@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 days ago

I'm Norwegian.

I'll be loud about my opinion on socials, but it's not like I can vote or rally in the streets. So I'm doing what I can.

Chuck Schumer is already writing a stern letter!

Could you imagine the outrage if Biden had been doing any of this kind of stuff during the last election? It would have been civil war already.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 days ago

Biden didn't do any of it in 2021 and they engaged in INSURRECTION. Multiple people were killed.

"From Alaska to California"

So like.. Alaska & California.

Maybe Oregon and Washington if we are being generous.

[–] dermanus@lemmy.ca 10 points 3 days ago

I was thinking the same. "So, just the west coast?"

I've heard several reports that the Dems have been on top of this, and have outlined over 100 different schemes that MAGA might try, with solutions for all of them. So far, it's working.

We have to remember that MAGA always talks a good game, and Dems being basically decent people at heart, believe them. They still don't understand that MAGA is always lying, and they are ALWAYS bluffing.

In addition, the one thing that MAGA is remarkably consistent at is being VIRTUOSICALLY INCOMPETENT. Whatever they try, they will fuck it up, every single time. Take their gerrymander scam that was going to win the House for them. All they did was dilute previously solid red districts with blue voters. In a regular election, it might not be enough to worry about, but in a highly contested election like this one, it means some of those previously solid districts might flip. I'm looking forward to the autopsy on that one.

So remember that as they claim they will win, one way or another. The one thing we can count on, is that they'll always fuck it up.

He's a criminal in a corner about to face consequences. He can either accept the fate of his decisions like a responsible adult, or he can do the most unhinged illegal shit you can imagine to try to avoid them.

Which one do you think he'll do?

(Bonus option, escape to Argentina.)

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I don't believe in the existence of consequences when it comes to Trump

[–] aksdb@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

I think anyone who could cause him trouble would want to avoid any potential uproar from Trump fanatics and gamble on the problem solving itself due to his age. They just need to veeeery slowly investigate and hint at some prosecution to keep face.

[–] RunningInRVA@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

I never considered that he would be one of those people who ultimately flees the country. That would be pretty wild. I just assumed he would die before he can be held accountable.

His brain never reached the level of a 7 year old

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

He has even said himself that he's the same as when he was six

[–] im_fine_sandy@nord.pub 5 points 3 days ago (2 children)

You might be overstating things.

They might lose some seats but not enough to put Trump in trouble.

There are unfortunately plenty of turncoat democrats in both houses ready to prevent anything meaningful from happening even if Democrats win nominal control. Still better than nothing, though, so vote.

[–] normalentrance@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If Democrats take the house they can start numerous investigations that will make Trump's life hell. He has done many illegal things so the rest of his presidency will be in court. People that don't have presidential immunity will go to jail.

The alternative is escalating the war or a false flag sort of operation that gives him an opportunity to try to institute martial law. My money is on this.

We'll see probably in a few weeks how this is all going to play out. He has options due to his position, the risk he's put himself in and lack of morals

Rich people tend to control everything though so you might be correct.

[–] im_fine_sandy@nord.pub 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Sorry I just don't have any faith that the dems will do that or that courts will apply the law.

[–] normalentrance@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago

Totally fair. They are largely incompetent and/or in bed with aipac too. God help us. But I need some modicum of hope.

I voted for the first time ever because of this btw.

[–] ElChinchilla@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

For what it is worth, this internet stranger is legitimately proud of you. Better late than never.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 17 points 4 days ago (2 children)

If they had it rigged as badly as they want us to believe they do, they wouldn't be scrambling so hard at the 11th hour to rig it even harder.

STILL VOTE. Do not let them intimidate you. Do not let them discourage you. Vote!

Just wait until they lose.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 17 points 4 days ago

They won't wait...

I've been telling people to buy guns for years now. Everyone thinks we got till January 2029, if trump starts seeing early results of a tsunami, there's a very good chance he actually tries to shut polls down

Physically sending ICE in and preventing anyone from voting, then declaring that since people couldn't vote, it's only "fair" to redo the election "next year" and then just try to kick that can down the road until he's dead.

Especially if Netenyahu loses this election after preventing them for four years to maintain power.

trumps learning all the wrong lessons.

[–] ContactClosure@lemmus.org 5 points 3 days ago

Vought has already published his plan. On 1/3/27 when it's time to take the oath, many candidate elects will be deemed unfit to take the oath. Their seat will sit vacant. This will happen quietly behind closed doors, if people allow it. UNFTR has a video that lays it all out very well.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 4 points 3 days ago

He won't succeed, and I'm not worried about the Midterms.

I'm worried about he next two years. MAGAs can't allow the government to go to the Dems in 2028, or they are all going to prison, and for some, the consequences might even be worse.

So they can't leave in 2029, and they will have to do whatever it takes to crush any dissent, and cancel elections, forever. They are about to get extremely violent in as many ways as possible. They're going to put boots in Iran, and start drafting young Americans, starting with protesters and registered Democrats. They are going to fire on peaceful protests. They will start issuing extremely long prison sentences for minor, or even false offenses. They will start arresting journalists, especially independent, online journalists.

The American Citizens will be MAGAs biggest enemy. We are standing in the way of everything they want, and they will kill us all to get it. They MUST do this, in order to stay out of prison. Prepare yourselves.

[–] tigermountain@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

And let's not forget to thank the Democrats for helping the Republicans stay in power by doing the absolutely stupifying thing of trying to put another candidate on the ballot who has almost the same last name.

[–] BillionaireStew@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago

That Presiden't Ratfucker is working to ratfuck the midterms is a hopeful sign that he has not already ratfucked them.
