Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss
  3. GPrime85

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

Anyone else certain team Rabbit is in the foreground, with team duck the group further away?

[–] pineapplelover@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

I've been going back and forth and can't find the rabbit symbolism

[–] nibbler@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 6 hours ago

A true duck believer!!

Ears stick to the left, rabbit faces right.

This is unironically the case in the muslim world today. Different groups killing each other in the bloodiest ways over the most miniscule differences.

[–] Tempus_Fugit@lemmy.world 57 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

Yup, which is extremely similar to Christians and their "European wars of religion" that had them slaughtering each other for hundreds of years, and more recently "the Troubles" until 1998.

Jews aren't above it either, though their examples are more biblical and not nearly the same body count. The Samaritans and the schism that turned into Christianity come to mind.

[–] zeejoo@thelemmy.club 16 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

The troubles definitely had religious overtones and justifications, but it was a war about colonial control and cultural repression. You'd be hard pressed to find a British soldier who was fighting to defend protestantism instead of "the empire" or the queen, and you'd be hard pressed to find an IRA member who cared more about Catholic dominance in Ireland than independence.

The wars of religion basically used religion as a cudgel in a fight to dominate Europe and over tensions between the power centers of the Vatican and European royal courts. Entirely political but with religious marketing and pageantry.

Even the Sunni/Shia conflict, most Sunnis and Shias around the world have no issue with each other. Most of the time there's violence assigned to sectarianism, it's just like Ireland and Europe, that sectarian divide is inflamed by bad actors instigating artificial tensions and then using them to justify political and economic conquest. ISIS wanted to get rich by snapping up all the oil fields in a largely lawless region. Iran wants regional political dominance and economic control over the straight of hormuz. Israel wants to control the entire Middle East apparently. All of them have religious overtones to the conflict but the religion isn't the reason for the conflict.

The last real religious wars were the crusades. Europe stood to gain nothing but "God's favor" by taking back the holy land, it was nothing but a burden to repeatedly invade and fund intermittently occupying. Going back further, Muhammad's early Muslim conquests are another example of a true "religious war".

[–] HK65@sopuli.xyz 1 points 3 hours ago

Weren't the crusades also just a Papal project to reduce the intensity of European wars by dumping excess military capacity into colonising the Middle East?

[–] Gorilladrums@lemmy.world 3 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

I mean Hindus are also like this. The amount hatred and violence over being born into different casts is disgusting, though I'm not as familiar with it or other religions. I come from an islamic background

Caste isn't formally used in India anymore, was abolished a while ago. Could be a cultural thing but that will fade with time

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 14 points 17 hours ago

The Thirty Year War was quite a while ago but until fairly recently there was real animosity between Catholics and Protestants in Germany.

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago

Isn't it the crusades as well?

[–] hakunawazo@lemmy.world 22 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago) (3 children)

They need to update their banners.

[–] brsrklf@jlai.lu 2 points 2 hours ago

This take on it is especially weird to me because I initially saw the young face, but as soon as I saw the old one it became impossible to see the "ear" as anything but an eye.

I can still kinda see the young face but the ear doesn't compute anymore. it feels wrong.

[–] morto@piefed.social 11 points 15 hours ago

That one is creepy!

[–] AyuTsukasa@lemmy.zip 8 points 15 hours ago (4 children)

What else am I supposed to see besides a lady with a hat?

[–] sparky@lemmy.federate.cc 7 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Easier to show this way,

One view: young lady. We see her from the back, looking away from the β€œcamera”, her left ear towards us, wearing a necklace

Other view: old lady. Instead of the left ear, the same point served as the eye, the necklace instead serving as the mouth

[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

I know you're not responsible for this:

But what old lady wears a frill around their chin?

Conclusion: The young lady is real, the old lady is the illusion.

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 8 points 12 hours ago

Ear is eye, Chin is nose, Necklace is mouth

[–] villainy@lemmy.world 12 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

It's young lady with a hat facing away and an old lady with a hat facing to the side. Young lady's ear is old lady's eye, young lady's nose is a mole-like bump on old lady's nose, and so on. Never liked this one personally, the old lady is too much of a stretch for my brain to accept.

[–] Aralakh@lemmy.ca 2 points 11 hours ago

Yeah... I'm having a hard time making out the old lady

[–] Noodle07@lemmy.world 6 points 15 hours ago

An old lady with a hat

[–] username_1@discuss.tchncs.de 36 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

It took me ~10 seconds to figure out how those banners work. Nice.

[–] Rachelhazideas@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

What do you mean how they work? It's obviously the banners of the duck god and rabbit god.

All hail the mighty duck god! Death to the rabbit god infidels.

[–] aksdb@lemmy.world 5 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I still don’t get it. Look completely identical besides orientation. But both look like duck to me.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 14 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

The duck's bill becomes the rabbit's ears and then the rabbit is looking the other way (and you can't see its mouth)

[–] BlueOysterCultist@lemmy.zip 13 points 15 hours ago

Did you just compare my Duck to the heathens Rabbit? BLASPHEMER!

[–] aksdb@lemmy.world 6 points 16 hours ago

πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈnow I see it. Thank you!

[–] JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social 22 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

"Wait, wait... stop... STOP!"

"Now, who's carrying the DUCK banner, and who's carrying t'other?"

(insert Monty Python, please)

[–] marcos@lemmy.world 3 points 17 hours ago

The guy in the lower side of the image is the one talking.

[–] schipelblorp@sh.itjust.works 16 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

Fun fact: Allah means God.

[–] NeatNit@discuss.tchncs.de 37 points 18 hours ago (4 children)

More than that: Judaism, Christianity and Islam all believe in the same god and the same creation story (more or less). Not to mention, different denominations within each religion (e.g. Catholic, Protestant for Christianity). It seems these shared beliefs don't really contribute to any kind of peace.

[–] schipelblorp@sh.itjust.works 12 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago) (1 children)

I'm trying to get away from my radical atheist days, but monotheism specifically seems to definitively not play well with others.

[–] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 16 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

radical atheist

"hello, have you heard about our savior, 'just not being an asshole'?"

door slams

"obviously fucking not"

[–] NeatNit@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

If you don't think there is such a thing as radical atheism, you might be in a radically atheistic echo chamber. There absolutely is a way to take it too far. For example, thinking that all religions should be abolished forever.

Personally I am also an atheist bordering on radical :D

[–] Soggy@lemmy.world 4 points 16 hours ago

I'd rather educate religion away than oppress it, but I do think we'd be better off without any kind of supernatural belief. I know that's a radical, extreme position.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 5 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

It seems these shared beliefs don't really contribute to any kind of peace.

I mean, that's because very few conflicts are fought over religion on its own. It's usually part of a larger fight, at which point the larger fight will need to be resolved even if both sides believe in similar religions. Besides, since peace is the absence of conflict, it's always going to be impossible to tell if it contributing to some kind of peace because you can't know which conflicts aren't being fought. You can always have more ~~race~~ religion wars.

[–] schipelblorp@sh.itjust.works 4 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

I think you're ignoring the importance of religious identity as the definitive motivating factor in a lot conflict, but I agree that sometimes it plays a more minor role.

Christians and Jewish people that pray in Arabic also pray to Allah. Western Christians really don’t like that.

[–] sundray@lemmus.org 4 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Pfft, losers. Old Woman God is better than both of these!
